  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) I'd believe it Yeah, in between using southsider's + Yas' + Steff's post totals for the Lotto and laying bets on which Mariotti article is going to get flamed next, I'm sure scouts are checking this board to know what to do.
  2. Are the Illini done? What about Miles Stroter? Anyone else on the ESPN list a possibility?
  3. And we know Kenny didn't try to...how? Anyone think that Kenny made some phone calls and was either rebuffed or the other team wanted something ridiculous that, in the long run, would have hurt the White Sox more? Kenny is one of the most aggressive GMs out there, he isn't afraid to take chances and he stands up to the criticism (sometimes not as well as other times, but he shows his face). Pods is a bargain considering the Sox didn't want to be stuck with Matthews or Pierre for 5 years. I'd give the off-season a solid B. They didn't do much to upgrade, besides the bullpen, but faith in your current players isn't a bad thing, is it?
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 07:34 PM) Durant is 6'10. Why is there need for him to get taller? He's never been a C prospect and never will be. He just needs to gain weight like he did the summer between high school and getting to Texas. I like Durant better. He's a T-Mac/Dirk all in one. I've been hyping him up since high school. Oden is a beast as well. You really couldn't go wrong either way. I don't think there's a NEED for him to get taller. But, I think nature will MAKE him taller. Usually, men grow until they are in their early 20's while women stop around the end of high school. Maybe he's done, and he's certainly not going to have a spurt, but look at all the SF/PF in the league that are 7' now. More size won't hurt him. And if you look at his upper body, he should gain at least 20 lbs. of muscle...just by training in the NBA.
  5. Everyone for Illinois has signed except for Darius Purcell. They also signed 2-star RB Derius Hodge out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Chose Illinois over MSU, ND, Penn State and Tennessee, so says Scout.com.
  6. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) never ever ever ever Good, who needs ya!
  7. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) That's not really true at all, Gasol and Durant are significantly different players. One is primarily a perimeter player, the other is a post player. Plus assuming growth spurts and massive weight gains isn't really a good argument. He'd need to significantly bulk up to play PF in the pros, and he'd still be better suited to play outside. He could be decent inside, but he's already damn good outside. His post game is really more of an individual matchup type thing. We're basically talking about a Tracy McGrady clone here... I'm not assuming a growth spurt...he's 18 and will grow another inch or two. Plus, he will fill out...not a massive weight gain. If he could get some meat on those arms, and he will with a NBA trainer, I could see him as an inside/outside threat.
  8. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) I disagree on the Bulls part, Oden is EXACTLY what they need. His inside presence makes them significantly more dangerous, and makes their defense ridiculously good. They're already loaded in the forward department with Deng, Noc, and Tyrus. While Durant can potentially be better than those 3, that just wouldn't make much sense to me. He's going to grow another inch or two and he SHOULD be better than Gasol, who the Bulls may trade for. Durant, when he gains some more weight, will be greater than Oden. As was said before, Oden will be limited to the inside. Durant will be able to do both. Gordon, Hinrich, Deng, Durant and Wallace would be wonderful.
  9. If Illinois can consistently be 8-4, 8-5 with mid-size bowl games, that'll add a couple years onto Zook's contract. If Illinois can then compete for the Capital One Bowl, that'll make Zook a savior. Illinois has a lot of football history. Grange, Butkus, Grabowski, Nitschke, Rice, Howard, one of the first schools with homecoming, Dad's Day, certain band things... I know winning trumps all, but if they can start winning and Zook is not using reviving Illinois as a jumping off point, I think the Illini can at least get to the level of Wisconsin and Iowa.... Probably not Michigan or Ohio State, but they might sneak a Big Ten championship here and there. But first things first...Alamo, Sun, one of those bowls would be FANTASTIC!!!
  10. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) People who believe in marriage equality are fighting fire with fire, finally. Using the initative process to their advantage to take away nonsensical arguments against same sex marriage. A Proposed Washington State initiative would require married couples to have a baby within three years or their marriage would no longer be considered valid. And state ballot initiative leader and gay prostitute using pastor Ted Haggard has now become "completely heterosexual." Wow... and Wow...
  11. After watching Durant last night against A&M...wow. But, his defense, besides shot blocking, is atrocious. I think, depending on need, Oden. But, if I'm the Bulls or Pistons or a team that relies on defense. I might take a flier on Durant.
