This just gets worse and worse. I don't know how we'd ever survive without Erstad's baseball IQ.
-
Ha, this is pathetic coaching. Way to know the situation Mackowiak. Nice to see Erstad do the job.
-
Nice to see some opposite field hits. Gotta get both runs in.
-
Toronto has some impressive reliever ERAs so far this year.
-
Another two out run. Super! This isn't even close to being entertaining anymore.
-
How many double plays is that for AJP this year? Seems like it's been about 10 in the last two weeks.

No matter how much Halladay shuts us down, remember this: Jenks is fresh tonight!

The harder we throw, the more we blow

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 31, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) If the White Sox are counting on anything from Barbaro the rest of this season, they need to go to therapy. Looks like my nickname is catching on! I'm already sick of hearing the excuses for his bad play when he returns.....and it hasn't even happened yet.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 31, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) Oh okay, so you don't use your best reliever in the most crucial situation when the leverage is highest. Thanks. And for the argument that he wouldn't be available tonight: I think avoiding the sweep against your main AL Central rival is more important than a possible save opportunity in the first game of a 4 game series against Toronto.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 31, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Look, I didn't mean to offend you Fathom. Nor was it an attack. I feel Ozzie has a target on his head when the Sox lose. I think more onus needs to be put on the players than Ozzie. Does Ozzie make mistakes...yes. But I think he has made more good moves than bad. Fair enough....we can all agree that we just want to see them win at a greater rate than they have since last year's ASB. Maybe we had been spoiled by the success of the 2005 season and the first half of 2006....but we all expect more from this organization than what we've seen.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ May 31, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) And then when Jenks gives up the winning run in his second inning of work this place will scream for Ozzie's head again. "Doesn't he know Jenks wouldn't perform well in the second inning of work!?!" I have come to the conclusion about those who hate Ozzie... If Ozzie sneezes, you say he should have coughed. He'll never do anything right. I'm shocked at this comment. Anyways, go back and read the game thread. This wasn't a case of second guessing by anyone. Also, for as long as Jenks has been with this team, I've been saying that I'd rather lose with him on the mound than anyone else. At least he makes the other team earn it. He has a history of not walking hitters in big situations and doesn't allow homers. For the usuals who keep sticking up for Ozzie at every turn, what's it going to take for you to start to question if he's the right man for this organization and where they want to go?

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ May 31, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) This thread's not about Marriotti; just Ozzie's quotes. Thanks. Yep, I haven't even read Marriotti's article. I saw the quotes Ozzie made in the AL Central thread, and it was disturbing.

QUOTE(Shadows @ May 31, 2007 -> 05:12 PM) Yes, in football when you only have 16 games you have to make the overall best decision every time or you're f***ed.. its not the same in baseball and I am not saying that doesn't mean you don't have to play to win, however, whose to say that Jenks doesn't give up a hit or a walk? How can everyone just assume Jenks comes in and shuts Hunter down? There's no way to assume he gets out Hunter. However, if Hunter does beat Jenks in that situation, Jenks is still fine for tonight. For about the 100th time, Ozzie made the right call in bringing in MacDougal to start the inning. However, once it was in the situation with bases loaded, and 2 outs, I severely disagreed with him bringing in Aardsma. Hunter has already had two huge hits against him this year, and Aardsma doesn't have the good offspeed stuff you need to fool Hunter. In the end, it's just another game that this team has blown. That falls on everyone's head.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) And then Jenks has to go a second inning, at least, and historically Jenks doesn't preform very well in that next inning. Has he even tried to go more than one inning this year? And don't forget, he would have only been facing one batter in the 9th inning no matter what. Coming in and throwing 9 warm-up pitches and 6 pitches or so to Hunter is the same as warming up in between innings in the bullpen. I just think that Ozzie needs to do his best to get MacDougal and Aardsma more action in non-pressure situations in order to get their confidence up.

QUOTE(Wedge @ May 31, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) I thought Fields was a 3B? I agree that'd actually be a good start. Out of Dye, Thome, Konerko, and Crede we probably need to get rid of 2 and replace them with some guys with at least a shred of speed on the basepaths. That makes Crede a deadman and my guess is that we'd keep Konerko and Thome out of that group. Sorry, meant to say 3b. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ May 31, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) Not to rehash the 9th inning yesterday but the fact that Nathan threw about 9 pitches in the top half of the inning and he was going to pitch the 10th and the White Sox hadn't gotten a hit in 6 plus innings lead me to believe that Guillen was being rational about the situation. If you throw Jenks for the 9th and 10th he is done for today and the chances are you have lost he and Thorton for a game today that we may have a better chance of winning. Guillen wanted to see what Aardesma could do he rolled the dice but he is rationale. The way the White Sox are hitting they most likely were not going to hit nathan yesterday. Today Jenks is ready to go if needed. I could see using him yesterday but I also could see him not using him in that situation. You play to win the game (thanks Herman). If Jenks retires Hunter, then you have our 3-4-5 coming up, and the Twins have their bottom of the order coming up in the bottom of the inning.
-
The biggest legitimate shake-up this team could make is trading Crede and bringing up Fields to play 3b.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 31, 2007 -> 04:17 PM) And I think the reality is Ozzie has to get frustrated because this is the second straight year he's managing an offense that completely doesn't fit his style (and we can argue whether his style is right or wrong, but I've said all along you got to give a manager what he likes. This is a great point. This offense, combined with how Ozzie wants to manage, is a terrible combination. That's why KW and Ozzie deserve a lot of blame for how things have fallen so fast in the last 120 games or so. As you keep saying, we need more athletes. Teams usually have athletic 2b and SS....we clearly don't.
-
Seems like he does like once a year. For someone who think they're so macho, he sure acts like a pussy sometimes. Suck it up Ozzie, and dedicate yourself to worrying more about the team on the field than making quotes off the field.
-
With the Sox facing all righty starters this series, it's time for Thome to put this team on his back again. He hasn't done much since he returned, and we face some righties with fantastic stuff these next 4 games.

The ten most important players to the future of Sox

1- Danks 2- Jenks and that's all that matters -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 31, 2007 -> 02:09 AM) Don't forget Mike Morse and Ben Davis. Morse was supposed to be the wild card in the deal but steroids quickly put an end to that. Quite a few guys in that trade who I've always believed were on the juice.

Putting This One Right Where It Belongs -- On Kenny Williams
fathom replied to Friend of Nordhagen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There's some other quotes by Ozzie where he's asking if this team would play better if he's not the manager, etc. What a tired routine. -
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 31, 2007 -> 01:54 AM) Claiming Jenks off of waivers. I knew this would be a huge move for the Sox whereas more posters just saw him as a troubled minor leaguer. I remembered seeing his Outside the Lines story. However, I was the first one on this site praying that KW would go out and acquire him.

Should have traded Haeger during the offseason, as teams were actually interested in him.
