  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 12:10 AM) Don't expect Pods to reproduce the same results he put up this year. Barring injury, there's no reason to think this. His hitting approach is completely different now than what it was. But there is no place to put him if we don't want him to play CF.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 2, 2009 -> 12:00 AM) I think it would be an awful idea to have Ramirez play CF. I don't. It's his natural position. Not to mention he can't be any worse than he is at SS/2B, or what we've been throwing out in CF in recent years (minus BA). Not that the organization will even consider it...
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 06:01 AM) ??? That doesn't appear to be the consensus of this board right now. With a couple of exceptions I think most posters acknowledge that we gave up some decent prospects, but we used said prospects to get an ace who is better than any of those players will be. Nobody's been bashing the weakness of the farm system this year because it isn't weak, and the only top prospect we gave up is Poreda. We still have Danks, Viciedo, Hudson, and Flowers. I don't see what you're getting at. I don't think he's going after the board here. Our board thinks more highly of our system than most everyone else. But looking around other teams boards, it's exactly he basically said what they're all saying.
  4. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 01:55 AM) What I don't like is that Kenny consistently overpays in these trades. We traded Swisher and Vaz and got table scraps. maddening to me. We just got a legitimate ace under our control until 2014 without giving up any of our top prospects.
  5. QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) It also makes me wonder why SD was willing to take what I think is a weak deal twice. One reason: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ We are one of the few teams in position to add such a contract.
  6. http://www.motownsports.com/forums/detroit...-peavy-sox.html Tigers thoughts. Some gems in there: "Oh crap. " "Once he is healthy, they probably have a comparable rotation to the Tigers." But mostly level-headedness surprisingly.
  7. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) This is a move that IMO is FANTASTIC for 2010 and beyond!! Forget short term, we have bigger issues with this team than just starting pitching. Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Peavy....uh yeah, sign me up. If we somehow scrape out a division title this year, we could still be World Series contenders as funny as it is.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) healthy player vs injured player White Sox versus Red Sox would be the proper answer.
  9. The Garciaparra deal to the Cubs was definitely submitted after too (despite what MLB says), so who knows if MLB actually cares.
  10. I like how the Red Sox getting Martinez is bigger than us getting Peavy according to ESPN.
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) So, will Torres take the 5th spot while Colon is on the DL? I would guess they'll give Garcia a look too.
  12. QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) It seems we made all of our moves b4 the deadline - Kotsay, Castro, Pena. Maybe we can pull something off in the final minutes. Count was about as last minute as it got.
  13. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) Wouldn't that be the second year in a row with a sub-par team that no trades were made?
  14. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) bureau was not banned by soxtalk, he has just stopped posting. His account was deleted, as were his posts.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) Everyone thinks they can win before the season starts. There are far fewer desperate teams in January than in July... He's still in the very least can get a Sabathia type package (and that was into the year). Is it less than now? Yes, but it's still nice to have..
  16. QUOTE (3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) I don't think Ricciardi is that screwed. If he doesn't get what he wants he can always make a move in the offseason Yep. Believe it or not, Halladay's value is not going to fall very much for a desperate team.
  17. I doubt Garland is better than any of our 5 starters at this point.
  18. Olney also says VMart is looking likely to the Red Sox with a 3rd team involved. No word on who that is.
  19. OCab to the Twins? Looking like it according to Olney.
  20. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 05:31 AM) that the Twins want to utilize the Dome for select discounted "Throwback" series in 2010 and perhaps beyond. Hmmm, wonder who they would select for that one.
