And if you are buying Mario Galaxy, go to Toys R Us today. They give you a 25$ gift certificate along with a collector's coin.

Mario Galaxy does have a 97.4 on Gamerankings(http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages4/915692.asp), which would make it the 2nd best game ever behind Zelda 64.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops I think. Although I thought that game came out awhile ago, maybe another one then. Mario Galaxy isn't in there.

How does IU, a damned good defensive team last year, give up 50 points at home in one half to Chatanooga, a team that ranked 251 in offensive efficiency last year? -

The NIT is screaming for a big-time upset. I just haven't decided wether it will be 'Cuse against Siena/SJU or OSU against W-GB/Delaware State. Maybe even Utah over Washington. I must say though that I actually like how the NIT challenges it's hosts to make it out of their regional unlike all other preseason tournaments. -

Illinois' basketball fans travel as well as anyone out there. I'm guessing the same would be the case for the football team, basketball school or not. -
Mario Galaxy tomorrow! Some are saying it's the best 3D platformer ever, including Super Mario 64 in that discussion.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) With the exception of the Rose bowl. you're position in the Big ten matters not as much as how much of a TV and, more importantly, ticket draw you can be. A bowl can pick any bowl eligible team within one win of the top remaining team. For instance: If Michigan wins on Saturday, ILL will fall quickly... No matter what they do against NW. A 9-win Mich gets the rose bowl. a 10 win OSU will be chosen for the Cap One bowl. Leaving the other 3 8-3 teams (potentially 9-3 teams) to fight it out for the lone remaining Jan 1 bowl. Rose: Mich Cap One: OSU Outback: PSU/Wisky/ILL Alamo: PSU/Wisky/ILL Champs: ILL It comes down to $$. PSU and Wisconsin can guarantee fannies in the seats and eyeballs on the tube. ILL can't, or can't to the same degree that PSU and Wisconsin can. Michigan "doesn't travel as well" after a loss to OSU, or at least that was the reasoning a couple of years ago when Iowa got an outback bowl bid over Mich, so an OSU win could really help the ILL. But I would still think that an 8 win Mich (with a hopefully healthy Henne and Hart) would be more attractive to Bowl Organizers than ILL. If it does indeed come down to money(Though there was a CO BOWL rep on TV this week talking about how they would choose the best team for their bowl and money would come second. Yes I realize that he paid to say that, but I would like to see some examples that contradict his statement.), Illinois, having by the best resume of the teams involved, could very easily be placed in the Capitol One Bowl, if their opponent is Florida at least. -

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) I heard somebody say they thought Illinois was gonna go to the Cap One bowl, and if not the Outback... I laughed a little and took a look at it... Rose: Michigan/OSU Winner Cap One OSU(if loses), Wiscy/PSU (with wins) (Mich would be 8-4 w/ a loss so they might fall behind a 9 win WISC or PSU) Outback Michigan (with loss) Wisky/PSU/ILL (with wins) Alamo: Will pick the lone remaining non-ILL team from the Wisky,PSU,Mich clan. Champs: Illinois -- Champs gets a good team, maybe a better team than Mich/PSU/Wisky, but a team without the drawing power of those 3. Insight: Purdue/Iowa -- Iowa has the bigger draw/traveling road show, but they've looked terrible in pretty much every game. $$ wins out, Iowa will get the bid (as long as they beat WMU, which isn't a given) Motor City: Purdue (as long as MSU doesn't win) an MSU win and they'll be the biggest possible draw here. Indy's only route in is a win over Purdue, plus an Iowa and MSU loss Northwestern's only route in is a win over ILL, plus and Iowa, MSU, and INDY loss. Illinois needs MSU to beat PSU (plus a win over NW, obviously) to possibly get into the Outback or assure themselves of the Alamo. An MSU win also puts one of Purdue/Iowa on the outside looking in. In that scenario, I think it might be Iowa as the team left out, because there's no way that every bowl passes on an 8 win Purdue. Iowa would, no doubt, be snatched up in a second as an at-large by some crappy bowl. With a win, Illinois ties for 2nd in the Big Ten. They're going to the Outback/CO. -

Unconventional Offseason Idea/Strategy
Buehrle>Wood replied to JohnCangelosi's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Everyone is saying our first line of priority this offseason HAS to be upgrading the bullpen (poll on whitesox.com) and it seems to be the case here as well at SoxTalk.com... First of all, if you understand the strategy of "find out where everyone is going and go in the opposite direction" you understand it's usually the proper thing to do in many situations. I'll give an example just so I don't have to further explain that statement. Most people are dead broke. 5% of the people out there control 90%+ of the wealth. Point: Don't follow the herd mentality of getting a job, get taxed everyway till Sunday and then hoping you'll have enough at the end of the day. You won't. The herd tells you "get a job, work your way up, see what happens". Nonsense. Same thing goes for "consensus thinking" on many different subjects all across the board from the stock market to baseball. What if, instead of investing in 2-3 more bullpen arms we took the risk of thinking that Mac and Thornton are in for a good year next year? Perhaps we sign one of the Japanese bullpen prospects but just keep it there and spend our money elsewhere??? It seems to me that quite often bullpens can be great one year and suck the next (see 2005 for Cliff Politte, Neil Cotts and then 06) Last year was obviously a disaster in the pen and no question it was the worst in baseball for various reasons. I do think, however, when healthy (like Mac) these guys can be really tough. And I don't think we give up on them yet and completely retool this thing. Honestly, and I know am very much in the minority here, but I am OK with us just picking up one arm (perhaps from Japan) for our Pen and then addressing the other issues we need taken care of such as getting a second baseman and CF through FA and trades... OK, so there it is...let me have it... ;-) That's always been Kenny's philosophy it seems, just throw a bunch of arms in the bullpen, skilled or not, and see what happens. Last year was really the only year I can remember it being a failure. But failure is an understatement here. I want to see KW go out and sign a couple guys just to be safe. There are guys out there with conistent track records in the 'pen believ it or not. -

The first was in a topic created by a mod. The mod asked everyone to turn on their inboxes, didn't give a reason. They do that every once in awhile so it didnt seem like a big deal. But then some one posted "Big, no HUGE news is coming soon guys". When I clicked in, the topic was locked. Then when I clicked out, the topic was gone. Then a thread popped up "Big news coming soon". Didn't make it in there, already deleted. Next minute there is a "Big news coming soon?" thread asking about what was up with the last two posts. Again deleted almost immediatly -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 10, 2007 -> 03:54 AM) Offer a horrid start by CU where they were down 15 or 17 at one point, they end up coming back and winning by a dozen. The 2nd half was all Stinnett, unbelievable performance by him in his first college game. Terrific 2nd half by CU to win that. But I'm sitting here wondering, what is DePaul thinking going to Creighton to play their first game of the season? I wouldn't care if you're the number one team in the country, you don't do that. -
