  1. I wonder if Jesse Jackson Jr. Is amazed that he can hide out in another state taking a few months off, not campaign and destroy his opponent. Sad.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 12:56 AM) Finally. Somebody answers each of my points! Thank you! Is Q only 20? Really? Quintana? Much younger than I thought. I don't care about popularity. I'm loyal to Ozzie for what he did for me (Sox). He made my happy in 2005, mighty happy. So let me get the basis of your "Greg logic" Team does good, wins division or WS = Ozzie is a magician and he motivated the team and is the sole reason the team won. Couldn't be replicated by another manager. Team does bad, loses division = The damn GM, Owner, Coop, weather, and other excuses were the reason that the team lost. If Ozzie couldn't win, no one could. 2+2=7 in your world. Whatever you are employing as logic does not work. It is just a mancrush on a manager. Just admit it and we can move on. I am a fan of the WhiteSox, not a manager or a player.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) I wasn't really referring to his point about the difference between iPads. Earlier in his post, he basically said that you should get what fits for you and not care about the specs. I feel like almost every consumer needs to be educated on what the hell they're buying, all the way down to the internals. Many won't understand and that's just too bad. We're talking about a pretty big investment whenever we buy a new tablet, phone, or PC. And you never know what you will run into with whatever piece of technology you own. How do I know I won't be doing video processing on my PC in 1 or 2 years? How do I know I won't be doing CAD or SolidWorks in the future? How do I know I won't be playing intense games in the future? I don't want to have to buy something new just for these things in the future. I'd rather invest in something better right now. Anyways, my initial post was about how bad the iPad Mini and Nexus 7 comparison was. Apple decided to say bigger screen = better, even though it had a lower resolution and both screens pretty much showed the same thing. What you are talking about is the Best Buy sales mentality. Here Grandma and Grandpa, I know you need to surf the net and write emails to your grandkids but just in case you want to run a Hadoop cluster in your house you should buy this silly balls to the wall hardware that you probably are never going to use in the first place. You look at major operating system releases as the cornerstone of how to size most consumer environments. What is the recommended hardware ( not minimum ) + whatever main line office they are running and bump it a bit. What is the nature of how I am going to primarily use the device. Sure you dont know what your requirements are going to be, but in reality most consumers are not going to start changing their processing requirements. Gamers and other high end users usually police themselves and select hardware already based on their requirements and then some. I remember sitting in a DC with Compaq Proliant 7ks years ago. They were 4 way boxes and had a silly amount of RAM. The application however ran like a pig. So when we took a look we saw only one of the processors being pegged. It was a small section of 16 bit code that was in this 32bit software package. It couldnt run at the time on an SMP box. So in the end, buying all of that hardware did us bunk, when we needed to have the manufacturer fix their crappy software. its more of the same today. There are some well written apps that run just fine on hardware. There are some crappy apps that run crappy no matter what OS or hardware you throw it on. Some of these apps attempt to point at hardware as a solution to fix their bad programming processes. In the end for the normal consumer you make a decent selection at the time based on standards and you should be good.
  4. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 24, 2012 -> 07:16 AM) Aside from most graphically intense of games and video editing, modern software doesn't come close to stressing processors unless somethings wrong with the application, especially when it comes to discussing tablets. A lot of people still have iPad2's, because they can still browse the web and read email just fine...which is what 99% of the world uses tablets for. I would say if there is something on most computer systems that needs to catch up its IO throughput and avoiding spindle contention. This is why SSDs and hybrid drives are going to make more of an performance impact than the one notch up processor. This however doesn't apply really with tablets as they are not as IO bound.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) I'm going to have to make a "to get" list when I'm back in IL over the Christmas holiday where the pickin's are pretty good. Here in TN that's not so much the case. Really enjoying the locally brewed Yazoo Hefeweizen (favorite style of beer already) that was recommended to me already ITT. Awesome alternative to what had previously been my favorite in this style, Franziskaner (unfortunately owned by AB InBev). I will probably stick with the Yazoo indefinitely for this style. I also got a sixer of this even more local (Memphis) brew, Ghost River. Probably a bit more forgettable, honestly. Their best brew is one they don't bottle at this point, an amber ale. This one is a Kolsch. Glad you liked the Yazoo Hefenweizen. That reminds me, I have to restock my fridge at home. Luckily I travel to Nashville enough for work.
