QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) I have said this before and will say it again. I would much prefer having only 15,000 diehards in the stands than 40,000 corporate wannabefansforanightwhositontheirhandsandeatnachos. I never get back to chicago for a game, but when i listen to the games on mlb radio or tv it is louder with only 15,000. It allows the obnoxious diehards a chance to move down closer to the field and really band together. I love small crowds. And then you'd have a mediocre payroll.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) I apologize for the blanket statement. I guess I should have qualified it. The sentiment stands. There should be more than 15,000 people at these games. I definitely agree with this. Like you, I have my reasons for not going to these games this week. I don't see why some people are getting so upset that you're calling them fair weather. First, we know that these people aren't fair weather fans, and you didn't call anyone out by name on it. Next, why would anyone really care what someone says about their team affiliation? Hell, I laugh any time that people on here suggest that I root for the Sox to lose. I could care less what the attendance was if it didn't impact our payroll. Like I said earlier, we just gave JR a perfect excuse if PK leaves.
-
Neither....Duque will still be in the game.
-
Kudos to AJP for actually sticking up for the Sox fans. I don't know what PK and Buehrle were trying to prove with what they said/didn't say. Out of everyone, those two should appreciate the amount of fan support the Sox have received this year.

Anyone watching this tennis match?

Awesome match, awesome environment. I was rooting for Blake after all the s*** he's been through. -
Two things: 1) Do we know the crowds will be higher for this wknd, or is that speculation? 2) Maybe the players should step back and realize how great the fan support has been for about two months now, and realize that maybe this was just a bad series for attendance?
-
I hope I'm wrong, but I think the last few days just sealed what excuse the organization will use if we don't resign PK.
-
I wish Dusty....sorry, I meant Ozzie....and the rest of the team would shut up and play the game on the field.

QUOTE(kevin57 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:31 AM) I already have to modify my "hope" of Ozzie learning from his mistakes. I just heard on CLTV that Ozzie plans to stick with Marte "because we're going to need him in October." God help us all! What else is he going to say?
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:18 AM) Marte stuck out Ortiz in a big spot the toher day. I'm not excusing Marte, and I'd go with Cotts, but just saying. I was referring to 9th inning situations.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:17 AM) But that's what I'm saying. If he was making tons of guys and putting people in situations where they didn't succeed, we wouldn't have the best save percentage in the league. So while he's made some dumb moves, most of them have worked out. You don't have hte lowest blown save percentage by getting lucky. You have the best save percentage because of one thing: Dustin Hermanson! Thus, if it's a save situation, put his ass in the game. If you're going to warm him up with his back problem, put him in the game.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) You can get away with stupidity like that against the Royals. But against the A's, Yankees, Red Sox, Angels? I think not. He's done similar things against the Yankees, Red Sox, and Angels this year, and Marte needed to be bailed out by another reliever or the Sox offense in the next inning.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:10 AM) I almost puked when they said on the radio he was playing the percentages... If you look at the stats, chances are he's going to suck in that situation... That's my favorite post of the night.

Can I just say that we should all be happy that we won, even though Ozzie seemed clueless with the bullpen. We can only hope it might adjust the way he manages. Better to have won with bad managing than to lose with good managing. No such thing as a moral victory at this time of the season.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) 2005, which is this year .270 BAA with a .385OBP against the ol lefties. Those numbers would make him one of our best hitters.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 02:59 AM) He doesn't even have to look at the splits. Watch them pitch, it's that f'n simple. No kidding. It's real simple with Marte. The only pitch he can use effectively now is his high fastballs to righty hitters. If he throws that same pitch to a lefty, it ends up hitting/brushing back the lefty hitter. His slider against lefties is awful now, as he has to hang it to throw it for a strike.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 02:56 AM) Pm me what you were gonna say if you can... I am sick of it. You can't back up marte here and you also cannot call ozzie a bad manager? You cannot second guess ozzie or even question a move of his before it's done without getting smartass remarks from his backers ( sox best record in american league... hehe). Give me a break. He is a borderline awful in game manager... but i know... the sox are winning. I'm fairly confident even the biggest Ozzie supporters are pissed about the way he handled our bullpen tonight. The best news of the night is that we won! The next best news is hopefully this will be the end of Marte in a late game situation.
-
Ozzie's already being second guessed in the postgame conference. At least he's taking responsibility if they lose. I'm upset with Ozzie's managing...but at least we won!

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 02:47 AM) You guys are acting like he brought in Viz, who truly is a stiff. Marte has talent. That wicked curve ball. It ain't Oz's fault he must be a headcast beaning two straight guys. Viz has outpitched Marte this season. And yes, it is Ozzie's fault. No one is pressuring him to bring in Marte. It's not like we don't have a closer who's been as good as anyone this season, and one of the top lefty relievers in baseball.
-
MERCY! That's all I'm going to say.
-
Wow, two straight hangers. Make a good pitch Dustin!
-
I hope Ozuna is guarding the line.
-
WALK HIM OZZIE!
-
Just walk him now with the 2-0 count.
-
NO BALKS OR WILD PITCHES/PASSED BALLS!
