  1. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) I feel that so many here WANT the White Sox to lose just so they can be proven correct. As one of the posters most notorious for pessimism on this site, I think this comment is 100 pct false.
  2. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Is he even a top 50 MLB prospect? No. He shouldn't be untouchable. This team CAN win the WS this year. If we can upgrade the team by trading him, then we should. Um, he easily will be in the top 50. Most prospect experts believe he's a top 10 offensive prospect.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:25 PM) He has an option for next season. And he's a setup man. Good to hear about the option year. I still don't see why the Padres would trade their set-up man, especially with Hoffman slumping. Fields might not be a great player in the majors, but he could be a very valuable part of our team in the next couple of years. He also gives us leverage in the Crede negotiations. I don't think adding Linebrink makes us a lot better.
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) Fields to San Diego for Linebrink + spect Garcia to the Mets for Heilman McCarthy to the rotation and suddenly I'm feeling a whole hell of a lot better about this team. I'll be sickened if we trade Fields for a middle reliever in his contract year.
  5. I'm actually optimistic about this Rangers series this wknd. We face Wasdin tomorrow, and he's the type of guy we could hit a few homers against. It will be nice for these guys to have the home crowd behind them. Basically, they have to play well the rest of the way to make the playoffs. There's no way they can play .500 ball the rest of the way, and expect to make the playoffs.
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) Interesting #'s Balta thanks for posting it. Goes to show that basically the top of the order was awful. Tigers are taking advantage of every single mistake too. Yes. I've really admired, from a baseball aspect, how they've capitalized on every opportunity they've been given this year. They believe they're going to win games, no matter what the score is in the 6th or 7th inning. Like I said the other day, if they were in the NL, I would be a fan of the team this year.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:05 PM) A Red Sox win today and they tie us. 2-7 in our last 9 games. Can we please play national league teams again?
  8. Note to KW/Ozzie: this is not the 2005 White Sox. Please make some moves to make them stronger on offense/defense/pitching. It doesn't have to be anything huge. Get Widger and Gload off this team, and add a solid back-up catcher and a 4th outfielder who's righty and can play a few OF positions like a major leaguer, and not a little leaguer.
  9. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) big series for the Tigers and they stepped up. What can you say? Leyland's a hell of a manager.
  10. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) Start looking at the wildcard race, boys. And that's what is scary. The Twins are playing so much better than we are right now.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) The Sox look like they are in a hurry to get back to Chicago. I had a terrible feeling about this game when I heard Garland tell Mike North how tired the team was and how much they were looking forward to getting home. On get-away day against a guy like Kenny Rogers, it was a recipe for disaster.
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) spiff=spiff If you type in ship except with a t at the end, it comes up spiff. That's what I figured. Is there a filter now on this site?
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) One of many annoying things that we all have to deal with I guess. Pick your poison. True, but I just don't see how it contributes to this thread.
  14. No offense to whoever started it, but this "spiff" era is quite annoying.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Fact is, this team doesnt have the chip on its shoulders like last years team. They cant execute like them, and they dont do the little things. Absolutely. It's a totally different team. It's more like the 2004 Sox than the 2005 Sox. I think I'd be content if I didn't see another bunt this whole season.
  16. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:48 PM) Farmer talking about how Crede didn't like Zumaya's celebration after the K. I'm telling you, Zumaya is the AL's Zambrano. Big deal...like someone said, if you don't like it, then hit the pitch. I wish one of our players would have shown half the enthusiasm in this series as Zumaya did.
  17. Sweet...Jenks is in for a non-save situation. That went well in New York.
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:45 PM) For all the talk about Detroit having it in their heads they can't beat the White Sox, I'm pretty sure they think they can now. Taking out Iguchi may be the Tigers defining play of the season. 2-7 against Boston, NY, and Detroit, is pretty pathetic and doesn't show me the White Sox can beat good teams. Personally, I think the Craig Monroe grand slam will be their "Joe Crede walk-off vs the Indians" moment.
  19. I'm just thankful this string of pathetic games is happening now, and not after the trade deadline.
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Don't worry. Its Widger's fault. You're missing the point. At least those guys have contributed all season. Widger has literally been worthless in his last 10 starts or so.
  21. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) remember last year we had that feeling like we never gave up...this year its how will we lose this one. The Tigers have been amazing at coming back this season. Once we blew the chance to open the game up in the 4th, we gave them all the momentum they needed.
  22. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) You can say that about a lot of people. Don't single out Widger just because he's having a bad year. I hope this is sarcasm. Widger having a bad year = doesn't belong in baseball.
  23. If this score holds up, in exactly a week after the ASB, the Twins will have made up 5 games on us. SCARY!
  24. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) WHO CARES? This isn't Widgers fault, nor is it Ozzie's. It's been a close, good game. You can't blame people for that. Actually, it would be nice to just once get some production from Widger. A hit in the 4th inning by him could have been the game.
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) Well when you dance with only scoring 1 run. What did you think was going to happen. I would like to thank Ozzie for sitting AJ today. Definately having Widger in there has given us a good spark. Unless this offense stays in the top 2 or 3 in runs scored the rest of the way, we're not making the playoffs.