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 23, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) It's not a disagreement. Especially because you are spot on your argument. It used to be that software was ahead of hardware. Now its the opposite.
  7. I look forward to more links from the Onion from the Apple anti-fan club today.
  8. Hopefully this offseason is about addressing the Offensive Line. We finally have the weapons and we have an offensive line that at times is passable and at other times is horrific.
  9. The next time Matthew Stratford gets under center someone should rock his ass into another dimension.
  10. Yazoo hefeweizen out of Nashville.
  11. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) "Weekend passes only are available for purchase by fans who book the two night stay" Aggravating. From the same people who think that Dynamic pricing is a good idea.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) I assume you're talking about Dunn here. To be clear, I'm not arguing for or against his acquisition at all. I'm just saying that, given the roster that we had in 2012, Dunn was the best choice for the #3 slot in the lineup based on type of hitter he is. And this opinion is based on base/out state and linear weights research done by Tom Tango, which I think is really solid. I don't think he was the best choice for the #3 spot. The season is long and the second half Dunn was a shell of what you would consider a 3 hole hitter. The man had a .729 OPS with a .302 OBP for the second half of the season. So no matter what algorithm you use to optimize your lineup, Adam Dunn doesn't belong in the 3 hole.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) I'd go for Hawk and Wimpy No. 1. If that fails, yes, Hawk and Ozzie. Why not? You are to Ozzie as a 13 year old girl is to Justin Bieber.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 12:06 AM) Thanks. I am loyal to Ozzie; I'm currently mad at the White Sox. Players and managers come and go. Stop worrying about the name on the back of the shirt and start worrying about the name on the front of the shirt. My guess is that you are going to be mad at the Marlins shortly as well.
  15. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) LOL, IBB Canzler Ventura is practicing strategy.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) Amazingly the team he was playing for didn't make the postseason. Alexei learned not to arrive late though. It's all about the little battles in the game.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Why is Ray Olmedo playing a game professionally that he is terrible at? Amazingly he got to bat second in a game in a pennant race.
  18. QUOTE (kapzk @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) Dude s*** happens, this is sports and especially when you are a pitcher anytime can a muscle pop off and screw u up. We should be fortunate that he worked his tail off to get into the shape he is, heck a ton of ppl making that type of money wouldn't have bothered getting back to where Peavy has gotten back. Just respect that and move on. Every time I hear Peavy speak I think of this scene.
  19. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 10:22 PM) Why risk him getting hurt. Let him prepare for next season early. His last start was good thus he ends on a positive note.211 innings pitched, 3.37 era...impressive season. Peavy is not going to be here next year.
  20. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 10:06 PM) The Sox will score another 19 tomorrow. Hopefully they find these next year. They have been missing since 2005.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 08:56 PM) It looks like the offense and team as a whole is making a statement. 11-0 and Tank with a grannie. Love it even if it may be too late. Go out swinging and with pride What statement. That when the going gets tough they roll over and die. When its garbage time they perform. Pathetic.
  22. I called it. The offense would suddenly explode once it was over. Their anuses finally relaxed. We need to do a better job evaluating people because we have too many people who can't handle pressure.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2012 -> 01:46 AM) People don't want to hear it, but this was a bad year to have lost Mark. We'd have won the division if he was still on the team. That pure and simple sucks. A few dollars costs us a division. The offense shrivels up and dies over the last month and you think that MB is the difference maker here. Its like being presented with 2+2 and you answer October.
  24. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 08:18 PM) The most talented teams to not make the playoffs were the 2003 and 2006 teams. This team really did over achieve. I give KW credit for not trading away the farm just to keep them in the chase. We pretty much got Youk, Liriano and Myers for nothing. Did it work out in the end, NO. But we can now go to the drawing board knowing what you have, and what you need. Also, for the first time- we will have $ to spend on FA's. Trading pieces: Sell high on Rios! He never has 2 solid years in a row and it will be nice to free up even more money! I would like to trade Rios for more farm depth. Biggest need for 2013- Pitching! Lets turn this around for next year! We are getting closer!! Our inability to hit cost us the postseason and our pitching is our number one need?
