Game Thread 6/17
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 01:28 AM) I'm all for penciling in Rios at #3 and drawing the other 8 spots out of a hat. It's just amazing the lack of energy and enthusiasm this team has. Everyone continues to play so tight. It will be interesting to see if anyone in the organization has the balls to make changes after what has to be one of the more ridiculous 4 game series in recent Sox history (assuming they go on to lose tonight).

Game Thread 6/17
I don't get why Ventura is keeping Alexei in the 2nd spot when he's openly questioning (Ventura that is) if it's having a negative impact on Alexei's power. I'm all for giving Beckham the chance batting 2nd, as it's not like things can get much worse for this offense.

QUOTE (mike89128 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 02:09 AM) See Dunn's playing first again with Pauly DHing about the 5th straight game.Think it leads credence to Paulie having a bad back. I think it leads credence to them grooming Dunn for 1b full time next year.

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:40 PM) Because despite all the gloom and doom , I'm hoping the Sox can do enough to compete again sooner rather than later and I'd rather not have them get better at our expense. That's pretty much the standard reason for not dealing within the division. I also think the Rangers will be desperately seeking more help than the Tigers need and a trade with the Rangers could be a blockbuster. Unfortunately, it just seems the talent level difference is too extreme between the two teams. Hopefully you're right though!

QUOTE (staxx @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 12:33 AM) When do you learn a ball caught in the fence is a dead ball? 5th grade? Yep, Farmer and DJ made it sound like another De Aza mental mistake

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) Sending Rios or Peavy to the Tigers might not be the best idea in the world since they're under contract for a while. Ditto anyone like Reed who would be unexpected. If they want to give us Castellanos (their only top prospect) for either of those guys, I wouldn't say no. If the Sox go into rebuilding mode, you can't worry about catching the Tigers the next few years (a team that's "all in").

Post-draft top 5 prospects
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) 1.) Erik Johnson 2.) Tim Anderson 3.) Courtney Hawkins 4.) Trayce Thompson 5.) Micah Johnson 6.) Carlos Sanchez 7.) Tyler Danish 8.) Keon Barnum 9.) Trey Michalczewski 10.) Andrew Mitchell Welcome to the board, and I don't know if it's good or bad for you that I completely agree with your top 10 except I'd put Beck in instead of Mitchell.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:01 PM) That surely will make up for losing the World Series in 4 straight . I was totally waiting for after tonight's game to use that line!!!

You're Hahn, who are you looking to trade first?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 10:09 PM) The Rangers are falling. Oakland is rising. If Nelson Cruz gets suspended Rangers are the 1st team I look at as a trade partner, but I mentioned that long ago. If they see their window to win a World Series closing fast they have to be contacted as soon as the drug suspensions play out. I don't want the Sox dealing with Detroit at all. Why does it matter if they deal with the Tigers? As long as it's not Sale, I don't think there's anyone we'd be trading to them that would haunt us for a long time. With that said, Tigers have very little in their farm system to trade us.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) John Danks July 10. I still can't believe anyone would pick up that contract given the awful success rate of pitchers returning from shoulder surgery. In my opinion, he'd be one of the hardest players in all of baseball to trade.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) The best comparison I can come up with off hand for a Rios deal is Hunter Pence for Seth Rosin, Tommy Joseph, and Nate Schierholtz last deadline. Rosin and Joseph look like mediocre prospects (though highly drafted, 4th and 2nd rounds respectively) and Schierholtz left in free agency to the Cubs (and is having a great year). All I'm going to say is that dealing Rios is risky. IIRC, Joseph was a very highly rated catching prospect

2013 Minor League Transactions
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 08:46 PM) I think you're being a bit reactionary. Sanchez is the youngest of the three and it's not like Semien is setting the world on fire in AA. Sub .750 OPS. I'm just not a fan of a player that projects to have absolutely no power playing 81 games in our park. By no means am I writing him off, I just think Johnson and Semien are better prospects.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) Appel and Rodon will be one hell of a tandem in the not too distant future. Marlins will end up with worse record than Astros

Jake, if you start to trade Rios and Peavy, you're basically giving up on next year also. When organizations get in trouble is when they try to rebuild while contending. It's very hard to look at the roster without Rios and Peavy and think this team can even sniff competing against the powerhouse Tigers.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) Just good enough to lose by a run night after night. Which is all it would take to get Carlos Rodon He's currently dominating on ESPN2.

2013 Minor League Transactions
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) Carlos Sanchez has been really disappointing this year. Yep, IMO Micah Johnson is a better prospect, and I would put Semien above him as well.
