Very possibly the biggest longshot I've ever seen make the NBA. He was a walk-on who never averaged over 5 ppg in college. He simply made the Hawks on hustle. Couldn't happen to a nicer human being. http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/h...owest_1026.html

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) Without harping on Grossman too much -- does anyone here think he could handle a drive like that without anyone calling plays? He'd probably throw it downfield immediately and watch it returned for a touchdown. No, I don't think he could have lead that drive. However, I think he completes that deep pass to Hester for a TD. If the Bears don't have that drive yesterday, Griese would have been ridiculed for that weak pass and fumbling on the goal line. Griese did a very good job yesterday of side-stepping the rush. That's something Rex is pathetic at.

It really is astonishing how much this Bears team sucks. I would have never expected this coming into the season. At least we get to see Griese underthrow the deep ball for another few months.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 01:23 AM) Jack also had 5 teammates that averaged at least 9.2 ppg that year. You seem to be under the impression that I said they are exact duplicates. I said they have a similar CAREER paths. Both put up somewhat similar scoring numbers, both are crappy 3 point shooters, Jack shot from the floor better, James turns the ball over less, both can rebound and put up similar assist numbers. Both are pretty good point guards, and James has a chance to be drafted late in the 1st round as well if he has a good junior season and increases his 3 point shooting the way Jack did between his sophomore and junior seasons. Understand...good discussion. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) Jarret Jack Freshman: 9.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 5.9 apg, 3.6 topg, 28%3PT Sophomore: 12.5 ppg 4.5 rpg, 5.6 apg, 3.1 topg, 31% 3PT Dominic James Freshman: 15.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.4 apg, 2.8 topg, 30% 3PT Sophomore: 14.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 4.9 apg, 2.6 topg, 27% 3PT If you can see into the future and know that James is going to have a bad junior season then more power to you. You're conviently leaving out FG pct, as well as the fact Jack led his team to the championship game that season. I think even the biggest of Marquette fans would admit that Dom James was brutal the last half of the season. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 12:33 AM) Take a look at top 15 PG's in the past 5 years. 100% of them are in the NBA or getting ready to be drafted early (Collins, Lawson). Even a top 40 PG recruit like Jack took a similar career path to James. A path similar to James? More like the opposite. J. Jack was phenomenal his soph year. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 12:07 AM) Wasn't the big knock on Girardi, besides yelling at the owner, his handling of young pitchers? The Yankees rotation is going young. If he blows those arms, or shoulders, or elbows out, they are in trouble. Yes, Girardi was horrible in how he handled their young pitchers. He should be banned from baseball for the crap he pulled. What a piece of s***. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) Come on now, you can't compare James to Shumpert. IIRC James was a four star recruit. And if you want to go in that direction, Crean has gotten two guards into the NBA in Deiner (sp?) and obviously Wade. I'd also bet that all three of the current guards are eventually given looks (Matthews, James, McNeal). I'm guessing he chose GT because he's guaranteed to open next season as their PG, whereas UNC and Marquette couldn't *guarantee* those promises. Still, choosing on the merit kind of hurts -- if he wanted to win a national title, UNC is clearly the best choice and I can't imagine GT being in that much better (if at all) of a position than MU is, and a player like Shumpert would've put MU in that pre-season talk heading into next season. All I was saying is that there's no sure things with recruits, especially top 50 guys who are point guards. James had an amazing freshman year....but sucked last year. I honestly think it all came down to playing time. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) It's not exactly difficult to turn top 40 PG recruits into NBA draft picks. He didn't get either one drafted in the top 18 picks either year. Neither GT or Marquette were in on Iman early as well. There were 3 stages to his recruitment, programs like Wisconsin, Illinois, and So. Illinois were in on Iman early, then others like GT and Marquette came on to his recruitment in the middle and UNC came on a few months later. He will certainly get freedom at GT and no discipline what so ever. He can play glorified streetball for a year before leaving, lucky him. Tell that to Crean and Dominic James. If he's starting his freshman year there, they should have a strong nucleus with Clinch, Aminu, and Lawal. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) With as bizarre as the Shumpert recruitment was, it only makes sense he would pick Georgia Tech and shock everybody. Recruiting can suck sometimes. Oh, and the johnny come lately argument is a lie, Georgia Tech was very late in terms of getting in on the recruitment. And yes, Crittle did verbal to Oregon today. Actually, GT was on him at the beginning with Marquette, Bradley, and Clemson. UNC is the one who got in late. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) Decided to play for a gigantic whiner in Hewitt, yuck. Easily the worst choice he could have made. Yeah, Hewitt's just terrible at getting his point guards into the NBA. -

Shumpert to announce at 5:30 on Comcast. I've heard he's going to all 3 places today. Lots of rumors of UNC right now. -
QUOTE(thedoctor @ Oct 17, 2007 -> 02:11 AM) after getting my first extended look at him tonight, i have to say i'm happy we didn't end up with delcarmen in a dye deal. at least on this night he looked very similar to the relievers we currently have. You know he's been phenomenal this year? He'd be the 2nd best arm in our pen.

QUOTE(joeynach @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) Why add another all or nothing low batting average hitter. The sox have been trying to shy away from that type of guy with the whole grinder thing. The sox have the big boys in Thome, Konerko Dye, AJ, Crede, and Fields who all have the ability to hit for power with no batting avg or no situational hitting. I dont see how adding Burell helps round out the lineup around these guys. I believe KW has made it clear he wants more speed and smarter situational hitters to fill in this lineup. With Richar in place look more for like Shannon Stewart or possibly even Miguel Tejada to be on the radar list before Burell. I would trade for Victorino though. Check out Burrell's OBP.

Bob Melvin has had a horrible, horrible series. He's left some mediocre pitchers out there to die, when they have a very good bullpen (especially Cruz, who can get you the K). Oh well, at least we'll always have the NLDS.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 03:54 AM) This Rockies team is amazing. I haven't seen a team get this many clutch two-out hits since the '05 White Sox. Yeah, but the Rockies don't have a Japanese 2nd baseman....oh wait.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 01:03 AM) Is that before the 2005 season, or after the World Series? After WS, when his value would never be higher (and the Sox were skeptical they could extend him) and we could have gotten some prospects possibly.

Adam Dunn had a real good season last year....I'm still upset we didn't trade Contreras for him two seasons ago.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) He has been significantly better than Grossman was in his starts. I deleted my post, as I don't want to get into the whole Griese/Grossman debate again. Griese was atrocious today up until the last two drives.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) f***. Adrian Peterson is sick. Absolutely horrible kick by Gould on that.

Um, wow! I swear, every time I complain about Griese, he does something good.
