Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) The current Sox outfield is a bit of a mess, and doesn't inspire much confidence in this front office. None of our current outfielders are home grown products. They were all acquired, over the last 3 years, through trades or free agency. One would think that they would have been able to put together a decent outfield. However, here are the facts: 1) Defensively, the Sox arguably have 3 left fielders. None of them is a viable candidate for RF, and only one is a credible center fielder, just barely. 2) Not one of them is likely to hit even 20 homers 3) Not one of them is likely to steal more than 20 bases. I like Eaton, and Melky is an OK player. It's too soon to pass judgement on Avi. What grade would you give the front office on the construction of this team's outfield? Davidson and Avi being horrible busts has really hurt

Marcell Ozuna
Probably the last post in this thread: Follow Joe FrisaroVerified account @JoeFrisaro The signing of Wei-Yin Chen basically ends any thoughts the #Marlins have about trading OF Marcell Ozuna for a pitcher.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) So, in other words, we have a 2500+ post thread here and Cespedes will be signing elsewhere. Great. I f***ing hate the Sox sometimes. The team that signs Cespedes to a huge deal is going to really hate it in 2018-2019. The one thing I can't get over is that none of these guys are good fits, as the Sox need a right fielder and none of them fit the mold. It's a lot of money to spend for someone that won't improve your defense very much due to shuffling. Also, shouldn't you be concerned about Hahn and company potentially giving out the biggest contract in team history after the disaster that last year's FA spending was for them?

Sox interested in Carlos Gonzalez
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:47 PM) I agree, and think the return should be less than the Frazier deal. If it is, Sox should jump on it. With what? There's very little in the system that has value that other teams couldn't EASILY beat

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
From mlbtraderumors chat: Justin Cespedes to white sox before soxfest? Can't see the ChiSox ponying up for him at this point, and I've been led to believe that their interest in Cespedes has been somewhat overstated. Steve Adams

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:26 PM) If Sox can nab CarGo and hold onto Anderson/Fulmer, make the deal. Is it a stretch to think we could bring in 2 OF's? One on a trade (from Colorado, maybe they would take Laroche, a prospect and $$), and sign one of the remaining FA's (Fowler)? That would leave Sox with Fowler and CarGo playing the corners and move Melky to DH. They'd have to bump up payroll obviously, but it doesn't seem too drastic. Anyone? No chance, way too much money. Sox don't seem to match up at all with the Rockies. Still think it's either Cardinals or Orioles if it's Cargo and Angels for Blackmon.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) I think he ends up with the Mets, now that they're interested. Who knows, maybe both Cespedes and Upton sign 1 year deals and try again next offseason.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 07:24 PM) Please no Fowler... In recent days I've changed my mind on him. Definite upgrade over Avi and looks like they can get him for significantly less than what was originally thought.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:00 PM) Ehh I see no reason to really be worried about the Red Sox or Mets though. What other teams would jump in? I don't really see that many. Cardinals maybe

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 06:53 PM) Just to play Devil's Advocate, if the price for Cespedes/Upton eventually does come down in the 2-3 yr range then there will be teams that aren't interested now jump in the mix. Yep, which is why you're hearing about the Tigers, Mets and Red Sox possibly getting back into the picture.

Marlins near agreement with Wei-Yin Chen
Marlins might only have to pay Chen 20 million for 2 years....great deal

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 06:37 PM) Doesn't this lower the price for a Colorado OF in a trade too? Teams know they have to trade an OF now. I'm willing to bet they already have the parameters of a deal in place

2015-16 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) It's not at all that simple. Yes, talent helps, but it's also very dependent on the head coach putting an emphasis on special teams. I also think having a kicker that can kick it high and just long enough is important. FSU's kicker was amazing at that.

Sox interested in Carlos Gonzalez
FWIW, the guy who broke the Parra signing was also the one who said the Sox were interested in Cargo

Sox interested in Carlos Gonzalez
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) It would be incredible to see Baltimore give up a nice prospect package for any of the Rockies OFs taking them out of both Davis and Cespedes. I could see them still going after Davis if they get Dickerson

Wilmer Flores
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) If the Sox are seriously interested in him, that makes me think that they don't see Anderson as the SS of the future. But perhaps he could switch to be an OF or something else. Or Anderson is trade bait

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) That is a double bonus for the White Sox. #1 it will mean the Rockies trade an OF, and it is a low number. Yep, makes Fowler's price way lower than I thought it would be. I'd rather have Fowler at something like 3/42 than Cespedes at 4/100

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 4m4 minutes ago Gerardo Parra has signed with #Rockies for 3 years and $26 million, according to report from my friend @WilmerReina. Wow, less money than I thought. Now time for Rockies to make a deal.

Soxfest Updates
I'm assuming Eaton's name was probably going to be on a press release with another update in the days ahead. Lots of bigger names missing, including Robertson/Q/Lawrie/Cespedes

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) That tells you exactly how far his price has fallen FWIW Or that Cespedes' camp has reached back out to teams to ask for more money on shortened deals

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) I think Cespedes is holding up the market more than Davis is. But some of this has nothing to do with either of them https://t.co/ZqArou2jqZ https://twitter.com/jaysonst/status/686654828148342790 Someone asked Jayson if Davis is holding up the market and his reply I've been wondering if maybe it's Baltimore trying to make a trade for Cargo

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) Why is that a concern? He has a good arm, and RF would seem to have less balls hit on the screws that scares him into playing so deep. He takes far too long to release a ball, which seems like a recipe for a ton of first to third on a base hit.

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 10:17 PM) To me, he doesn't pass the eye test, and the metrics don't like him much either. DRS hates him, and UZR usually hates him too but said he was OK in 2015. I also worry that Eaton would be a disaster in RF if they get a CF and move Eaton there.

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 08:59 PM) Not just today but over the past few days. I feel like the longer this drags out, the more teams that will get involved due to a lower price & the Sox will get caught standing there. I'm the opposite where I think the price is just too high for the Sox to commit to it, and eventually, a team like the Orioles or Tigers will get desperate enough to pay up.
