  1. If PK leaves, the Sox need to bring in a big name replacement. Manny will cost too much money. Guys like Dunn or Teixeira, or even possibly Griffey Jr., are more likely options.
  2. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) give me one reason why making a statement is more important than putting a winning product on the field. I think your mindset is extremely off and please, please, please stick to the topic. By making a statement of signing PK to a deal, you should the fans you're not just content with winning one World Series. Rather, it shows them you want to maintain the team's talent level, and won't just rest on your previous season's accomplishments. Don't forget this....JR took a lot of s*** for breaking up the Bulls dynasty. Even though that's a different situation we're talking about, I don't think he wants any questions about letting the core of his WS team leave. I know you're a young fella who hasn't lived in Chicago all your life. Maybe you should just trust what some people who have lived quite a while longer than you have and in Chicago all their life talk to you about the White Sox fan base mentality.
  3. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) ...and what Pedro Martinez wasn't extremely popular in Boston? I think the Red Sox situation last year, and the Konerko situation this year is quite similar. People move on, people forget, and if the true baseball fans such as you and I can live with the fact that Kenny Williams stood strong and made the right move, I think that in itself is a more important statement. Pedro had worn out his welcome with many in the Red Sox organization. The exact opposite is true with PK. Konerko has never been more popular in Chicago than he is today. Please, please, please stop comparing everything with the White Sox to the Red Sox. It's a complete different fan base, and completely different mindsets. Stick to talking about the Red Sox fan base, and we'll keep discussing the White Sox fan base.
  4. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) So Kenny Williams overpays for Konerko simply to make a statement to a few "dumb baseball fans" who might think poorly of the organization if they let him go? You have to make the right move and forget about statements and pleasing "dumb baseball fans" if you are not only a smart general manager, but a smart organization. Sadly, that is part of the whole PK Quandry. There are possible huge public relations consequences if PK goes elsewhere. There's more to a player than just how many homers or rbi they contribute. PK has become the common fans favorite Sox player in the last few months.
  5. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Well then Manny moves to right. That they're not going to just settle for winning the WS. After letting Ordonez, Carlos, and possibly Frank leave, they'd be bringing back the star of the organization. There's a lot of dumb baseball fans in the city that might think poorly of the organization if they don't bring back PK.
  6. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) ...but are willing to pay $15 million for a player who isn't as good? I don't want the Sox to pay 15 mil for PK, but there's a lot more that PK brings to the table than just homers and rbi like Manny. Signing PK to a big money contract would be a statement by KW.
  7. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Dye is a better outfielder than Ramirez, but if Ramirez replacing Dye makes the outfield the worst in baseball, than last years outfield defensively was one of the worst five in baseball anyways. As SSH just mentioned, Pods in RF would be a disaster. You'd basically have an outfield where two of the guys would be better off as the DH.
  8. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Manny would be added only if Konerko is not resigned. Therefore Dye would play first as has been indicated, with Podsednik moving to right, and Manny playing in left. And you'd have the worst defensive outfield in baseball.
  9. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) This coming from the person who was vying for Robert Person over Hernandez as the fifth starter, and was throwing Rowand under a bus 15 games into the season.. The bus missed Rowand when it went low and away at the last second.
  10. I think the team would get along great with Manny. I could just see Buehrle and Manny doing the whole pointing thing, etc. We're basically playing with house money right now. Why not take a chance?
  11. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) That was part of the full organizational collapse, correct? Well said. And yes, there was a loss of composure by quite a few members of the organization. Like I mentioned in a thread the other day, the whole thing turned around when Everett had his 2 rbi triple at Detroit in the 5th inning.
  12. QUOTE(kevin57 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) Pass. This team was a team because egos were in the background at best. Can anyone say with any certainty that Mr. Ramirez would park his as well? Carl Everett b****ed about where he was batting in the lineup about two weeks prior to the end of the season. The Sox were able to overcome that, weren't they? I'd take Manny on this team in a HEARTBEAT!
