  1. Supposedly Mariners are asking for Brandon Belt for League, according to fangraphs
  2. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 08:35 PM) He's 26 years old, he may be very good. At the moment he's useless to a team in a pennant race. There are things to like about Liriano, but durability is not one of them. His starts are going to tax the pen and another RH reliever is necessary. I'll be stunned if they don't get one before the deadline. Jones isn't useless, as you're going to need relievers who can give you some innings in games you're not winning. Right now, you don't want to use Myers/Crain/Thornton/Reed in games you're trailing.
  3. With Jones, I'd like to see him get a few games where he can start an inning and have more margain for error. Despite his 99 mph fastball, I think his best pitch is his slider. However, he's unable to use it as much if he comes in with runners on base.
  4. Mariners supposedly very close to trading League
  5. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 07:05 PM) So Castro is young and all, but he has a .308 obp. I would imagine that the vast majority of those across baseball would rather have him than viciedo, but I'm not sure that there is much difference IMO, Cubs should offer Castro to Mariners for Hultzen and another prospect
  6. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Fister has been looking much better for the Tigers his past couple starts. He's definitely the X factor for that rotation
  7. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) So, someone has to be sent down to make room if Olmedo comes up. Septimo I assume? Maybe santiago Should be Septimo, as Sox need a long reliever on the roster.
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) Last year Fotenot's majority of appearances were at SS for the SF Giants. Here is his line as a SS. Pos G GS CG Inn Ch PO A E DP Fld% Rtot Rdrs Rtot/yr Rdrs/yr RF/9 RF/G lgFld% SS 50 43 27 365.0 158 51 100 7 20 .956 -4 -3 -12 -9 3.72 3.02 .971 4.40 4.38 He can play all three INF spots we need, SS/3B/2B and brings a over .300 career BA. I think this dude fits perfectly! Fontenot is a career .265 hitter with 17 steals.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 07:50 PM) I think it's spelled "Ray", but either way, a terrible 31-year-old IF who hasn't been in the majors since....2006 maybe? And will only be used for defensive purposes, so it's not a big deal
  10. It's awesome they have Doug Collins announcing, as he's able to provide great insight based on seeing these players against the 76ers last year.
  11. Coming into tonight, Escobar was hitting .159 with a .444 OPS against righties. That's not starting SS caliber unless he drastically improves. I do want to thank him for walking off the Brewers on that Sunday afternoon.
  12. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 06:03 AM) I should clarify when I was sad about Escobar it was because of how hard he was taking being traded not his on-field value. I'm not saying anyone is wrong for liking/supporting him. I thought 95% of the board (including yours truly) was really down on him after the blown double play in Boston.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 06:00 AM) You're not fun when you're optimistic. Want to pretend it's 2005 again and have numerous disagreements?
  14. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:22 AM) loved how tex stared at his homerun and started to walk torwards first after hitting a tying hr off padilla(they had issues with each other earlier in the year) cant stand padilla Yes, that was awesome
  15. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 05:58 AM) That means we can go farther back, since the 2006 squad was more talented than the 2005 squad (considering no Frank of course in either) That 2006 quad was the most talented Sox team I can recall
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 05:53 AM) A lot of people hated the Sox bench. Tyler Flowers is the last man standing from opening day. I know he played well tonight, but I'm amazed at how many supporters Escobar has in this thread. Anyways, I now believe this is the most talented Sox team since the 2006 squad, assuming Sale and ADA are/stay healthy.
  17. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 04:45 AM) Danks is our only backup OF. Jeff Baker of the Cubs wouldnt be a bad pickup Agreed, and I've said before I think Reed Johnson would be a tremendous fit as well.
  18. 7 of Liriano's last 10 starts were quality starts
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:44 AM) The Tigers gave up Jacob Turner and a high level catching prospect to get Annibal Sanchez. We have up Eduardo Escobar and Pedro Hernandez to get Francisco Liriano. +100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
  20. Put it this way...if it was the Tigers or Theo making the same trades this year that KW has, we'd be extremely pissed off.
  21. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:24 AM) No. wouldn't be surprised if another trade happens now. SS2k has sold me on it being Morel.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:21 AM) Seriously though, KW is going beast mode. Put it this way...if Escobar, Pedro Hernandez, Heidenreich, Walters, Lillibridge or Stewart are missed by the Sox, then it's likely the Sox team in the next few years are going to suck.
  23. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:19 AM) I bet Saladino will be joining the Sox tomorrow Good call
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:02 AM) No save he entered in non save situation. I should have used green, sorry
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 03:16 AM) I think this likely means Danksy will be shut down. As well he should be.
