IMO Huff - Proven hitter. Can play 3B/1B/OF/DH. Left handed power. Huge upgrade over Carl Everett. Baez - meh, I don't like him as much as most people do. I wouldn't give up anything of substance for him which would mean most likely not getting him at all. Lugo - no

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) Over/Under on how many speculationn trade threads will be made in the next 14 hours? I'll put the line at 4....any takers? Don't be an ass. The Sox WILL make atleast one trade.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 11:45 PM) I don't see us trading for anyone. Not even Mackowiak. I definately don't see this team doing anything major. Jayson Stark said that we made one last huge push for Schmidt, but the Giants don't want to trade him. Eh well. I gaurantee that the Sox make atleast one trade between now and the deadline.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:26 PM) Did you know Joe Crede has no middle name? True story. ...

Ron Karkovice's jock strap.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) How about something about the White Sox being 13.5 games up on second place Minnesota? and 32 games over .500

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Would Aubrey Huff put the Sox over the top though? Depends on what you mean by "over the top". The Sox currently are 32 games over .500 and have 67 wins at the end of July. Huff would make the team much better by adding his bat to the lineup, he's a lefty with a great power stroke and can hit for average. Huff would be a great acquisition but to put a team "over the top" I just don't know WTF that means.

QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) I'm ruling out a Trade for Overbay. It could happen in the offseason, but not before the Trade deadline. I can guarantee that. Do you live in Wisconsin and/or a Brewer fan? The only time I ever see you jump in is when someone says the name Overbay?
-
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) I agree with all these things. That was just something I picked up on. I DEFINITELY am hoping a trade for Overbay can be made now or in the off-season but I just don't see it happening before the deadline. IN the offseason, I'd LOOVE for KW to get him here. Crede definitely will be here next year, I agree but is seems KW is looking for people to back him up or give him some time off. To me, I can care less, I like Joe. Clark was just I name I threw in because I saw it in another thread. What makes you so sure we will not get Lowell? I don't see the sox making a trade JUST for Mike Lowell and since Burnett isn't getting traded, most likely the Sox will have no interest. The only reason the Sox showed any interest in Lowell was becaues of Burnett. He would have been a nice pickup to go along in any Burnett trade but by himself, it's just not intrigueing.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) Im thinking KW is looking past this season with these trades. It seems as if he is targeting players who can take over for Crede and PK. These include, but are not limited to, Overbay, Huff, Mackowiak, Lowell, and Clark. Clearly, PK is gone at the end of the season. I REALLY would have loved Overbay here but it is not going to happen. I can only hope KW does the smart thing tomorrow. 1.) Crede will be here next year. 2.) Huff is not an everday 3Bman (though he is an everday 1B/DH). 3.) Mack should not be an everday 3Bman. 4.) There has been no talk of Tony Clark comming to the Sox other than speculation from people here. He would be a s***ty fill in for Konerko after he walks. 5.) Don't rule out an Overbay trade just yet, plus a trade for him in the offseason should not be ruled out. 6.) I gaurentee we don't get Lowell.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Jim or TQ, I'm all for getting Huff, but where do you guys see him playing? Do you think he'd be splitting time with Carl? I see Huff taking over the full-time DH spot and Everett going back to his old role as OF/DH sub. Plus Huff can play some OF and give those guys a break not to mention resting Konerko at 1B.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) yeah and what is he doing this year. Look Tracey, Sweeny, and another prospect however Chuck LaMar has a history of asking for the moon. Huff can't play defense because he is a BUTCHER with the glove. Sweeny is the number 3 prospect on the sox however to ask for Anderson, McCarthy, and maybe young is BS. Look it has to be a fair deal for both sides however all LaMar is doing is asking for the moon. Who said the D-rays want 2 OFers from the Sox, they have enough OF prospects as is, they'd only want 1 tops in this deal, did you even read the blurb:

I can see the 86 pitch complete game shutout coming already! *note the absence of green as opposed to the post above.

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) huff is the man and so is baez Baez is not the man, he's a decent bullpen arm, not the man. Eddie G. is the f***ing man.

QUOTE(Cali @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) Wasn't Mackowiac a big White Sox fan growing up? I thought I remembered reading that. I know he was born in Oak Lawn Yeah, I'm pretty sure he was. All that will do is either make him extremely nervous and suck ass on the Sox or encourage and pump him up and he'll be even better than he has been in the past. Or maybe it will have no effect. *pointless post*

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) They are both good players but your f***ing best pitching prospect for a GOOD player. I could understand if it was a guy like Burnett or Schmidt or maybe even Griffey but for Huff and Baez. You gotta be kidding me. It should only take Tracy and maybe a mid level prospect to get one of those guys. f*** you Chuck LaMar, no wonder they have a bad team. Where do you get this s*** from? Huff is a GOOD player? You're high, Huff is a potential 30/100/.300 875+ OPS guy considering how he's already done it once in his career and came damn close last season. That is not a good player that is a special player. Players like Huff are hard to find, Tracey + a mid level spect will not get it done. Take a look at Huff's '03 and '04 numbers then tell me he's just a good player.

I seriously like Mack, he would be a great guy off the bench who can play 8 different positions for us in a pinch. You can't argue that Mack >>>> Willie, this would be a fine move.
-
Good, now there's no chance of the Sox picking him up incase they trade Marte.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) To get his ERA under 4.00 [now at 3.99] for a possible trade

There's no way in hell I'm reading all of that, must you type so damn much?

Guardado (2005): 35 G, 35 IP, 23/24 SVO, 26 H, 6 ER, 8 BB, 31 SO, 1.54 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, .202 BAA I  Eddie Guardado.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 03:37 AM) I'd deal Fields for Guardado in a heartbeat (the 3rd baseman), but the Mariners won't want him. [beltre rant] Yeah they have a 3rd baseman right now who's currently making almost $1M per HR. $10M this year plus that nice juicy $7M signing bonus for 12 HRs, gotta love it. Hell, they're stuck with him for the next 5 years, remember you always want to give a player who has a career year (49 HRs) big money in a 5 year contract, have fun with that one.[/beltre rant]

BLOCKBUSTER!!! Yankees acquired second baseman Joe Thurston from the Dodgers for a player to be named. Thurston looked like a long-term regular when he hit .334/.372/.506 for Triple-A Las Vegas as a 22-year-old in 2002, but he's gone backwards every year since and was hitting .288/.326/.412 for Las Vegas this season. That he's outperformed Tony Womack this year doesn't make him a major leaguer. He'll almost surely be assigned to Triple-A Columbus. Jul. 30 - 3:24 am et

I Eddie Gaurdado. If KW picks up Gaurdado and Huff/Overbay I'll dance the happy dance.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) I am very stumped as to why Wagner is considering retiring after this season. 34 is still quite young and he is still a top reliever. I would like him on the Sox very much. Hopefully, he'd re-sign instead of re-tiring. He doesn't neceassarily want to retire after this year but maybe 2 years down the road he'd like to call it quits. Oh Yeah and Shaq want's to be a cop.
