  1. QUOTE(rafacosta @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) Oh ok, because he tried to stretch a single into a double he is now a headcase??? Let the guy play...at least he is hustling.. No, it's because he makes a lot of mental mistakes on the field, and Grace, someone who's seen him play a hell of a lot more than any of us have, made it sound like a big issue with him. Don't get me wrong, Terrero's one of my favorite guys on this team to watch right now.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) I know what you're asking yourself: Why did Terrero force the issue right there? Well I can tell you. The guy has played in 28 games this year, has gotten on base around 37% of the time, has hit 5 HR and even stolen a base but he has still yet to hit a double. He just want himself a double. There's a reason Terrero is known as a guy with a million dollar skill set and a 10 cent brain. Even Mark Grace was going off on that two weeks ago.
  3. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) And I'm guessing they are last in the league with throwing guys out. Oh yeah, and it's not even close.
  4. The Sox have to lead the league in guys thrown out on the bases.
  5. Very nice job by Thome to make contact against a tough strikeout pitcher in that situation.
  6. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 05:37 PM) that pitch to Soriano was about 6 inches outside How far was Soriano's homer?
  7. This is such an embarrassment. That's like the 6th leadoff homer we've allowed this year.
  8. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Lets hope it's not Jacque Jones. In all honesty, I'll be fine if it is him, as long as we don't give up anyone of significance.
  9. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) I agree. If the Sox do trade Garland, it better be something along the lines of Cano, Cabrera and that Kennedy kid from the Yankees for Garland and Iguchi. You don't trade Garland for a package of "prospects" (suspects). That's just not realistic at all. Cano and Cabrera are their two main offensive young guys, and Kennedy is a big time pitching prospect. You would be hard pressed to even get one of those guys for Garland, and you definitely wouldn't get Cano.
  10. I think the Mariners could be a player for Contreras.
  11. At this point, you have to DL Dye. Only the Sox could have a situation where they don't DL someone because the other person is more injured.

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) Either Erstad or Dye will be going on the DL. They are apparantly waiting for review of Erstad's MRI per the radio. Both will be on the DL by the middle of next week. It's too bad we didn't try to trade Dye two weeks ago. He has zero value now.
  13. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) today we might not lose a game... yes for rain What's the chances of a rain out?
  14. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:53 PM) Absolutely - he's got the "stuff" he's just wild. Jones is a declining free swinger who plays poor D. Even for the Cubs, he was just a filler-player. Mac was supposed to be our set-up man. Both are disappointments but Mac has more value. And to throw in a serious arm in addition? noooooo. Hell, I'd prefer Murton. Interesting note...2 years ago, Cubs were very close to trading Murton for MacDougal. That's a trade I would do, as I know the Cubs are interested in getting another righty reliever (even though they have 4 good ones right now).
  15. QUOTE(spataro51 @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) Good point FATHOM.....Lets not hope that when he does you don't get someone that will through everything they have at him to get him just to sign. But the article does give me a sigh of a little relief that if this is article is true at least there is some talking at least going on instead of nothing at all. LOCK HIM UP! I'll make the prediction that if Zambrano stays with the Cubs, the Mets will offer Buehrle in the 17 to 18 million range for 5 years.
  16. That's the most promising article I've heard yet about Buehrle. However, you have to worry that once he gets to test the market, other teams will blow us out of the water.
  17. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) Accepted. Wrong. Wrong. Guillen knew about the last two, as far as I can tell -- hard to not know about Crede's bad back and Iguchi's sore hand -- and they played not because he didn't know but because they thought they could play through and he gave them playing time. Sorry. Nope, during the first Cubs series, Ozzie was upset that Crede didn't tell him that his back was acting up. Also, Iguchi didn't tell anyone that he injured his finger sliding for a few days after it happened (not to characterize, but Japanese players are notorious for not speaking up about injuries).
  18. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) Oh, by no means am I implying that we'll sign FA solely due to Ozzie's presence. But if the manager position is in question, that works against you at the bargaining table... All I meant was that players like to play for Ozzie, and it is just an advantage, not a determinent. And I'll repeat that the only sport where a coaches/managers contract position matters when someone chooses a team is in college recruiting. I don't think free agents are backing away from signing huge deals with the Astros because Phil Garner is a prick, etc. It's all about the money with free agents, and 99 pct of the time, they don't care who the coach is. An example would be Carlos Zambrano. He'll be more likely to listen to a Sox offer due to his friendship with Ozzie....however, if a team like the Mets gives him more money than we offer, he'll go there 99 out of 100 times.
  19. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) Most players don't go crying to their managers about little injuries. It's a pride thing, and a necessity thing, and a playing time thing. Who wants to be the one to tell the manager that they've got a toe wart and a fever? s***. I don't recall any other incident where Ozzie has a player not telling him about pain except, perhaps, Freddy, but I'm sure everyone knew and that goes back to the whole Pride thing. Marte, Crede, Iguchi
  20. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:17 AM) I love how KW said" He is tired of the safe pick" yet the Sox will not draft a high talent Boras client for example just like in this years draft and Schaffer was not involved in Porada pick. Sox management is in total denial. KW wasn't involved in the Poreda pick either.
  21. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) It would be nice of Williams would pencil in a center fielder who could hit worth a damn. OH well, Erstad is a grade A hacker (check) - doesn't waste at bats by walking (check) and he doesn't disrespect Ozzie or Ozzie Jr (check); He's a true Sox, Ozzie-style. Mac Dougal is not worse than Jones, is younger and no way would we have given up 2 live arms for Jones last year. Mac Dougal for Jones this year would be a bad, bad trade for the Sox. At this point, I'd rather just keep using MacDougal for the rest of the year to see if he shows some improvement.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) 1. Ozzie pulled Buehrle because of pitch count. 2. Buehrle's not a...Burnett. He makes his starts. "Flu-like symptoms." What, is he supposed to cry to Ozzie and Ozzie's supposed to kiss his forehead? Whether or not Buehrle wasn't feeling well isn't a big deal, and the fact that he hadn't told Ozzie doesn't mean s***. It probably wasn't too serious. All I'm saying is that it seems like there's an incident every couple of weeks where our player isn't telling Ozzie about some type of injury/illness. I wonder if this goes on with every big league team, and we only find out about our guys because we follow the team so closely.
  23. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) I certainly don't have a problem with it. We're obviously going to see some changes with the personnel on the team, but I think it puts the Sox at an advantage to have the security of the manager position. Meaning, the potential newcomers don't have to wonder who they would be reporting to. It's been noted many times that players would like to play for Ozzie, so I feel this is a good move. Why not knock it out if you're planning on doing it anyway. And as said in an earlier post - Ozzie isn't the problem. Does it reallly matter when you're not going to go out and spend money in the FA market? Remember how everyone used to say every player dreamed of signing with the Cubs to play with Dusty Baker? That didn't really work out....players want the cash, and that's it.
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 03:47 AM) Why is that nice? Why is that ever nice? The only way you pick that high is if it is a trade or your team really sucked the previous year. I don't ever want my team to really suck. This is never nice. Or you can go for it and take a chance when a mega-talent like Porcello falls into your lap in the mid 20s.
  25. The only way Jones can be valuable to a team now is if he's put in CF. However, at least with the rumors today, we can guarantee he'll kick our ass today if he plays.
