You have to pitch to Frank here. If you face Stairs, and bring in a lefty, then they'll have Wells bat. Ozzie doesn't believe in walking the go-ahead run to the plate anyways.
-
Did Ozzie really just bring in MacDougal to face a lefty? Good grief!

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) Now think of how fast Owens is, and then laugh at how slow Pods has been since the 2nd half of 05. Mackowiak, Ozuna, and Gload were our 3 fastest players last year.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 06:53 PM) Wow that was a pathetic half inning. Thome will be fine, he's just slumping recently. Dye and Konerko are a problem though. Never underestimate how much impact a rib cage/oblique injury can have on a hitter.

If Carlos Zambrano is a free agent, would you sign him?
fathom replied to gosox41's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
I'd be careful about signing Santana to a huge long-term deal also. His velocity is down significantly as well this year, and he is really accumulating a ton of pitches over the last 5 years. -
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) Jimmy not looking too good at the plate right now. He's been HORRIBLE besides the game against Colby Lewis.
-
What happened on the Uribe error? He has had some fielding problems at Toronto in the past.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Owens brings something to the table that we didnt really have for awhile. Patience, athleticism, and walks at the top of the order. I saw more of an understanding of how to be a slap hitter by him last night than Pods has shown in years. That grounder he had in the hole that he easily beat us was very pretty.

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) well no runs for toronto, but jose did throw about 26 pitches that inning, which means we could be seeing around fantastic bullpen in the 5th or 6th....greaaaat on sox pregame, they said the sox are 0-41 batting against opposing teams bullpens So what you're saying is we've been losing the battle of the bullpens lately?
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) Jose never seems to geet through the first innings easily anymore. What happened to the dominant pitcher of late 2005 - early 2006 that we all wanted to see resigned? Back injury and age? He's not even close to that same type of pitcher in terms of stuff.
-
QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) Jose not with his greatest stuff today it looks like. Really like to see him get back some crispness after one of his worst outings with the Sox last time out, in terms of stuff.
-
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 04:20 PM) Two in a row?? Huh? is it possible!?! I heard on the post-game show last night that the Sox have not had a hit off of an opposing relief pitcher since last Sunday's game. Pretty sad. 0 for last 48, I believe.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) There always seems to be wrong with something on this team or in the organization that the majority of our fans just can't let go. It is always the negative first. That attitude freaking sucks. Just look at a lot of these posters - enjoy the last 2 months of Buehrle - no chance in re-signing him. These same fans have no knowledge of what is going on behind the scenes and just want to think about the worst. Or maybe just some of us know how JR feels about signing pitcher to long-term contracts and what Buehrle's value is going to be on the open market.

Not until he shows the same type of stuff he had in recent years. His stuff is mediocre right now compared to how he used to throw. -
Anyone else hear rumors that Zambrano went apes*** in the clubhouse and tore it apart? I bet Barrett will be the scapegoat, and he'll be traded this wknd.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) These things also tend to happen occasionally when your average starting OF age is 32. Go get em Jerry. We could use someone stepping up. Just hit freaking .300 please. I'm going to the race track today. I'll update people if I see Pods rehabbing.
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) good point, not to mention that he's made some serious fielding gaffes the last few years. Fixed
-
Here's my thinking: with the Sox likely replacing Crede with Josh Fields this offseason, that should really clear up a lot of payroll. If the Sox don't bring back Buehrle, they better be in the hunt for guys like Ichiro.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) He has been on fire lately. Im excited to see him get a shot. Yep, he's been on quite the tear. Any type of spark plug would be welcome. Wouldn't it be nice of a minor leaguer to come up and actually deserve to stay on the roster when the guy they're replacing comes off the DL?
-
I'd give Rowand a 3 year, 18 million dollar deal. The sad thing is he's going to get a lot more money than that.

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) I am sorry if I am bringing out the capital letters retorts from you as I certainly don't mean to do that, it appears I have upset you by raining on the negativity parade. I thought this board was for expressing viewpoints, some of which may differ from those who I guess are on here every day with 30k posts saying mostly the same things. If you tell me to please stop saying something that's fine and I appreciate the courtesy of you at least saying please. In return I will have probably about two dozen things I will please ask you to stop saying, whether in capital letters or small case. Weren't you the one who said Jenks hadn't pitched in 9 days? Well, his last save appearance was then, but he had the 9th inning against Tampa on Friday. How come I have the feeling that if he had pitched 3 times in the last 6 games, you'd be praising Ozzie for not overusing him. I'll be happy to listen to anything you want me to stop staying, as long as it's an actual fact.
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) good analysis. why would buerhle want to stay on a team that gets much younger? Unless the team gets younger but also signs some veterans to get a nice mixed blend. Like if the Sox go out and sign Castillo and Rowand to go along w/ Fields, Sweeney and Owens, that would be a pretty good looking team. A lineup with Fields, Sweeney, and Owens = 4th place in the AL Central
-
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) Can we take Buerhle off the list please?? Why, he's the guy that can bring in the best value and the guy most likely to not be back this season.

Who would make a play for A-Rod now?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2007 -> 05:07 PM) Oh come on Fathom, the Yankees don't need a stud 1b, they need starting pitching, and everyone and their grandmother knows it. That's what I'm saying....why would they trade one of the best players in baseball, as well as a promising young outfielder for a RF who's going to be a FA after this year, and a 3rd baseman with back issues who's going to get very expensive soon. There's no way the Yanks will trade ARod, but if for some reason they did, they'd get back someone they could control for more than just one more season. -

Why in the world would the Yankees do that trade? If anything, they need a stud 1b right now. Also, the Yankes and interest in Contreras can't be mentioned in the same sentence.
