There's that extreme baseball IQ we know and love.
-
Well, that was nice.
-
Pods is so not fast anymore. BTW, that's probably the 20th time in the last 2 months that we went thru the order in the first 3 innings without a hit.
-
Another offensive explosion the first time thru the lineup.
-
Some great hustle by Pods and Iguchi during Pudge's AB. This is going to get so comical.

Minnesota sports station plays "White Sox Funeral"
fathom replied to 3 BeWareTheNewSox 5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's kinda tasteless for the Twins supporters to be having a mock funeral for the Sox after the whole Kirby Puckett incident. Oh well...maybe Blyleven can swear during the eulogy. -
Jimmy Rollins should be KW's main target...Josh Fields could be a great chip to use to get him, as the Phillies really like him.
-
Jermaine Dye deserves a standing ovation before his last AB...Scott Podsednik deserves a standing ovation also before his last AB. Besides that, I don't care how people respond to these players.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) We have a bargain top player at a skill position, that is worth more than we would get for him. A better option is trading Fields, or converting him. Crede is better at that position than Josh will ever be, and better than most MLB 3B will be. I'd like to see us platoon Sweeney and Fields in LF, and do whatever we can to upgrade at SS, backup catcher, and get another few arms in the pen. I still stand by my prediction that we'll either sign Pierre or Lugo this offseason.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) No. And the only people making "radical" changes are the armchair GM's of soxtalk. Every Sox "insider" in the media states that there will be drastic changes to our roster.

Why couldn't Ozzie have just stuck to his word, and quit when we won the WS?
-
An article in the tribune coming out tomorrow makes it sound like KW is pissed at Ozzie and Cooper for the way the Sox pitched to Frank Thomas last weekend. Good for you KW....those guys aren't earning their paychecks this year.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:32 AM) This year has been a total waste for McCarthy. He was not used properly, and may cost him a successful career. I think he would be so much better off on a roster where Ozzie Guillen doesn't call the shots. I agree...I can only imagine how short the leash will be on him if he is a starter. Am I the only one who wouldn't be surprised if Garland is the pitcher that Ozzie wants to see traded? I still can't see him getting rid of one of his buddies.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) Thank god for Soxtalk. I couldn't imagine suffering through this tragedy of a season alone. I love all of you. I agree...this site has been great lately. Kinda like with DJ, it takes the rough stretches to bring out the best analysis on this site. I've been impressed that there haven't been too many arguments on this site lately.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:25 AM) I have never compared him to either of those guys, just making a point here(I realize you aren't calling out me). I will go say right now though that if Brandon McCarthy is in our rotation full time next year he'll have an era under 4. If someone would like to bookmark this or whatever to try and prove me wrong then go for it. 4.50 if he's in the rotation

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:24 AM) Santana? Who the hell ever did that? They should be banned immediately. Meant Liriano, sorry.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:22 AM) I wish the Twins would have taken this approach with Santana. This isn't meant for you, but people have to stop comparing McCarthy to guys like Santana, Verlander, etc. I mentioned this in the game thread, but I think it should be repeated: KW better find a way to improve our lineup against lefties next year. We've had no chance this year against Johan, C.C., and Rogers. Hell, sign Graffanino, Eduardo Perez, etc. for the bench.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:19 AM) Ah, yes, putting it in the hands of our outstanding bullpen after 6 innings each game... I'd take a fresh bullpen over a tired starting pitcher going into the 7th inning anytime. Up until about a month ago, our bullpen was pretty good this year.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:15 AM) On the topic of Ozzie and his inability to motivate the guys this year, how exactly was he supposed to motivate the pitchers into not sucking ass??? I still feel that the severe underachievements of our pitchers is the main reason for our failures this year, by far... If he would have managed the pitchers better, their ERAs would have been much improved. When you look back at this season, our starters were pretty good during the first 5 innings. However, Ozzie was far too patient with our starters this year. It worked last year, but that was when these guys were more fresh and had better velocity. There were so many times this year when a pitcher saw his stat line go from 6 innings, 2 runs to 6.1 innings, 5 runs.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:15 AM) Let the Fields lovefest begin. So does Bmac still have his name etched in stone for the 2007 rotation? Haha, I was thinking the same thing about Fields. Now, if KW trades him in the offseason, people will go nuts. I have to say though, it was an impressive homer. It's probably the most bat speed we've seen from the Sox in the month.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:10 AM) Guillen doesn't send veterans messages. That might ruin clubhouse chemistry -- or cause panic! I loved the argument earlier that Ozzie knows how to handle his veterans, and that's why he doesn't throw them under the bus like he has Anderson and McCarthy. I'm sure seeing a lot of improvement by Uribe and Pods, since Ozzie supposedly knows how to motivate them.
-
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:04 AM) Field-Sweeny-Anderson and Dye are the OF'er's next year We better upgrade our offense at SS then.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:05 AM) I have no problem at all with this idea. The starters have thrown in the towel so we might as well let the kids play. On a some what similar note, I hope everyone who goes to games from here on out boos this team like crazy. I'm usually not a big fan of booing players a ton but these guys deserved to be booed out of the park. Yep, I hate when fans start to boo players. However, the intensity level by our starters is absolutely sickening. Our fans have been there all year for them, and it's pathetic how they've responded down the stretch.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 03:00 AM) That would be sweet. Take Batting Practice Buerhle with him. Opponents hit the ball very hard against Buerhle these days. He's either hurt or washed up. I think he's hurt, as he doesn't follow-thru well enough to keep his pitches down. Something that really kills these guys is that Ozzie never, ever takes them out proactively.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) I just can't accept this. Even the '04 Cubs, a team that I thought was loaded, could play the injury card. What's this team's excuse? We were outhustled, outmanaged, and outplayed by two teams in our division. Like you said, there's no injury excuse. We've been as healthy as any team I've ever seen. Just be grateful we capitalized last year on our good fortune, and won the WS.
