  1. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) The Braves site says Renteria is due to become a free agent after this coming season (2008). If that is true, Detroit is giving up two talented young players for a rental. The CF prospect is extremely highly regarded. What this speaks to, as much as anything, is the Tigers drafting. They take CF prospects just about every year, just as the Phillies do. Speedy 4/5 tool CF prospects can net just about anything you want in trade. They still have Maybin so this kid was a tradeable asset. Not to be a downer but meanwhile the White Sox sit with Brian Anderson, who might fetch a middle relief prospect at best. All we can do is hope the new scouting direction will give the White Sox more results. It also speaks to Atlanta's scouting and development because I believe they've got someone ready to step in. He has 2 yrs, 20 mil left including a team option. Escobar will be stepping in for the Braves. FWIW, Gorkys is a better offensive prospect than anyone the Sox have.
  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) They want Furcal gone; offer Contreras I really wish people would stop saying this trade as if it's possible. If the Dodgers are looking to get out of Furcal's contract, why would they take on a bad contract that still has a few more years on it? If we're going to get Furcal, it's going to have to be for Garland.
  3. Ugh....the first move, and the AL Central already becomes tougher. It's ok though, this time of the year is fun. I still believe Tejada and Furcal are more likely options than Renteria was.
  4. Scary rumor I just heard that ARod to the Tigers might be the most likely situation of all. Boras and Leyland are very close friends.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) ARod is a great player and all, but no way is he worth that type of contract... Especially for a player who chokes like a b**** in the playoffs. How come no one on this site ever talks about how much Aaron Rowand sucked in the playoffs?
  6. Well, that was boring as hell. Outside of Buehrle's no-hitter, Bonds record breaking homer, Thome's 500th homer, and Lilly's glove throw, this was about the most boring baseball season of my life.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) You're worried about OF Defense? Then I got news for you. We've actually got 2 more quality defensive OF's hanging out in winterball this season because they've been struggling with the bats. As soon as Crede is moved out of the way, then you put either Sweeney, or for defensive purposes, Pref. Anderson in CF, and you suddenly have one of the better defensive OF's in baseball with Owens's speed in LF. Sweeney and Anderson don't have much of a future left in this organization.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) Which IMO seems highly unlikely, don't you? Not necessarily....I think a lot of people assume it will be that group owned by Selig's friend.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 03:07 AM) Aside from Lou, the Cubs make zero sense. 1.Ownership is in question. Nothing will be in place by the time Alex signs a new deal, so a deal that is paying a player 30 million+ really doesn't seem like a possibility. 2. Cubs financial situation. I believe the Cubs already have 75+ locked into 2010. They really are not set up that well for the future, and I don't see them locking themselves into a deal THAT BIG. 3. Ramierez. Obviously thats not going to totally stop the Cubs for pursuing Alex, but Al-Rod would have to be signed before Aram was traded. You have then really minimized the value of Aram, because you have forced your own hand. I really think the Dodgers make the most sense, with the Angels close behind, and the Giants in 3rd. The only way the Cubs could be the team is if Boras knows who will be the new owner, and they've talked.
  10. Interesting timing of this coming out just as the Red Sox are about to win the WS.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 02:08 AM) Even at the trade deadline I wasn't even thinking about Ellsbury. It amazed me at the general ignorance of some people at the trade deadline about certain players' value. When the report of Dye for WMP + Delcarmen (or Masterson) being very close was talked about that morning, there were actually people who thought we weren't getting enough. "WMP strikes out too much and Delcarmen is a reliever. Buccholz and Ellsbury with Beckett thrown in or no deal!" Don't worry, give it a week, and the ignorance will be starting again with the offseason trade market/free agency period.
  12. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 01:46 AM) Was Lester ever included in those talks for Dye? Even getting Lester + WMP for Dye at the deadline would've been a coup. I think Lester was a little less highly regarded (that's just my take, I certainly could be wrong) than Masterson and even Manny Delcarmen. Yep -- I'm still thinking about that trade/deal that couldn't be reached/finalized No, Lester is much more highly regarded than those guys as a lefty and a starter. No chance we were getting him or Ellsbury in a trade.
  13. It's a shame Sweeney is continuing to suck, as I know the Sox were hoping he'd play well this offseason so they could trade him.
  14. Bernard Berrian is having just a pathetic season. It's shocking how much the fortunes of this franchise has changed in just a few months, especially if there's any truth to Urlacher having an arthritic back condition.
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) Danielle manning couldn't follow a trail of breadcrumbs to a ballcarrier. I don't think I've ever seen him take a proper route. He's having one of the poorest games possible. And I don't care what the ref said...that PI was his fault.
  16. Every Griese interception seems to be a big one in the red zone or returned for a TD. Can we just play Grossman for the first 55 minutes of the game, and then put Griese in for the final 5?
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Since I'm not in the Chicago area and can't listen to sports radio or read the papers, are people calling for Turner's head yet? This is a joke. Every offensive coordinator would salivate at the field position the Bears get on just about every drive, and week after week we can't even consistently get in position for f***ing FIELD GOALS. Griese's late offensive outbursts the last few games have really masked just how awful this offense has been.
  18. Manning and Archuleta just kill this team.
  19. The UGa antics on their opening touchdown has to be one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen.
  20. This is shaping up to be the least entertaining WS I can remember. This has to be one of the biggest mismatches in WS history.
  21. It's really surprising how much some of the power numbers have declined for guys that were on the 2003 Braves team.
  22. Has a team ever got swept by a team in the NLDS that got swept by a team in the NLCS that got swept by a team in the World Series?
  23. That hot babe makes me Kerry Wood.
