  1. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) From credible sources? The same credible source that had to issue an embarressing public apology and still may get sued by Helton because of what he said? If you still believe that he was on steroids after what happened to that dumb ass announcer in the beginning of the year then you are a fool. That dumb f*** from the St Lous broadcasting team is not a credible source, I'm talking about people that I happen to talk to who know him. That's it.
  2. Why keep Sweeney. His value is high and I for one am not sold on him at all, but that's besides the point. Huff and Overbay, two players you did not mention but were possibly eluding to are not mediocre players. If McCarthy is what it takes to land a player like that I'd go for it. Both would be around for years to come and are just about gauranteed to be productive over that time. As much as I like McCarthy and I have defended him a lot (just go back to that Contreras thread) he is no gaurentee, a player such as Overbay or Huff on the other hand are much more of a gaurentee to help out in the long run than a prospect such as McCarthy. My Untouchable: Young and Jenks, that is all.
  3. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Helton didn't do steroids. And if you're going to say "Look at this year!" as an example, look at this months splits. Actually I'm not going by stats, I'm going by personal feelings and what I've heard from credible sources.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Thank you Kalapse. You expanded what we both thought with some hard numbers to back it up. I was just being lazy and trying to get out of work It's what I do.
  5. QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:57 PM) Crede>Huff (this season) what's the point? Huff's HR & OPS dropped since 2003.... just like Lowell's.... HMMMMMMMM Do you even know who Aubrey Huff is? I bet you didn't know that Huff is batting .311 in July with 7 HRs and 21 RBIs, oh yeah that's a .958 OPS for the month, for one of the worst teams in baseball. Many people (mainly GMs) have said that Huff's production dropped at the beginning of this seson due to a lack of motivation, he's board in Tampa, he's 28 and has never had anything to play for. Huff is a 30/100/.300 player, don't ever compare him to Crede offensively ever again.
  6. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Todd Helton? G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG 2005 96 344 48 101 25 1 11 43 161 65 60 2 0 .414 .468 .294 I know he's hurt right now but he expects to be back soon. With the Rockies shedding players like its going out of style, would this ever work for the Sox? NO!, steroids + Coors = a very good hitter. He has a nice big juicy contract too. Huffenmeister, Overbay.
  7. QUOTE(Yoda @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Anyone mention that Jim Hendry is seriously interested in trading for Soriano? He's willing to give up Correy Patterson. Why wouldn't he be willing to give him up, he has little trade value right now and it makes NO sense for the Rangers to want him in any trade as any more than a throw in for any deal they make with the Cubs.
  8. His contract runs through 2025, no thanks.
  9. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 03:11 PM) Everybody might piss and moan about it....but hell...why not. What would it take? You've got guys like: PK: $8.75M Contreras: $8.5M ARow: $2M Frank: $8M (not trading...but a wash because with Manny, Franks not back next year) I'd give up BMac....but no way Anderson or Sweeney go anywhere. It'd almost make sense to include ARow in the deal somehow and move Pods to center. The Sox have some ammunition to pull some deals...but personally...I'd take Manny in a heartbeat. That is unless the Sox are sitting back hoping to resign CLee this offseason (should be in green...but I'm lazy). Bottom line...the Sox desparately need some pop in the lineup. ok...blast away. It would take more than BMac and Arow to get a deal done, maybe throw in a in Marte and maybe 1 or 2 more good prospects. There is no way in hell I would ever put Manny in LF for this White Sox team, then you weaken CF with Pods out there and his wonderful jumps :puke, and have Manny Ramirez in LF who is widely considered THE worst defensive OF in baseball. Manny's contract is f***ing ridiculous and would hamper the team for the next 3 seasons atleast. Besides you can have him for nothing in the Offseason when he's put back on waivers.
  10. We have what like 3 active Manny trade threads.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:58 PM) I think we all agree that we can't rely on Carl to be the dh, correct?? I just think we differ in opinion on how good Frank was. He started off fine imo but just kept getting worse and worse. To many k's in big situations when we needed to get a runner in from 3rd with less then 2 outs. Frank just wasn't that good imo no matter what his ops was. My sentiments exactly.
