QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) I've read that he's thirty seven, not "over forty one" and 35-38 seems about right to me. He's listed at 35 so I'd say 35-38 is on the low side.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 25, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) If they keep Dye around by signing him to a long-term extension, that's probably going to cost $15 million a season (roughly) so I'd be surprised if they wanted to offer something similar, or in the $10-15 range for Ichiro when Williams, I'm thinking, is more likely to bargain shop or look to improve via trade should the offense need outside help next offseason. Also, I'm not sure that the White Sox are going to have tons of money to spend - Don't they have to lock up Jenks soon enough as well as make decisions on Buerhle, and eventually Garland/Vasquez ? I guess we'll see, but, hopefully, Kenny will have flexibiiltiy to make moves and add some payroll. Jenks won't be an issue until 2011 and even then there's still a 50/50 chance he breaks down before then and the Sox don't even have to worry about paying him big money.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) I could fully believe Mark Buehrle would pitch for St. Louis in 2008. 2007...there would have to be something the White Sox would want for the Cardinals. And I still will not do Wainright + Reyes for Mark Buehrle (let alone the fact we'd need another 40 man spot). I make one damn post all day and I can't even get the year right.
-
I'll bet anyone 50 bucks right now that Mark Buehrle will not pitch for the Cardinals in 2008. If Mark ever pitches for St. Louis is will be at the tail end of his career, not during his prime.

Runelvys Hernandez isn't even good enough to crack Charlotte's rotation.

Huff is also a complete butcher in the field wherever he plays.
-
Huff is supposedly looking for a little more than $7M per over 3 years.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Well to some extent though the things that made him so great probably played a big part in his recent injury history. Banging into those walls and flying around on the turf in the Kingdome had to do a number on Griffey's legs, and then he was moved to a place with no DH after years of that pounding. Hell, in probably the greatest play he made during his career he actually broke his wrist.

Shannon Stewart is basically done and should never even be considered for an OF spot.
-
The Sox traded Javier Lopez for him. Not exactly a loss you'd morn.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) is Thome gonna be the back up first baseman now? Mackowiak is perfectly capable of playing 1B if need be.
-
Craig can not play CF so who's Anderson's backup? The Sox have no open spots on the 40 right now so someone would have to be outrighted or released in order to bring someone in from free agency.

He's also going to be a joke in LF.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) AKA awesome. If it weren't for their fans I could maybe see myself cheering for them.

I got the Colts. In other words . . . way off.

There's a reason why Erstad's phone hasn't been ringing this offseason, he's a pretty horrible offensive player (as much as I dislike Pods, Scott has the superior bat), he can't stay healthy to save his life, has gotten very old very quick and has seen his OF defense diminish quite a bit because of injury and age. If you're looking for a bat to platoon with BA/Pods he is not the answer and if you're looking for an above average defensive 4th OF he's not the answer (Terrero is probably a better solution).

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Well, I'd say Contreras fell back because of injury, not Coop's coaching. And the difference between Cotts/Loaiza and Thornton is that Matt throws 97 mph, which is something that's always gonna be hard to hit coming from a lefty. Also, we'll start this year with MacDougal in the pen. He was only there for half the season in 2006. I really do wish that KW would get another quality reliever before the season starts, though. Plus, not having Cliff Politte should improve the pen greatly, no matter how terrible he was last year Ozzie just could not wait to throw him back out there in pressure situations.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) Cleveland is the team I worry about the most. They actually scored more runs and gave up less than the White Sox in 2006. I think they are ready to be very good again. They still don't have a bullpen.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Do you agree with me the 86 runs scored is acceptable? No. It's pretty horrible, 86 runs put him 69th in all of baseball last year which is pathetic for the leadoff hitter of one of the best offenses in baseball and hitting in front of 3 guys who knocked in 100 runs last season. Hell even Iguchi scored 97 runs last year.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta has now been released. I downloaded it this morning and I've been screwing around with it basically all day, it is beyond awesome.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) I love some of these offers...reminds me of my fantasy football league. We have one guy who makes these type of offers You give me LaDainian Tomlinson and Ill give you Sammy Morris, Bo Scaife, Sammie Parker, the Cardinals defense, and I'll even throw in Brandon Lloyd. Wait, are you telling me Jerry Owens isn't considered a big time prospect? That Sean Tracey, Arnie Munoz and Casey Rogowski won't bring me big time talent in return?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) I dont know. I would think maybe a decent spec or a back of the rotation guy. He had a half-way breakout season last year, but isnt quite a Wells type player that you will overpay for. He has 4 cheap years ahead of him, will be 26 years old next year and has major upside. Why the hell would they trade him for a league average to below average pitcher (back of the rotation guy) or a prospect like Broadway (who is decent)? That makes no sense. If Ricardi is even a halfway decent GM he won't let Rios go for anything less than a top 5-10 pitching prospect in all of baseball to start.
-
I don't think they're talking 4th starter in the conventional sense but rather someone to pitch behind Halladay, Burnett and Chacin. So they don't mean an average pitcher but rather a pitcher to plug into the 4th spot in their rotation. I don't see any reason why the Jays would deal him for anything less than a young, stud, MLB-Ready starter.
-
It's going to cost BMac to start so no, Rios will not be playing for the Sox next season.
