Unreal....what a stupid slide by Thome.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) i hate gonzo Good thing we have him batting 2nd.

Two very nice ABs for Pods today. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) Podsednik will be back in 2008. Not a chance in hell

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) So when we try a hit and run, and it's a strike-em-out, throw-em-out, then it's still Ozzie's fault. Come on now. This is a bad team. Face it. It's not Ozzie's fault that the hitters cant hit and the bullpen can't pitch. It was a double play either way...at least with the hit-and-run, we would have been trying to spice things up. These guys are so lethargic out there....even my bff Pods said that. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) I'm conflicted. This team is terrible and there's no way to blame Ozzie for it. But in this instance, it might've been best to have a hit and run. On the other hand, Podsednik+Gonzalez are such incapable ballplayers that that might've been a hit-and-run. Gonzalez did hit it to the right hand side, after all. I think that's the closest you've ever come to agreeing with me about a strategical error by Ozzie.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) Because DJ's word is the word of God now? Come on. You're trying to find any little reason to blame Ozzie for everything. You know it, everyone knows it. If we lose today, I find it hard to believe that we lost because we didn't try to steal or do a hit and run in the 1st inning. Jeez. GMAFB. All I was saying is that I'd like to see Ozzie be more aggressive in those few situations where we actually can be. When someone like DJ is criticizing Ozzie about something, then you know things are bad. You know why I blame Ozzie....cause this team sucks, and he's shown no ability to do anything to get things jump started again. Like my thread from two weeks ago, this would be the perfect time for Ozzie to step up and get things going in the right direction again.

Please no Crisp. He's expensive and sucks now. He looks to me like someone who benefitted from a little extra juice in the past.

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) Rod Beck Such a stupid post. Our advanced scouts did a really nice job in telling our pitchers to give Soriano a steady diet of fastballs.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) I'd deal Bobby Jenks for Salty... So would I, but I can't see the Sox trading him. With all the reliever issues we have, they'll be hard pressed to trade their main reliever.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) I don't freaking care. This is probably the best pitcher to get traded at the deadline since Bartolo Colon and that is life when you have quite a few competing teams, with good upper level prospects, that are interested in making a deal. Any Braves package involves Sally PLUS some (and yes they would have to give him up to make a deal). I don't give a s***, if the Sox are dealing Buehrle they better get an assload because that will not only benefit the Sox by getting good value in the Buehrle deal, but it will also set the market high. Unfortunately for someone like Jermaine Dye the value is going to be very low. The club can only hope it gets some decent prospects for guys like Iguchi (and I said decent), Pyrzinski, Uribe and whoever the heck else they move. Colon had another year left on his contract, so there's no comparison.

Is Toby still sick? He might as well get the labrum surgery now.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:31 PM) Get off his back already. Well, even DJ then mentioned that Ozzie hasn't been that aggressive this year, so are you going to tell him to get off of Ozzie's back? Maybe it's just me, but Gonzalez saw 5 pitches with Pods on base, and nothing was put on.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:30 PM) I think the price starts at Bucholtz and one of Ellsbury/Lowrie plus Willy Mo Pena. That is just my take. You know that package is probably twice as much as what we'll get. Now you're getting everyone's hopes up.

Nothing like hiring within the organization when everyone in the organization, in terms of scouting, has failed.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) Ugh. Gonzalez. Never again. I just want to know why in the world is he hitting 2nd? When's the last time Ozzie tried a hit-and-run?
-
Sweeney's in the minor league lineup today, which makes me think there really is a lot of truth to the Jones trade rumor. I'm worried it might have been for MacDougal, as neither player has been seen this series.
-
I'm sure glad we put Gonzalez in the 2nd hole and then don't try to do anything with Pods on base. That Ozzie sure knows his personnel.
-
QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) With two auto-outs in the lineup (Gonzalez, Uribe) I expect nothing from Pods. He is sandwiched in between two of the worst hitters and I don't think he'll see any pitches to hit. Why does it matter who's surrounding one of the least powerful hitters in baseball? He'll get good pitches to hit due to teams not wanting to walk him.
-
Contreras is throwing about 6 mph harder when he goes over the top. Also, Frank Thomas hit # 499.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) Umm. Are we talking about the Alex Rodriguez that signed with Texas and is represented by Scott Boras here? Perhaps Ichiro would not, but Boras goes for the market, not the team. Umm. Are we talking about the Alex Rodriguez that signed with Texas and is represented by Scott Boras here? Perhaps Ichiro would not, but Boras goes for the market, not the team. And if we are so f***ed for the immediate future, then why sign Buerhle for five years? I don't think we will sign Buehrle....and no way ARod would make the same mistake of signing with a bad team again.

1 away....congrats Frank!
-
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) I know that everyone here has a mancrush on Mark, but I can no longer support signing him. This offense is absolutely, positively horrendous, and at this point, there is nothing in the farm that would help us turn it around. We need to be putting that 80 million into Ichiro or Arod, or some other position player right now, and hope that Gavin or Gio or Egbert can step up. If we commit another 16 million to a pitcher next year, we will again see the worst offense in baseball. There's no way in hell that Ichiro or ARod will sign with a bottom 5 team in the majors. We have so many holes to fix anyways, it would be dumb to put that much money into one player.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Conteras, Vazquez, Iguchi, Buehrle, Uribe, possibly AJ if the Sox can land Saltamachia. Thome only if you are offered something great. I still think Thome should be one of the main guys we're looking to trade. We're likely not going to be a contender during the rest of his contract, and we could get some very valuable players for him.
-
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) You may very well be right. However it all depends how you look at it. Maybe it proves the players are incapable and not very bright. True, but as you know, it's a lot easier to replace one coach than 9 players, etc.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) If you listen to him on the Score he states this ALL THE TIME. Now if you can tell me where he teaches this lift and pull approach I would love to know. I have not heard it once and I have never seen it in print. The only place I ever see it is on this message board from posters such as yourself and SSI71. I think it is a made believe thing that this message board has taken and run with. It is nonsense. This just proves even more than that the needs to go, as he's not getting through to these guys. I guarantee we have the fewest opposite field homers in all of baseball this season.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 11:26 AM) Just like its not Greg Walker's fault that Dye can't hit this season, or the reason whey Konerko has struggled, or why Uribe swings at everything. Pods was interviewed after the game yesterday and he mentioned intensity and effort not being there. If Jerry Manuel were still managing the White Sox, this quote would have been a thread starter and exibit A as to why he is a terrible manager. Ozzie hasn't done that well managing the team IMO. The other day he made 5000 pitching changes in the 9th inning of a 1 run game and wound up with ARod vs. Bukvich with the bases loaded and Jenks wasn't even used. It isn't his fault the team is so bad, but then again it wasn't because of him the team won the World Series, although he was happy to accept all the credit.
