    How 'bout something completely random (like some of your posts)? Squeegee Slacks Easel Buffalo? Shenanigans Just, for the love of god, please don't name your dog, DeeOgee. I HATE when people use spellings as the name. Then again, we've never met, sooooo...disregard. Ooo, that's a good one, "Disregard! Stop humping her leg!"
  2. I think that Ozzie would rather have someone that can get on base and be able to BUNT than someone who can steal bases. Now, that's just me saying that. I also don't know how good of a bunter Erstad is. Also, we need to be consistent. And when I say "we" I mean us as fans. If we want someone who has the green light at all times, if we want aggressive grinders, then we want a 3rd base coach who will take a chance with AJ or Paulie. Now, I know there is a cut-off on when to send and when not to send, but how many throws from the outfield are rushed or airmailed or bounce 249 times? A good outfielder knows the situation and who's on base and takes their time...many outfielders just want to get the ball in. I have no problem with a 3rd base coach being aggressive...even if it might cost the game...as long as he's consistent!!! Love him or hate him, Joey was consistent.
  3. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) I also thought being on Soxtalk added to the excitement of the whole journey. Brown noser. That is true. But let me tell you something, when the snow started falling at halftime...and got harder as the second half went on, with bigger flakes (and I don't mean Saints fans) that gave me goose-bumps. And not because I was cold at the game. THAT is football weather, domers.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) All of that is accurate, but I see no way in hell why Hughes would go to ND. Hard to get exposure when you can't get on the field. And this goes beyond Illinois, Hughes had a lot of other BIG TIME programs that wanted him and could offer PT if he had went to them. Maybe it was about more than PT? Maybe he clicked better with Weis and the offensive coaching staff? Maybe he liked the campus? Obviously, it's about football first, but there are so many intangibles that can go into recruiting, there's no way to know why.
  5. WOW...this is hard. I don't think I can pick one...I mean, I'm more of a Chicago fan (minus the Cubs) so whoever is doing well, that's the big thing in my life. I was 14 when the Bears won Super Bowl XX and it had been sooooo long since the city of Chicago won, well, anything of meaning (and yes, I'm including the '83 Sox and the '84 Cubs) that the town went absolutely crazy over the Shufflin' Crew. BUT, Chicago is a huuuuuge baseball town and the fact that the White Sox, of all teams, won the WS, that was incredibly special. Nope, I can't pick one over the other. I'm just a Chicago fan and every championship is special.
  6. Anyone on this board except for a couple of you think that maybe...JUST MAYBE...he RE-injured it? Every player has an exit exam...could it be POSSIBLE that the Sox doctors said, "Pods, your groin looks like it still hurts a bit. Try to stretch and do some physical therapy and ease back into your routine. If something happens, tell us and we'll fix it through surgery." "Thanks Doc, I'll do that." Cut to a couple of weeks ago. "Ouch. I think I RE-injured my groin. I should have surgery to fix this problem now, before I do anymore damage to it." Why do so many people think it's the magic bullet? That players hide problems ALL the time? The Sox had probably the last medical report on Pods, and if that's the case, and Pods HAD the problem and they re-signed him anyway, then who's fault is it? If he WAS fine, and Pods re-injured himself...well, hamburgers happens and he's fixing it. So cut the guy some slack, the Sox brought in a free agent outfielder and Sweeney needs another year in AAA.
  7. Hmmm...added veteran depth to a team that has a bunch of youngsters that could probably use one more year of seasoning in AAA. I think I'll take it. If he's healthy, he's better than Pods in LF defensively and could be used as a defensive replacement. Either way, I like it.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) The guy is a nobody. He's been a reliever his entire career in the minors and hasn't been too good at that. Albeit, he has a decent fastball, he has pretty much nothing else and will be 29 a month or so into the season (with a career 6.94 ERA in 48 major league appearances and most of those appearances were before he got injured and underwent surgery). Its simply AAA fodder. Not to be a jerk, but you know this...how? I mean, isn't it possible that he could find something? Wasn't Brendan Donnelly a late bloomer?
