God I'm gonna hate hearing "at least we won the series" excuse if we lose today. This has the makings of a pathetic loss.

He was signed to a minor league contract, no? Often there was team options on the end of those handed out to veterans, but since we have yet to hear about it, I doubt he has one. Either way I expect to see Pods back.

Beckham is not going to go bad because Jeff Francouer. I hate this line of thinking in sports, but especially in baseball.

Manny and Big Papi tested positive for steroids in 03
Buehrle>Wood replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Diamond Club
Curt Schilling on Jose Canseco:: "Jose Canseco admitted he cheated his entire career," Schilling said. "Everything he ever did should be wiped clean. I think his MVP should go back and should go to the runner-up." Curt Schilling on Roger Clemens:: "So as a fan my thought is that Roger will find a way in short order to organize a legal team to guarantee a retraction of the allegations made, a public apology is made, and his name is completely cleared," Schilling wrote. "If he doesn't do that then there aren't many options as a fan for me other than to believe his career 192 wins and 3 Cy Youngs he won prior to 1997 were the end. From that point on the numbers were attained through using [performance-enhancing drugs]. Just like I stated about Jose [Canseco], if that is the case with Roger, the 4 Cy Youngs should go to the rightful winners and the numbers should go away if he cannot refute the accusations." (Source) Curt Schilling on Rafael Palmeiro: “The year he tested positive, nothing he did that year should count, which I think would take away 3,000 hits for him.” (Source) Curt Schilling on Barry Bonds:: "If you get caught using steroids, you should have everything you've done in this game wiped out for any period of time that you used it," Schilling said. "A lot of players, I think, have said as much because it is cheating." (Source) And now moving on to Ortiz and the Red Sox... Curt Schilling on whether David Ortiz's accomplishments should be judged differently: That’s for you to decide. It seems to be an area of immense debate, but I am not sure how this could/should/will be resolved. (Source) Curt Schilling on whether Boston's accomplishments should be judged differently: This makes me laugh. I have already seen the bandwagon fans start the *04 and *07 threads and remarks, people with teams who are far deeper into this than most other teams — as if this makes it all OK. Every team going back 10-15 years needs an * if you want to consider giving it to anyone. -

I remember Dye's epic walk-off vs. them. Stadium has almost never been louder after that bomb. Let's see something like it again.

Time for our first walk-off HR of the year.

QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 03:35 AM) As long as there's a commercial... BTW, what do I gotta do to get rid of the "hafta" by my sig? I mean, really... Ha, I remember that post.

QUOTE (SockMe @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) haha, nice. He's also officially a Hall of Famer, coming in with a record 105% of the vote: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_membe...ll_Hall_of_Fame

I put Beckham's name down for RotY. Figure it's a given http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_...80.93present.29

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 03:18 AM) it reminds me of those great teams that keep punishing you and bringing your pitch count up in long five-batter sequences. Yet you want Thome out of there. I'm sorry, but I am completely lost at this thread.

Maybe our team should run a ball out for once.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 02:10 AM) But note in the post, I'm worried not about avg itself...but about what a declining average implies Less able to wave that wand the way he used to. If you're hitting in the 3-4-5, youve still got your situations that you have to make contact in. ... But his average is up this year from last, not on a decline. He's a 4 hitter because he's a lefty complement with lots of power and gets on base at a high rate. So who do you want there? Quentin? Another righty who has hit about .200 since coming back?
-
Who cares? We don't expect him to hit for average and if you are, then you're doing it wrong. Not to mention his average was .284 in July and overall it's 8 points since last year.
