QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 01:13 AM) Can we please end the Nix=good defense myth. He has been HORRIBLE the week he has been starting. What is that 5 errors now? He WAS plenty great at 2B. I don't know what that first play was. -

Where is the real Jayson Nix and what have you done with his defense. -
Does Kenny have his eye on Wagner?

I just wanted to say that I would fully endorse this move. -
Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) It doesn't matter how many teams claimed. Only the team who is at the top of the priority list can negotiate with the Jays. If they don't reach a deal, Rios can't go anywhere (assuming the Jays do pull Rios off of waivers) Yes, but given that there are 5 teams interested in him, Retardi can always just wait until the offseason and see what his value is again. The question he has to ask of course is if interested now, why weren't they last week? I think we're all praying for a salary dump here. -

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) not sure how reliable but: Alex Rios on his way out of TO? 5 teams have made waiver claims for Rios giving the Jays a perfect chance to get 65million off the books http://twitter.com/GlennSchiiler Bad news if true. Retardi would probably open up trade talks then. -

Assuming Thome is gone, we're going to need some sort of other lefty in the line-up next year. -

QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) Where would Rios play? RF = Quentin, CF = Pods, RF = Dye It's not the Whitesox. This would not be a move for this year. Besides, even if it were, the guys and Thome are getting plenty of rest for Rios to play nearly everyday. -

QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) Will Carrol is reporting on twitter that there is a lot of speculation that the White Sox are the team that claimed Rios. Manny Ramirez to the Marlins and Johan Santana to the Red Sox. Never trust Will Carroll. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) The thing that makes this one interesting is...you could actually see the Blue Jays just letting him go. Yep...and they should IMO. -

QUOTE (BFirebird @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) I saw on mlbtraderumors comments that the order is in reverse of the league the player is in, then the other league. Is this true? I thought it was just reverse record regardless of league. They have it right. Gammons had a good article on the waiver wire a few years back on how everyone is put through it. For example I believe we put Konerko and Buehrle through in 2004 for pretty much no reason at all. -
Mike Williams was an all-star closer and at the time of the break he had a 6.44 ERA.

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) So when will we find out who made the claim? I would actually be pretty excited if we claimed him. Could take up to 3 days I believe. -

QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) I'd be shocked if Kenny was able to take on Rios and his contract after acquiring Peavy. Don't we have like 30 million coming off the books? Not to mention we are likely in a position to add to this year's 90 million dollar payroll anyways. We could easily afford him, I just think the money is better spent elsewhere. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Dominique Ferguson to FIU to play for Isaiah Thomas. What a great way to ruin a career. It was his only move after his reputation was reaching the likes of Born Ready's. Cal didn't even want to touch him. I liked the part where he credited Isiah Thomas for developing players in the NBA. Uh, what? -

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) If the Blue Jays are gonna give him away, the White Sox should trade for him for this playoff run and trade him in the offseason, to the Giants maybe, for a better package then what we would give up for him in the first place. He's pretty much untradeable though. At least I thought that until today. -
QUOTE (Fedor @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) Sox have Quentin as the future LF (his arm is no longer RF quality). ???? It's probably better than Dye's, not that that is saying much.
-
How exactly does Viciedo's contract work? Is he a free agent after 4 years as this suggests? I've seen some say we have him under control afterwords too. If he is a free agent after 4 years, that's a pretty bad contract we gave him.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 06:20 PM) Then why would the Mets eat his entire salary? Because they're 11 out and he's of no use to them. They mind as get something for him. The problem would be the buyout, which I wouldn't see us paying so you'd have get them to chip in on that too. -
You make too many threads. The answer is no, we couldn't.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:38 PM) Assuming a loss today, since the beginning of 2006, the White Sox have a 307-290 record (.514 WPCT) Over the same time frame, in 3 (and 4) games series in which they've won the first 2 (or 3) games, their record going for the sweep is 22-33 (.400 WPCT) Might want to consider changing the f***ing strategy, Ozzie. That's pathetic.

QUOTE (aprec32 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) I agree 100%............but this is the 7th series where we have had the opportunity to sweep a team going into the last game of the series and have failed. Having swept only 2 series this year and seeing missed opportunities is just gutwrenching. Yep. It goes without saying that this division is likely to go down to the wire. Right now we're looking to be 2 back with a ten game road trip to NYY/Boston/Minny looming large at the end of the month. Luckily for us, Detroit's schedule is not much easier. That said, if we do lose in the end, you can look back at the losses against the likes of Ervin Santana and see why. We can't afford to have throw away games now; we aren't that good of a team.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) If this exact game happened yesterday, and the Sox won 6-2 today, everyone is happy. A little perspective. Uh, no. No one is happy when ended up packing it in against Ervin Sanatana. It's a bad loss no matter the spin attempt.
