  2. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:09 PM) https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/692800623406772224 Are they trolling season ticket holders now? Nope, just clueless
  3. Please ask Hahn how his 6 week trip to a deserted island was In all seriousness, I hope things aren't too negative this weekend.
  4. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) Have the Sox ever announced the addition of a new player at Soxfest? IIRC, Kenny Lofton
  5. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) #halfwaythere #almostnotquite #maybe2017 #wetried #hahnpokerpro #posturing
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 05:05 AM) Back to Fowler. I kind of like the Sox chances and wonder if the cubs rumors are an effort to drive the price up on the Sox. By the time the cubs come to an agreement with Arrieta and fill out their roster with league minimum players, their payroll should end up around 165M+. How much more can they or are they willing to spend? Signing Fowler would put them around 180M which doesn't leave much room for adding future payroll without going over the luxury tax threshold. They would almost definitely be trading Hammel to free up money
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 04:58 AM) I'd be extremely happy if this ended up being the move. Not only are you upgraded the defense slightly, but the offense gets a big boost: Eaton RF Fowler CF Abreu 1B Frazier 3B Cabrera LF LaRoche DH Lawrie 2B Avila/Navarro C Saladino SS I think that's a playoff caliber roster with our pitching Brings some solutions to the bench questions. Avi can platoon with LaRoche. Schuck won't be needed as much for defense, so he will be your designated PR
  8. If you are a team like the Dodgers, Rangers or Cubs, it makes sense to say you will look at mid-season trades due to system depth. Signing players for money instead of giving up your few resources is so much smarter for the Sox.
  9. What we need is a catchy hashtag!!!
  10. Should have a better idea tomorrow about Fowler, as Tampa might be making a deal. They still haven't announced the Pearce signing, as their 40 man is full
  11. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 03:50 AM) And couple corrections to you post. Sox could have a good scouting department unfortunately it's the player development group that's the issue. Sox get guys with potential but unfortunately can not develop the players to get the talent out of them. Secondly cubs dont don't get a pick for fowler. They get one but will be lost right away. Remember they signed both lackey and Heyward which each cost a pick. So they loose their 1st round pick and also the comp pick tied to fowler. They just will get their second round pick. What sucks about the system is they can bring back Fowler and just spend a fortune on Lazarito and not have their system suffer. They already signed a guy last October that some thought would be the first pick in draft if eligible.
  12. I will be shocked if he can't put up a sub 4 in that park
  13. Cy, you are killing it lately. Bravo!!
  14. All along, I have felt the Cubs told Fowler to hold off signing with another team as they finalize a monster deal with Tampa. Recent leaks about Tampa being interested in Dickerson and Desmond seem like a push to get the Cubs to up their offer. If the sox do get a Fowler, it needs to be two years at minimum.
  15. Who am I missing on the bench? Navarro, Schuck and Sanchez
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 05:15 AM) But we know if he was on the White Sox...somehow...he would just end up with a 650-675 OPS, be exposed defensively and hit about .050-.075 cumulatively against the Tigers and Royals. Still better than LaRoche vs LHP
  17. The coming home special on Abreu was great. He's such a fascinating individual, I would love to see him make the World Series and get national attention.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 05:04 AM) Somehow, Raburn will end up on the Cubs...just to torment Fathom. Their bench is far too good for him
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 05:31 AM) Sox can't really get involved. He'll go to Dodgers or Cubs because they've already gone way over their pool. If the White Sox were to sign Lazarito, they wouldn't be able to sign anyone from the 2016 class. I would take that risk for him but we all know the Sox would never do this. The system is such a joke.
  20. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 04:09 AM) Given that some of the best remaining options require draft pick compensation, has there been any thought that perhaps the best remaining course of action is to do nothing? Yes, you're banking on Garcia, La Roche and others rebounding from down/bad seasons, but you're not giving questionable deals and losing picks while retaining payroll flexibility. You're also exhausting Garcia - he either makes it or not. Problem is there are no back up options for Avi and LaRoche if they fail. If the Sox aren't going to spend a lot over the next month, at least bring in Raburn to platoon vs LHP. As it stands now, there is no one to help out LaRoche. Hahn better not give us the BS line that LaRoche will bounce back against southpaws.

  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 27, 2016 -> 01:02 AM) So another answer for nobody. I will give you they passed on Boras clients, but so did a lot of teams. Other than that, they gave Borchard the biggest bonus of all time at the time. KW fired Duane Shaffer because of his bad drafts. It wasn't bonus money that made them pick Mitchell over Trout. And how many draft picks did they give up to sign players? They gave up one for Dunn, other than that he was the first free agent from another team KW gave more than $20 million. The vast majority of draft picks wind up in a different profession. Some are good, and some you hope can become inventory for trade. I will give you there will be a player or more available at 28 who will be a future all star, and maybe even better than that. What evidence does one have that the White Sox will select him? The better chance is it becomes someone you can trade someday for someone like Fowler. That is essentially what you would be doing anyway. I like draft picks as much as anyone, but the chance to get someone that will be a top 5-7 player on this team at lower than predicted AAV is something this organization can't pass up in my opinion. They need to keep adding to the talent level on the MLB roster.