  9. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 12:21 PM) Will Ferrell = comedy of course, two other equations come to mind as well. midgets = comedy tragedy + time = comedy You forgot one.. Monkeys = comedy.
  10. It's very easy to not root for the Saints. The Bears represent everything that is good with Chicago. Does the awfulness that was Katrina make a 40 year old team trump a team with more history and tradition? I guess it does. I really hope Papa Bear is rolling over in his grave and talking to God to make it sleet on the visitor's side of the field only. The Saints are a great story...worst-to-first is a great story no matter what. Add in Katrina and you get the emotional factor. But keep discounting the Bears, people...and they will bite you on the ass.... PLAY ANGRY!!!

    QUOTE(shoota @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) My boss told me a story about his youth, how drinking 3-5 raw eggs a day for 5 days will give you a huge load. So I thought I'd surprise the girlfriend this weekend. Ummmmmm..........ew.
  12. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 08:20 AM) McCarthy was ranked higher: Danks - 59th in 2006 and 2005 McCarthy - 49th in 2005 I would imagine age and experience factors into these rankings.
  13. Toe pick. Mmmm...Moira Kelly.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 15, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) But I am in no way saying there is no way he would leave Illinois, I never implied it either. I was simply starting his reasons for staying as the reasons for going to Minnesota are quite obvious. From the Sun-Times today (and from the horses mouth):
  15. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jan 18, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) I thought he was being retired anyway, but let the controversy continue: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Indian givers.
  16. Until the season is in full swing, no one knows what's going to happen. Can we end this thread now?
  17. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jan 17, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) You must be incredibly incapable of either reading correctly or understanding elementary logic. Let me break it down for you. 1) all five pitchers had at least 300 total inning pitches at the major league level in 2005 2) the fifth starter will have hardly any experience pitching at the major league level in 2007 maybe you can now see how those clauses are related. I think the Cubs might have a seat for you in the upper deck. /not really green Seriously, are you saying that there is no way that ANY of the 5th starters are going to be good? Not even a chance? I hate to sound like I'm on Law and Order, but there's chance in everything, isn't there? Anything can happen, including a 5th starter that will step up and pitch like the wind. So, I think you writing off this season before February is pretty ridiculous. Not to mention that people were picking the Indians to mount a hell of a rally last year and they did...nothing. Nobody picked the Tigers and look what they did.
  18. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jan 16, 2007 -> 02:21 PM) I am surprised at some of the negative comments. Joe Crede is an all-star and gold glove caliber thirdbaseman and was developed in the Sox system. Bad back or not Joe is one of the top thirdbasemen in baseball and continues to improve every year. He didn't sign cheap in this deal and my guess is this is setting the table for more talks on a long term deal. I hope we keep Joe and use Josh Fields in LF and/or the backup 3Bman. Let's value our own players more and appreciate them more is what I would like to see. Fields, if brought up, is also a White Sox prospect. Joe has health issues and the Sox need to worry about it. The Sox are in the catbird seat here. They can see how Joe reacts to therapy and try to resign to a long term deal or they can let him go or trade him and bring up a highly rated prospect. I'm not worried at all. Either way, we are going to cme out on top. /stops drinking black kool-aid
  19. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jan 15, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) My question to you is then ... if these players like Dye, Crede, Mark are not good enough to sign, why will other teams be lining up to sign them on their terms? If fiscal responsibility means getting rid of all the cogs of a world championship team and offending its fanbase in the process for what will certainly be downgrades at many positions, so be it. To you who blast me and others for bagging on Jerry for not spending money to keep our heroes ... who do you envision being our next Buehrle, our next Dye, our next Crede, our next Freddie, our next Contreras? You are counting on these guys Kenny is stockpiling to pan out and likely downgrades with Dye and Crede. and my position isn't as absurd as some of you make it out to be. My position is the one I've read by Couch and Morrissey in the Trib and Sun Times others are baffled as well. It's not like I am some complete moron who has watched no baseball in his lifetime. I've followed this team and baseball like the rest of you. And Tony if you hate my posts you must detest reading Couch and Morrissey, et all because what they have written is not much different than what I'm saying. I'll tell you why other teams will be lining up to sign them...because they have inferior talent and no one they can trust to take that place. GMs overpay for need. Fields may not be as good as Crede, or Sweeney as Dye or any of the signed pitchers as Buehrle, but they have to try. Are we supposed to keep them until they want to retire? Just because they helped us win a championship? And not only that, KW used a lot of the prospects to get major league players, almost to the point of not having any good prospects. Now we do again. So, who knows, maybe none of these players will ever play for the Sox, maybe they WILL be used to get other major league players. Also, what if we sign these players to market contracts and they all get injured? Now what? How's about this...when you or Cali become GMs, do whatever you want. Until then, deal with it. Root for the team they put on the field, or find another one. And by the way, John Schuerholtz is considered to be one of the best GMs in the game...you know how many WS he's been to? He's been to five NLCS and won only once. Does that make him better or worse?
