No offense taken. I agree with most of what you state. To a large degree, and this will be unpopular to the antiTony crowd, I think LaRussa has done a pretty good job of playing matchups. Some of the reasons backups have some decent numbers to invoke is because they have been put in good matchups. I was surprised Lamb wasn't in last night.

I worry about bench guys being overexposed with prolonged playing time. there was a reason guys were backups. The injury issues also show up where Grandal and Eaton have played hurt when a IL stint might have helped them individually but the team is so banged up they couldn't take the time off. Now you are getting bigger drop offs to the new backups so starters at risk for not getting rest. Our pitching has been the key to keeping us in every game even when lineups look weaker. We really need our starting pitching to hold up. Our minor league starting pitching needs to step up. Lopez looks lost, Stiever, Lambert etc need to get rolling. All our next wave of pitching youngsters at A are really struggling.

I hope Yermin is doing all the little things and big things that got him this opportunity. I hope one successful month didn’t get him caught up in his own hype with sandwiches, yerminator, haircut etc. hopefully he’s just in a slump and will snap out of it.

I think a couple posters have raised good points. I had the offseason plan a couple years ago highlighted with Grandal as being a great fit for our team. Sure there are times he has frustrated me but I give him credit for gutting the knee out when we really couldn’t afford another guy to go on the IL. Probably didn’t talk about it to not help the opposition. The walk rate might have been his way to still contribute something or not give away injury further. Wonder if a sleeve or brace might have helped though might have made catching harder. Agree liking Grandal doesn’t mean u can’t like or pull for McCann . He was good for us and by all accounts a great teammate . Jose does have streaks but sometimes I think his biggest problem is trying to do to much especially when other guys are out/struggling

The cancelation wasn't known at the time of the decision. We won the game. Lynn will be on normal rest after a light game which theoretically should help down the road.

Well on a good note, Lynn doesn't go on short rest.

With the layoff and youth, I think second half splits may be more of a barometer. Tough cause some guys may also tire out. Just hope some guys show growth for systems overall benefit.

I want guys good at baseball not just athletes but I want them capable of playing/staying at premium positions. So, I want more up the middle guys than corners. Not necessarily in the first but you never have enough catchers.

Lambert out after 1 2/3 and 41 pitches . Hopefully planned

Might make sense vs lefties but I think it would require Anderson bringing it up.