  12. Read the whole post, I don't like the of Carl as the everyday DH either though he has been ridiculously clutch this season.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Thanks Doc. Damn it. Beat me by like 2 seconds.
  14. QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) In the games he played, Frank was the most valuable bat on the team, period. Take a look at MLVr, which is a Baseball Prospectus stat that means, basically, the number of runs contributed above what the league average player would contribute, per game: Derrek Lee (for comparison, as the league leader in the category): .682 runs per game Frank Thomas (White Sox team leader): .119 runs per game Jermaine Dye: .093 Paul Konerko: .089 Carl Everett: -.034 That means that, per game, Everett was worse than the league average player, while Frank was much better. I really don't give a s*** what stat you throw out there from Baseball Prospectus, I've watched every Sox game this season and I've seen a Frank Thomas that hits a HR, K's or walks and when he walks he's not necessarily helping things seeing how he's laboring around the bases. I saw him on numerous occations have Pods on 3rd with 1 out and fail to bring him in. He was horrible at the small things. Sure he'd hit a HR after striking out in his first 2 ABs and then go ahead and pop out in his final AB and that was great, gotta love his HRs. But Frank was not contributing the way that this team needed him to. When he first got back for like the first 2 weeks, he did contribute and helped us build up a giant lead in the division but he fell off. I don't care what stats you wanna throw at me, I know what I saw. EDIT: I'm not confortable with Everett as teh everday DH either, a move for a guy like Huff is necessary.
  15. QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) So...I wonder when Huff will hit his first sox HR.... August 2nd, 4th inning. 2nd AB at home in a Sox uni.
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) I'm iffy about adding a countdown clock because it's one more thing to f*** up the site. I dunno, it's a possibility. God knows that's the last thing needed.
  17. QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) That's ignorant. He has been more productive in terms of cumulative stats, sure, but he's also played in 46 more games than Frank. As far as overall, per game production, Frank has been the far superior player. Frank hit a s*** load of HRs in a small amount of time but also struck out a lot and failed to get the runner over in crucial situations. He was all or nothing in his time back. He contributed but not as much as people think he did.
  18. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) aight I dont know if I am going to be able to hear any of the show after I get off at 5:00 cause I am driving up to Michigan but if anyone hears this read let me know. Email to MJH The Sox most likely were going to announce this anyway, I don't think blaming Bruce Levine is exactly fair. Plus, I don't really think the price went up, we still have Everett who has actually been more productive than Frank this season.
  19. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) You just like it when the peanuts pass Uranus. It's like you hit a new low everyday.
  20. QUOTE(Da Sox @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) Will Frank get a ring if we win it all? YES!! No f***ing question, he's still gonna be on the team and he's not Terry Glenn.
  21. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) No gonna happen..... but I would sell the farm for this guy You'd sell the farm for a 32 year old DH with a horribly bad back and a $12.5M salary?
  22. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Has the KC GM (Baird) actually said that the Royals won't be moving him or is just your take? They said he's not leaving KC, they got a great offer from the Angel's and turned it down I think it involved Kotchman. Besides there's no way in hell they'd trade him within the division to the White Sox.
  23. His OPS is .910 .263 BA with a .403 OBP + a .507 SLUG He's walked 63 times. Has 18 HRs, 38 RIBIs, 65 Runs but only 8 doubles. And he doesn't have much spead at all, not to mention the fact that this is a career year at the age of 31. Give me Huff or Overbay.
  24. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) He certainly was part of it though. He certainly made this team better for the time he was here. However, I'm glad that we don't have to rely on just Frank anymore. The White Sox are now a good TEAM. This is a serious question. Are you crying right now? If not crying do you have tears in your eyes?
  25. From last month: QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) WHEN he is voted into the HOF I will be there for the ceremony, I gaurentee that. I will find a way to fly out to Cooperstown. I've watched this guy play my entire life, he's been my favorite ball player for as long as I can remember and that moment when he is recognized for his accomplishments I will be there to share in the moment.
