QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) I think saying whats on your mind is a good thing and I think you have always been a good poster fathom. Dosent matter is it is pessimistic or optomistic, you always have something insightful to say. right on brother. Thanks. Again, I don't want to make this about me. I just know that I pissed off a lot of people, and I want to try and help make this place better for everyone. Hell, even if the rules were changed so that only optimistic posts were allowed on this board, I would change my philosophy just so I could continue posting on this great board. BTW, I take it that we're still allowed to criticize Ozzie in game threads? Of course, without the name calling!

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) It would be nice if one of our vets on offense would stand up and call out their own and take a better approach and start to jump start this offense. We have guys who have hit before in the majors, we have guys who can hit for a while. Its time to stand up and just win this damn thing. Lets not string this along. Win the division, rest your players and get ready for the playoffs. J. Dye did on Saturday night, as he carried our offense to a victory. Problem was, he didn't play the next game. We need everyone in our offense to pick up their game, as well as our manager. It's not like it's just been one player tanking during this prolonged slump.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) Willie is back. Think he will play? YES

One thing I always respected about this site was that it was soxTALK.com, and not soxCHEERLEADING.com.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Doesn't work for me. Averaging two losses a week can be erased with one losing streak. Pitching can't score runs for our offense, which is more than capable of several three game losing streaks between now and October. Remember there still remains head to head matchup with Cleveland. Oh trust me, I still think there's a very solid chance we won't make the playoffs. However, at least there's hope that the Indians won't continue to score 7 runs a game and come back 5 times this month from deficits of 4 or more runs.

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) no we don't. There is nothing wrong with cheating (or gaining any kind of advantage) if it leads to a W. Exactly...and we've been playing awful at home lately. That was the point of my post.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:16 PM) Cleveland is still 9 back in the all-important loss column. They need to pick up roughly 2 games a week for the rest of the season to eclipse the Sox. Certainly doable, but instead of a massive collapse you're talking about a very slow and very painful one. What's going to happen in the first two weeks of September when the tribe plays Minny 6 times and Oakland 3, while the Sox are playing KC 6 times and LA 3? Do you expect the tribe to pick up 4-5 games over that stretch? Hard to picture that. Good post. That even makes a pessimist like myself confident.

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) It sounded like Mark was talking in a more joking/sarcastic manner. He was saying that it could happen and if it does then it won't happen again, but if it's not then he know that the rangers are a good hitting team. Good luck next game. I think Buehrle was being very serious when he said this.

I know a lot of people dislike me as a poster, but I think these new rules are easy to follow. I used to make fun of the Ozzie/Timo stuff, but all it took was one person to say stop it, and I did. It's not a hard concept. Since a lot of people hate the negative posts that people like myself, Milkman, and SSI make, how about just a running thread for pessimist/negative posts so that we don't upset other posters that don't want to deal with it?
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) Sure their hitting has picked up. They are playing the dregs of the AL. That is true. I just think the confidence they're gaining lately is really going to spark their offense the rest of the way. Lets hope I'm wrong, and they go back to slumping when they face the Sox, Twins, and A's.

Could we see Jerry Owens on the team in..........

All I know is that we better not just conceed the Labor Day game and play basically our minor league team. In the heat of a pennant race, that would be so foolish. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) WE'RE f***ING 10-3 AGAINST THE INDIANS THIS YEAR! How do we not match up well againt them? Just bc they are beating up on the Royals, D-Rays, and Tigers right now doesn't mean they are the best team in baseball. Because their hitting has actually woken up. Their hitters underperformed for almost the entire first half. How many games did we beat them like 2-1 or 1-0? I think we match up better against the Angels personally.
-
We don't match up very well with the Indians now. Millwood and C.C. have our number. I'd rather play the Yankees than the Indians. Of course, there's a decent chance that last series of the year could be for the AL Central pennant.

QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Yeah,I remember that. But blind optimism adside,I think McCarthy could surprise people, today.I didn't think he he be that good against the Cubs.(Ok,bad example) I think he'll do better than his last game against Rangers. However, I don't think it's realistic to expect him to give up less than 3 runs over 6 innings vs Rangers. If our offense can't score at least 5 runs, I don't expect us to win.
-
QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) McCarthy>Adkins or ANYBODY ELSE>>>Adkins Do you remember the Munoz disaster of last year?
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Besides blind optimism, I don't understand how people could think he'll go deep into a game without giving up a ton of runs. At least it's more entertaining than watching Adkins start.

Our offense has become the college basketball version of a defense-oriented college basketball team. When the game is close, we hae a great chance to win. If the other team gets out to any type of substantial lead....the game is over. We severely lack the fire power to come back from a big lead (Steve Karsay as the exception).
-
Quite simply we're in the position now that if we play .333 ball the rest of the way (I think we're 5-10 in our last 15), we're not going to make the playoffs. We still control our own destiny. Basically, we have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't make it.
-
Yeah, after not having a 4 game losing streak all year, the Sox have the chance after today to have their 2nd 4 game losing streak in a span of two weeks. I wonder how Hawk would sugar coat that? Hopefully, we sweep today, and that's not an issue. Time for Garland to step up and show he's the true ace of the staff.
-
We need to win at least one game. I have a feeling we're going to see some Sunday lineup specials, which scares me.

Lets get back to the topic please!

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) The better adjustment for Uribe would be on the bench with Pablo starting, but that is another post. When rarely have more than a few hits, having a few singles is a start. We could have used A HIT a few times with runners on last night or how about in Freddy' no hitter. You can wait for a three run homer, look at the twins the past few years. What? The Twins played for the 3 run homer you suggest? You couldn't be more further from the truth with that. If Ozuna was our starting SS all season, he'd have 30 errors and probably end up batting around where Uribe will finish off batting, with no extra base power. And BTW....Gload had his chances this season, and didn't impress. He choked in that KC game with the error....no other way to desribe it.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) If Gload hit .270, the only person in our line up better would be Iguchi. I am just suggesting that we try something different to get a spark. If we fail, it is not like we can make the offense worse. I don't care if he hit .270 if it's all singles. What this team needs is offensive production, not a worthless 2 out single down 7-2. What we should be doing is shaking up the lineup. I did like the adjustment Uribe seemed to be making with his stance. It's about time he tried something new.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Well we have not exactly been a winning team lately, have we? You're preaching to the choir about that. No one on this site thinks we need an offensive upgrade more than I do. However, you make it seem like Gload is guaranteed to bat .370 for the Sox and get a clutch hit every AB.