  12. [shiver] Congrats to the Colts. [/shiver] Kudos to the Colts and Dungy and Manning and the rest. Yes, the Bears blew it, but now, they know how to get there. Now let's get back out there in July and run rampant through the 2007 season. We'll see you in Glendale!
  13. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 6, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) I really respect and like your posts so I hope that you dont take any ill-will from this. Is that some sort of Illinois crack? [thread] Hey...did everyone know signing day is tomorrow?
  14. Bottom line: Clint Brewster said his commitment to Illinois was solid. People on Soxtalk took him at his word. Soxbadger said, don't believe the hype. Brewster decommitted. Done and done.
  15. Going to a fellow Bears fan's house. He "imported" some Old Style...I'm getting some Italian Beefs...and I am going to wear the same thing I did for the Seahawks and the Saints, blue long sleeve shirt from Old Navy and my Orange "Da Bears" t-shirt. If I have to, I'll go into another room to watch, but I do want to be around people for hi-fives and hugs.
  16. What if I post after 10:30 pm? Is that ok?

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 07:25 AM) I like this idea. Set your computer to this site and leave for the day. I love it...you should set it to A440 and grab your keyboard and mouse, then put a sign on your CPU saying, "Defragging the hard drive. Please don't touch."
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 01:07 AM) I'll have my Mannelly jersey by Thursday, I don't think I've ever been this excited over a jersey.. After it arrives I'll be but a Gould jersey away from completing the trifecta of excellence in the field of field goal kicking. You gotta have Maynard too! Complete the special teams, my man. They will feel the power of Kalapse!!! And I don't know about the best ever...cuz, well, I don't know of any others off the bat. But, he's been awesome as a Bear and is probably the best Bear long snapper ever. Any chance he makes it to the Hall of Fame?
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 30, 2007 -> 08:35 AM) Eh, you have a point, but there are a lot of guys who have 1 and than never again. And I'm looking at players who actually have the talent to produce big seasons at the mlb level not the guys who project to be backups(Timo Perez etc.) And usually if a guy has the talent and is given time to succeed at a mlb level he will atleast produce one solid season. In Crede's case he was given 3 1/2 seasons or so before he produced any results. Hell, you can look at last season and look at Gary Mathews jr... it took him about 6 but than he produced a very good season. Or than there is Corey Patterson he had a very solid season that was shortened by injury but than what has he done since than, or Matt Lawton who has been in the league for how many years and really has only produced one great season. Or how about Orlando Cabrera, besides 03 he hasnt really been a productive hitter The key here is im looking at guys who have the talent to be very good and because of that talent are given long lengths of time to show it and if given enough seasons that will usually result in atleast 1 really good season aka the career year. Don't let Anthrax Fan hear you say that...
  21. I dont' know if anyone has said this yet, but I think it's important to any organization to keep the players that were groomed within. He's the only one of the main players besides Anderson, who hasn't done much yet and Crede. Just thinking KW might pull out more stops.

  23. So the hell is Morrissey questionable? I believe he came out saying he is an abstinent homosexual. Can't get any more questionable than that. Whew. This guys a bit of an idiot. And it seems...a "reformed" homosexual.
  24. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) five career big-league innings for Perkins. They ccmpare him to Glendon Rusch. I gotta believe Terry Ryan will find a bargain basement free agent project during spring training. He'll come with a better arm from the farm system in mid-summer. Didn't realize Nathan was a free agent after this year. THAT is very good news. Maybe Terry Mulholland is available?
  25. QUOTE(Jeff Liefer @ Jan 27, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) Great article. I agree with Gammons on the Cooper factor. It's clearly not luck that these unproven players have their breakout years with us. I'm excited about this power bullpen. I also think Floyd could shock the world with an above average season next year. Hell it took Garland awhile to get it right after being a top draft pick. Come to the White Sox, good things happen. It's the change of scenery factor. He was expected to be a number 1 starter in Philly...which as we all know, isn't the most forgiving city, hell they booed Santa. Here, he's expected to contribute. 5th starter, bullpen, whatever...just contribute. I believe he will excel here. And btw, excellent article, thanks for posting.
