I bet they just called him to be with the club in case.

Does anybody think The Plan is to be this left-handed in 2014?

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 11:33 PM) The high pitch count is a result of being a strike-out pitcher and he walks too many batters. But experience might fix that and then we have a stud. He's got a high ceiling I think. He doesn't through insanely hard, but a lot of K pitchers don't. For sure but it is the defense too. It has been awful for him, capped by the four error game a couple starts ago. That will jump anyone's pitch count -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 11:29 PM) Quintana is your comp. But if we dangle Santiago, all conversatione sabre-metric teams will be over him, trying to get him at a discount (and that the Sox undervalue him worries me). That's why Oakland was on Peavy I think...they dig deeper than ERA. His ERA is great though. I'm not sure why the Sox under value him but it does seem that way. And not that it matters to this conversation but he seems like one of the nicest athletes you'll ever come across. Hope he stays around -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) Return not contingent on how much Crain pitches. This is bizarre. I would say that probably crushes any hopes of it being notable.

Hector Santiago in his first 18 career starts: 5-4, 2.94 ERA, 10.2 SO/9, 1.22 WHIP I'd have to imagine you are talking about a top 25 prospect combined with another top 50 type and then more around that package to even think about trading him. He should improve more than anyone with better defense, even if he strikes a lot of guys out. That is because his biggest problem right now is pitch count. It will also help when we actually groom him as a starter. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 11:03 PM) If anyone needs to be sold low it's Danks. Save payroll, get younger. . Fixed. Of course that stock is so low right now that you can't even sell him but I will keep mentioning it until we try. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) Obviously we have no idea what has been offered, what reports are true, etc. but if the sticking point on a Peavy trade is the Sox not picking up some of his salary they are being incredibly short sighted by not doing a deal. Meh. For this year maybe but zero reason they should include any more money than that. -

#WhiteSox’s desire to get quality return AND have trade partner assume nearly $24M left on Peavy’s contract remains significant obstacle. -

Ken Rosenthal@Ken_Rosenthal #Athletics off Peavy, moving onto other pursuits - bullpen, middle IFer. Will dangle some of players they would have traded for Peavy White Sox may be indeed keeping him, but you know, who knows. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 10:25 PM) If Hahn doesn't get a package of players he thinks is worth it, he is a good player to build a staff around. I think it's a ploy to up the bidding. But if not he can still trade Q, Santiago or Peavy over the winter. Or someone miraculously claims Danks and we dump him /prayer -

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) The White Sox are telling other teams they're going to keep Peavy and build around him. -- OLNEY NO f***ING WAY. LOUD NOISES!!! -
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 10:17 PM) Nick Cafardo @nickcafardo 38s Rays may have scooped Red Sox out of Jesse Crain. Expand So they did indeed have multiple bidders. Maybe the package won't be completely terrible. I wonder if the PTBNL list is tiered. IE he throws ten innings, you can pick from this. Throws twenty, pick from this.
-
The Sox must make a trade just to make a trade.
-
I feel like PTBNL leaks don't leak too often but that's seemingly because they are the last part of a trade and no one seems to care too much. Wouldn't be surprised to see a leaked list here.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) It is 80% satisfaction to return to previous level. It's higher just to return to pitching. 80% is high for any type of "replacement" surgery is regards to return to previous level of activity. sports medicine while making great leaps in recent years is still not an exact science. There are still things that cannot be done. For example, replacing a posterior cruciate ligament. Many people return froma torn ACL but tear a PCL and you turn out like Urlacher and need to retire. Thanks. That makes a lot more sense. Though going through the names of recent Tommy John plaers, I'm still not too encouraged -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) Not saying I'm opposed to getting Bundy, but let's be clear about something... the 80% (or whatever number) "success rate" is not some on or off thing. That means 80% come back and are able to pitch. it does NOT mean there is an 80% chance they can pitch just as well. There is a whole range of possible outcomes, and there is no way it is that 80% of pitchers come back with the same level velocity, movement, control, etc. across the board. TJ is still a risk. Yeah that. I'm lost as to why people are promoting 80 percent success rate as a good thing. That seems awfully low for a non life threatening surgery. Oh and then he still has to be as good as he was and make up for key developmental time lost -

Trading for a minor leaguer going through TJ is terrible idea. -
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 07:31 PM) Yep... Hahn has a chance to add a few top prospects, shed salary, and get a top 3 pick in draft next summer. I really hope he doesn't squander this opportunity. The last thing I want to hear after the dead line is "we didn't like the packages offered to us for peavy and rios and we feel comfortable with them moving forward to 2014" That will not be acceptable , Rick. This team stinks and we need to move in a different direction. It is perfectly acceptable for that or else we won't get value for them. You don't make a trade to make a trade.
-
Here's mine Jake Peavy: Not traded Alex Rios: Not traded Alexei Ramirez: Not traded Jesse Crain: Moved to Tampa for a package that is near impossible to speculate on Matt Lindstrom: Moved to Boston for a low level starting pitcher with a live arm and is otherwise completely terrible. Other: Nothing else of note other than the fun of watching Soxtalk cry.

Peavy is on the front page of ESPN with a article tie in mentioning his suitors. -

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 06:19 PM) Someone on the forum mentioned T Beckham earlier. Yeah that's what I meant. He's the Rays version of Mitchell. First round pick who is no longer a top twenty guy in their system. Though he is still better than Mitchell.
