Sox (11-21) vs Mariners (15-17) 5/6 @ 9:10 CSN
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 03:35 AM) Damn, I didn't even realize Smoak was hitting so well. Makes Beckham look even more pathetic. B. Wallace looks really good this year also. At least Jason Castro's hurt.

Sox (11-21) vs Mariners (15-17) 5/6 @ 9:10 CSN
Humber has no control so far. Really want to see him work on his command over the course of the year, as even though his walk totals aren't bad, he's up in the zone far too often.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Poor Crain's ERA jumped by almost 2 runs due to Alexei's error being overturned to a hit.

Sox (11-21) vs Mariners (15-17) 5/6 @ 9:10 CSN
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 7, 2011 -> 03:17 AM) There's no might. It's bad and getting worse every year. Yet people seem genuinely happy on here with the job Buddy Bell has done.

Sox (11-21) vs Mariners (15-17) 5/6 @ 9:10 CSN
Seems like Dunn's popped up to left field 50% of the time he makes contact. At least we get to watch Humber tonight!

2011-2012 NCAA Basketball Thread
Well, the NCAA Tourney just got significantly less exciting.

Jose Reyes anyone?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 5, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) Nothing short of injury will stop him from being a star. I look at skillset moreso than I do raw numbers. I'd trade anybody on our team for Castro. Oh, without a doubt.

Jose Reyes anyone?
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 5, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) Castro is talented, but elite? He's going to hit for a high average but not for above average power, and while he has some speed he hasn't been much of a base stealer yet. I don't see him being anywhere near Tulo or Hanley. I've seen some scouts project Castro as a .320 type hitter, 20 homers a year. Not superstar caliber, but definitely one of the top 5 SS in the game.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ May 5, 2011 -> 07:34 PM) There was one 2 days ago...that was false. Was that David Kaplan one? Just saw it reading this thread. I was more trying to say to not always discredit a story like the Boozer one, which I don't think anyone has.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
Last time there was a source at a hospital story that came out, it ended up being about Quentin and his broken wrist in '08.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 5, 2011 -> 01:18 AM) Rose is off to an awful start as well. Hawks look quicker and "hungrier" right now. No doubt Bulls will win tonight, but at Atlanta is going to be tougher than I thought it would be.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
Boozer looks a step slower than the step slow he's been.

You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:17 PM) fire everyone except the players since you can't I guess? Even though its 100% on the players? Sounds about right. What do you suggest they do (sincere question)?
-
You are KW/JR. You have the power
I'm not even going into detail about the Jackson/Hudson trade and the impact on our payroll, but I'm willing to bet that when we trade Jackson in 2 months, it will be for a player far below Hudson's caliber.

You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ May 4, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) My best guess is that it's completely void as soon as he toes an MLB rubber. I say this with very little knowledge of insurance, but it seems that as soon as a team gets any of their expected use out of a player, they're on the hook. I'm fairly sure that's the case, as Baltimore had to deal with this uncertainty with Albert Belle.

Funny b-rye, this roster does remind me of the 2010 Cubs. We (the Sox) are already looking forward to which contracts are off the books in two years, just like they are after this year.
-
You are KW/JR. You have the power
Put Viciedo in LF, and let Rios leadoff (not that it will happen, but that's how we can improve by replacing a starter with a minor leaguer).

All In The Twins Ass; 5/4/2011 Gamethread
QUOTE (flavum @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:00 PM) It makes me wonder if they converted all of the early saves, and actually started the season 11-2, or whatever it was... Would they be a good team now? Did the bullpen woes infect this team mentally, and they just can't get out of it now? It's just a bad team with no balls. Damn you Cliff Pennington. That flare to center was the beginning of the end of this season.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:58 PM) If he doesn't play, we get back 70% of the contract. So either Peavy pitches, or we only pay him 30%. Either way that is still way better than Zito. But the question is, if he makes a few starts this year, do we get a prorated amount or is the insurance completely void?
-
You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:55 PM) Really? Now you are just being dramatic. Zito still has 3 years and $57 million left. Peavy can be gone after 2012 for $16 million this year, $17 million next year, plus his buyout in 13. Depending on Peavy's health though and insurance, if he's getting 33 million to sit on the bench and eat soup, then that's just as bad as Zito's (but boy, is Zito's contract terrible).

You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Peavy? No, I don't. No one could have possibly begun to predict his freakish injury. Yes it was a freak injury, but there were definitely some concerns about his health and how many "good" years he had left in that elbow, etc. Every move a GM makes, they think is a good move. Heck, Teahen's contract is nothing in the scheme of things, but Peavy's contract is a killer.
-
You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) He built a roster that by all accounts has plenty of talent to go to the post-season. That's his job, and he did it, and did it well. He even convinced JR to spend more money than the org really wanted to. He juiced everything he could out of people to make a roster that has the talent to get it done. Seems like a good job to me. And we really don't have many bad contracts, I fail to see where you see that. Teahen extension was stupid, given. Ohman was too much money. Otherwise, I don't see it. You don't think Peavy and Rios are bad contracts? Peavy might have surpassed Zito as having the worst contract in the majors. I feel like you're confusing activity with achievement, as he's really hurt this organization by going "all in" with a roster that had flaws and sacrificing the future after this season.

You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 4, 2011 -> 08:46 PM) Most of that is because we dont have the players in our system to fill holes. That's where we miss Jermaine Dye
-
You are KW/JR. You have the power
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:42 PM) I personally don't see a need to fire KW. I think on the whole he's done a great job. This is not about building a poor roster, at all. Its about living up to talent. That's on the manager, the coaches, and the players, in some combination. How has he done a great job? We used to pride ourselves on having no bad contracts. Now, we have a handful of guys you couldn't even give away.

All In The Twins Ass; 5/4/2011 Gamethread
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ May 4, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) unfortunatley theres like a 0% chance of that happening, well anytime soon, same for aj So what you're saying is they need to get into a fight that violates their contract and then we can get rid of both of them? Ugh, reminds me of college basketball where I wanted Hewitt to get caught with an underaged prostitute that was also a terrorist.
