  1. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) I think the main argument was that Garcia = or And like you mentioned, we never really used the savings from getting rid of Garcia in terms of bringing in free agent/trade talent money wise.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 9, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) The lineup was actually pretty good offensively last night. Stringing together hits, scrapping for contact. It was one inning aided in large part by a terrible throwing error. Yes, AJP, Iguchi, and Crede all finally put on nice contact swings. Besides that one inning though, the offense was atrocious. I agree with you though, compared to other games this season, that inning was an offensive explosion.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 9, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) With Masset on the mound, putting the winning run 4 balls away? I pitch to konerko or Dye. The way Nick sat down Cuddyer, im sure alot of people on here thought he would also sit down Morneau, he just turned on a fastball that wasnt a horrible pitch. While he did look good against Cuddyer (who's clearly not 100 pct and should have been pitched to in the 8th instead of Hunter), I don't think even the most optimistic of Sox fans liked his chances against Morneau. Masset's 93 mph inside fastball in that situation was not a good call, especially after Morneau was looking in after looking bad on an inside slider.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) He could have very well believed that with Garcia struggling to hit the 85 mph mark, that we would be better with Gavin Floyd in the rotation. If you want to discount the McCarthy trade completely, you could also say Kenny thought we would be a better team with McCarthy in the rotation over Garcia. How is either one of those a lie? Its a subjective opinion that you don't agree with. Well, Garcia is at the 90 mph mark right now, so he made a gross error in judgement if he didn't think Garcia would be healthy enough to pitch in the majors this year. When KW made the Garcia trade, he had no clue that the McCarthy trade would occur. He's even said as much. The simple point I'm making is that the Garcia trade, in regards to the people who we acquired, won't do s*** to help the team in 2007.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) So if you had Konkero or Dye of 2006 up to bat, and you had say Pods up behind them. You would pitch to Kong or Dye and not pitch to Pods. The more you think about it, the more unreal it was. Then, add in the fact about the success Jenks has had against Morneau or how much better Morneau is against righties compared to lefties, Ozzie really put Masset in a hopeless situation.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Danks is starting instead of Garcia, and to me so far at least, it is looking like the Sox are better for it. Danks has nothing to do with the Garcia trade.
  7. Nach...I like the way you try to analyze things, but remember this is Aardsma we're talking about, not Greg Maddux. If he had pinpoint control on every pitch he throws, he wouldn't have been traded twice already in his young career.
  8. The NL is such a joke. Pirates have men on 2nd and 3rd, no outs. They let a pitcher hit instead of using their last bench player.
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:23 AM) But Punto is a piranha. Nothing like our manager motivating another team. He did a better job motivating the Twins last year than he did the White Sox.
  10. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:20 AM) How many more games are going to be lost in this fashion before someone is held accountable? If Ozzie was going to pitch to Morneau, why walk him an inning earlier, and waste all those pitchers? If this means Masset and Sisco can't pitch the rest of this series, then I'm fine with that.
  11. He's had pinpoint control almost all year. He's going to make some bad pitches. It's too bad they've resulted in two big hits against the Sox. I still have doubts he can pitch in clutch situations.
  12. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:54 AM) Unless you consider clearing a spot for another starter, like Danks, who may end up being better than Garcia over the course of the season. No, he said the players he'd acquire would help the 2007 team if he traded any of our big 5 starters. The McCarthy trade was something completely different.
  13. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:12 AM) second guessing at its finest. what if there was a single to right, one could have made the argument that if dye is playing deep then on a single the runner scores from second? this argument is obviously dumb, and thus im not making it. My point is that almost everything can be second guessed. why wasnt crede playing the line in the 10th...is that ozzies fault too? The end result is that the bullpen didnt give ozzie a whole lot of flexibility tonight Who cares if the runner score from 2nd on a bloop. That run doesn't matter. Crede was guarding the line in the last inning....he just didn't react in time. Ozzie continues to be obsessed with the L/R stuff, and he's putting himself in situations where he has to rely on Logan and Masset late in the game.
  14. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:05 AM) THEY HAD A 3 RUN LEAD!!! It would be different if that game had been tied going into the 8th, then fine, i can agree with the greviances people are having. But to blame this on ozzie is dumb. So the game was over once it was tied in the 8th inning? I can't imagine how anyone could not find fault with Ozzie letting Morneau beat us. I never thought we should have pitched to Hunter in the 8th.
  15. QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:03 AM) As a pitcher it's your job to get outs. thats baseball my friend. I dont want to hear about righty or lefty matchups. The bullpen didnt get it done, plain and simple. They had a 3 run f***ing lead and couldnt hold it. In Bobbys last two outings he has put runners on to start the inning. not a good idea. Why didn't he have Dye playing deep to prevent Bartlett from getting an extra base hit? Pretty textbook managing there.
  16. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:59 AM) I was saying it in terms of expectations. I understand that we all can go to sleep knowing we have 2005 in our back pockets forever, so that will never change, but higher expectations bring bigger disappointments with each loss. The 2nd half of last season was pretty miserable. Just look at some of those threads. Not much has changed since then around here (Ozzie sucks, Pods sucks/always hurt, bullpen failing, bats cold, no backup catcher). True, but could you have imagined how bad it would have been if we made the playoffs in 2005 and didn't win it all. Then, we follow that up with the Thome/Vazquez acquisitions, and we hit the wall like we did in 2006? That would have been awful.
  17. QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:58 AM) No kidding. The Pirates got robbed. The player was safe. And I don't watch Cub games hardly.. but this is how sad I'm feeling. There's been 3 horrible calls that have all gone the Cubs way today. The Cubs also scored numerous runs this game due to Pirates outfielders misjudging fly balls.
  18. I hate the Cubs. Ryan Theriot might be the best player in the city.
  19. This Cubs game.....ugh! Every single close play is going their way.
  20. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:52 AM) Well, considering he only spent $25,000 or $50,000 on Escobar, it was a very good move...I guess it seemed better in 2004 or 05 than it seems today, because of his age and some of his struggles as well as his defensive and arm strength limitations. And that hitting thing
  21. He's not going to get fired during the season unless he says something stupid. With that in mind, I'd like everyone in the organization to be evaluated closely this year, as there's a lot of changes that will have to take place after this year.
  22. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:46 AM) Great at identifying undervalued major league players....horrible at finding AA and AAA talent, with the one exception being the slight chance he took on Bobby Jenks and picking up Jerry Owens from the Nationals for Alex Escobar. Did Jerry Owens do something I didn't see? Heck, even Escobar has had more success in the majors than Owens has.
  23. QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:44 AM) It does however make games like this that much worse. It makes it 100 times easier to take. Last year's 2nd half would have been completely miserable if we hadn't won it the year before.
  24. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) Oh God I fear how horribly KW will f*** up a firesale. Be on the lookout for any marginal AAA talent he's rumored to be scouting.
  25. QUOTE(TheOcho @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:36 AM) I really can't stand this s***. I think this is god's way of revenge for selling our souls for '05. Oh how I miss that season... I'll gladly take whatever the ramifications are for the 2005 season.