  20. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 15, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) I'd rather have Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister. I'd also rather have Maroney and Dillon. ...Atleast until Benson doesn't get the PT he deserves. I would want Bush and McAllister too, if we played on FieldTurf in a dome. No way I would want Maroney and Dillon. Maroney maybe, but I'll take TJ over Corey Dillon at this stage of his career. If it's windy and cold, then the Saints are in trouble. It'll still be close, but the Bears will run it down their throats.
  21. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 14, 2007 -> 10:28 AM) I guess I'm too old fashioned. I long for the days that being a baseball fan meant you discussed baseball and not contracts. Why is it always the White Sox , no matter who the owner, who become the gods of fiscal responsibility ? If ever there was a time for the White Sox to NOT bring up the inflated market its now. If we can't splurge a little after having won a world series , with attendance and merchandising being at all time highs, will we be ever be able to consistently play with the big boys ? If Sox history has taught us anything its that you don't win with cheap owners. 2007 might be the last year the Sox will be in contention for a while so enjoy it while you can. White Sox aren't cheap...they are being fiscally responsible. That's a HUGE difference. Cheap would be going out and getting scrap heap players who just want to play. Fiscally responsible means realizing it's not worth hamstringing your team for years for one player. Or, buying the Ozzie package instad of the full season package. You still get to see games, and this way you still can afford groceries.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) The way I have taken things, I don't think the Sox are that blown away by the $$$ that is being given out this off-season. It's the years. I don't think the Sox have any problem giving out a big money deal, but they don't want it over 5 or 6 years, and I don't blame them. Dave Roberts is 34, and coming off his best season. Did you really want him for 3 more years? I don't blame the Sox for not wanting Roberts when he is 37. I alsp don't really want to be paying 8.5 million in 2011 to Juan Pierre, do you? The Sox are trying to be as financially responsible as possible, and sometimes that can look bad. I think you are absolutely right...it's the years. Great post. On a different note, I wonder if these skyrocketing prices are going to force the Commissioner's office and MLBPA to really discuss a salary cap. do we really think that KC or Pitt or Tampa Bay are going to be able to keep up? Maybe they can do something like the NBA with the Bird Exception. I don't know, but this is getting absolutely ridiculous...and I'm not a big fan of any salary caps.
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) *insert ominous background music* I think it's probably for flexibility's sake...juuuuuussssst in case something comes up.
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) If you saw how much Schoenweiss made this offseason, spending money is not always a recipe for success. NO KIDDING...what a joke.
  25. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) Chris Widger, Sandy Alomar Jr., Todd Pratt, Mike DiFelice, Todd Greene, Miguel Perez (Reds non-tender), Jose A. Reyes (Cubs non-tender). Will any of these guys be playing at Charlotte next year? I would imagine Widge, Alomar, Pratt and Greene would retire before they went back to the minors. But I could be wrong.
