QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) That was a solid first inning. Looked like the Red Sox and Yankees last week. They made the pitcher work. Sure they didn't score, but they saw a ton of pitches, and limitted how deep he can go in today's game. Of course now, Lohse will now use 45 pitches to record the next 24 outs as the Twins win 1-0. We have a much better chance at getting to Lohse than we do the Twins bullpen.

QUOTE(WhiteSox311 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) That play make me sad in pants. It wasn't a bad play. It was actually smart, as we tried to avoid the PK DP that was just as likely to happen if he hit the ball on the ground. It was just something that happens when a ball is blooped on the infield like that.

Also, as someone mentioned earlier: If Pods did get hurt before the ASB, and we knew it was likely that we'd DL him sometime in the 2nd half of the season, why not either A) get Willie playing time in the minors in LF or B) acquire a back-up outfielder? Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel this Twins series is actually very important. If we go out and get swept by them, then we give the Twins a lot of momentum and confidence that they're still in this race.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) So much for us finishing with the best record in the AL this year. With only a 6 game cushion, I see Boston or Anaheim passing us by season's end. I don't think calling up Willie to play LF would be the reason for this. We've had some major offensive issues even before the slap master gets placed in LF. I even question if Pods is really hurt right now. To me, it seems like we're just resting him, and we're trying to make the injury sound worse than it is in order to have an excuse to DL him. To me, the reason for Podsednik's struggles lately didn't seem physical. He was playing some of the most aggressive defense he's ever played. However, a groin injury isn't the cause of taking called 3rd strike after called 3rd strike. It just seems like we're taking the foot off of the accelerator way too early.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:08 AM) I'd rather have Griffey than Borchard B) He's old though. He has to be over 50 years old now!

If KW was smart, he'd get an answer from the Reds ownership on whether or not they'll even trade Griffey Jr. If they say no, then he needs to move on instead of trying to push them to make the trade. There are potentially other players available that can help this team, and coincidentally, we have a huge hole in LF for the next few weeks.
-
I'd rather have Joe Borchard in the outfield than Willie Harris.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 05:59 AM) He's a very smart defensive player and is perfectly capable of playing the OF. Sure he'll get himself into a few jams, but his speed will bail him out on jumps. Its not like Timo or Pods are any good out there anyway. From my point of view, Willie Harris has absolutely no baseball instincts. Considering he's a below average offensive contributor, there's no reason to put him in the outfield if he's below average in the field. You know how much I hate Timo, and it scares me to say that he's a better option at this point. I just hope Ozzie doesn't get so concerned about the leadoff spot.

With Radke and Santana going on Tues/Wed., this is a big game for the Sox to win. Anything but a sweep against us is acceptable at this point in the season.

I don't think we should put Hermanson on the DL until the end of August. Then, we can promote 2 or 3 relievers with the September call-ups. Maybe it's just me, but I don't like the idea of just shutting down players like Pods and Hermanson while the division has still not been clinched. There's no better way to have a prolonged slump than to blow leads late in a game. If you DL Hermanson, you alter the entire bullpen.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 05:18 AM) Again, it makes too much sense for it not to happen. Therefore it won't happen. The problem right now is that everyone's just repeating the same story from two weeks ago. I watched the CLTV segment, and no one had any new information. Rather, for some reason, everyone thinks just cause Griffey Jr. cleared waivers, it's a given he'll get traded for the Sox. There hasn't been one ounce of information that suggests the Reds want to trade KG Jr.

It seems like the decision to DL Pods has been looming for a while. Why not play Harris in LF in the minors then?
-
QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 04:39 AM) I think he'll go platoon because neither is going to hit .400 (or even .250 probably), meaning he'll try to get them favorable matchups. Then you have to play the guy who can play defense better. Sadly, that's Timo in this case.

We're playing the Twins and Yankees, and we're considering putting a well below average player at a position he's never played before? There has got to be a better option!

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) Bring up Anderson and make this the lineup. Iguchi Rowand Everett Konerko Pierzysnki Dye Crede Anderson Uribe Looks a helluva lot better to me than having a mental midget like Willie Harris in the lineup. I was going to post the same thing. The last thing we need on this team is another just terrible hitter like Willie Harris.
-
QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) Harris may get called up, and will get some starts in LF, but I don't think he'd become a regular out there while Pods' is injured - I think Guillen would basically platoon and work in Timo Perez, Harris, and Pablo out there. That's going to make me sleep better at night :headshake

QUOTE(WhiteSoxAaron! @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:41 AM) f*** yes, we can cuss. I love this f***ing place f*** wsi, ok had to say that. hahahahahahahahahaha You could at least say earmuffs!

QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:40 AM) My point being that I'm not sure it was breaking news either time - both stations just like to give the impression that their reporters are getting the story first, even if, like in this case, there really isn't a story. Offman seemed to be the first one who said it. Even Gammons today credited a Chicago radio station as saying that Griffey had cleared waivers.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) This is a focking dumb move. Wee Wee Willie cant hit. And dont give us last years stats. Last year means nothing this year. If he batted 400 last year and then 170 this year, he still sucks this year. Wee Willie cant steal either. I understand the entire chemistry thing, but come on. Let Anderson give us a shot in the arm. Lets see what the kid will do. Just when you thought they made enough dumb decisions, Timo at DH, Timo at 1st, Timo leading off. They decide to bring up "Its my time now" FOCKING STUPID I just don't get our mentality right now. Ozzie sure seems concerned about not bringing in any new blood. In reality, I think the thing our team really could use is a boost from someone new.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:33 AM) Guys almost everyone in the media reported that Vizquel was headed to the Sox this november. Bruce was not the only one. I'm not sure why everyone hates him. Find me the last time he was right on any trade? Considering it's his profession, he sure doesn't have a very good grasp of the baseball industry. He should be known as Captain Obvious.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:32 AM) Let's just hope that Kenny Williams can find a way to upgrade the team further before August 31st whether it be Griffey Jr. (beware of all the rumors that keep coming up - if something happens, great!, otherwise, carry on, there's nothing to see here) or some other upgrade. Yep, and I really hope KW doesn't think Willie Harris is a logical option to replace Pods in LF!