  13. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) If they tested positive a month ago, it is very likely the steroids were still in their system. It doesn't matter whether they were taking them at that time or not. It makes NO difference. Hell, Mike Morse has been suspended three times for the same offense, if you believe medical evidence. The steroid he admitted taking has lingered in his body for more than a year, at consistently declining levels, indication he had not continued to take them. Whether they were taking them during the playoffs or not means nothing. I just meant that it's not like the players were busy injecting the roids prior to Game 1 of the WS, etc.
  14. PK's agent was saying how great of a fit the Red Sox were for PK today.
  15. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Please be clear, I am not indicting the Sox for any wrongdoing. Nor am I putting them on a pedestal. They simply are just like everybody else. Lets just say that my belief on the Sox organization isn't just my opinion. I've been told information regarding various different organizations where handful of MLB players were steroid users. Are there players that were on the Sox in the past who were juicing? Absolutely! Were there players on the Sox this year that have juiced in the past? Absolutely! The funny thing about all of us this debate is that the Sox had to be the cleanest, in terms of steroids, team to win the WS in the last 15 years.
  16. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Where did it say the player wasn't on roids during the post-season?? That is nothing more than an assumption, unless I missed something. And even if true, that and 50 cents will just buy me a soda out of the drink machine at work on Monday. It means nothing. Considering how long the appeals process lasted in the Palmeiro case, it would seem likely that the player tested positive more than a month ago. I guarantee the players wasn't still taking the stuff if this appeals process has been going on during the playoffs. It doesn't matter though, if it happened to be a Sox player, the championship would be tarnished and that player would never be forgiven by Sox fans. Thus, I'd be stunned if they found anyway to bring him back.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) You think Pods is on roids?!?! I definitely don't think he was on the juice this season, nor do I think Rowand was on the juice this season. Were they on it last year? We'll never know, but there are ton of players around baseball who certainly have to raise some eyebrows with their drastic power differences.
  18. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) fathom, where might I ask do you come up with "the Sox' strict stance against steroids"? The Sox have been against steroids for quite a while, as I'm sure you know. After all the stuff they've gone through with not taking the tests last year, it would sure make them look like hypocrites if a starter on their World Series team got busted for it. Also, something that people aren't realizing is that it's not like these guys were on the roids during the postseason. Obviously, they tested positive for the stuff prior to the postseason. If that blogger went out of his way to mention it wasn't someone on the Sox, I feel a lot better about it.
  19. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) are you inferring that the bosox were better than anaheim this year? I think the Yankees were better than both those teams. There's no doubt in my mind though that the White Sox were the class of the AL.

Saw elsewhere that Pods is going to be on SNL tonight.
  21. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) Very classy guy, Konerko is. Yesterday was the icing on the cake. Wherever he ends up, I'm always gunna root for him. ^^^^^^^ His slam was my favorite play in Sox history.
  22. QUOTE(beck72 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) That does sound promising. As long as the sox are very close [in both years and cash--I don't see PK settling for anything less than a 5 yr deal] to other offers, I see a deal with PK happening. The sox esp. need to have him around for the next few yrs, with the pitchers all locked up. Even if they have to take a "hit" in the 4th or 5th yrs of a deal. The pressure for the Sox to sign and overpay on a deal have never been higher, IMO, with the series win, the weak free agent market and what PK has given [and will continue to give] the sox. That doesn't sound promising at all. PK is basically stating that it's likely he's going to take the highest offer. If we're going to have to give PK like 15 mil a year, I'd rather he just go elsewhere.
  23. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) Its a sigh of relief. Would be better if I saw "Carroll: Its not someone from the White Sox", but I'll take it either way I know what you mean. It doesn't mean for sure it's not, but it's a hell of a lot better than saying that it definitely could be one of the Sox players. Puts my mind at ease a little more.
  24. I'll be stunned if he's back with the Sox. If he leaves, at least he went out as a f***ing contributor to a world series winner. You can't ask for much more.
