  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Please bring back Joe Crede. I would think the price would be right and Joe >than Josh. I know it isn't going to happen, but I am afraid we will see some loses in 2009 because of inferior defense at 3B. I don't put much faith in these off season stories centered around how much better someone is looking. They all look and perform better during winter reconditioning. Not Gonna Happen I don't put much faith in these off seasons stories centered around how healthy Joe Crede is either.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) I don't think he was trying to be a dick and mock you. I'm pretty sure it was a legitimate question about what you think of the game Dylan is holding out for this game.

  4. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) I ragged on MMA style, certainly--because I don't like it. I said Boxers have better punches, yes, and they do. But where can you quote me specifically comparing the two fighting styles? Basically I've gotten a lot back along the lines of a boxer couldn't take a kick to the leg or couldn't fight on the ground. I never said they could. I've also gotten back that, essentially, boxing isn't fighting. That is ridiculous. What I meant by "they couldn't hold the jock strap of..." is that MMA has no history, it has no grace, it has no class; all it has is a brute style of fighting. Everyone knows the name Muhammad Ali and they know it for a reason. He was a great fighter, if not the greatest. The picture of that guy I posted, the guy in the speedo, apparently he's a big name MMA fighter. I've never seen, nor heard of him. I know I'm not the only one. I know that's of no fault of the sport, but when I'm 70 years old, my grandkids will know who Muhammad Ali is. Will they know who that guy in the speedo is? The type of fighting we call MMA has been around a lot longer than Dana White and the UFC. You can look to the Greeks and Pankration which was an Olympic sport. The Gracie family has been holding these types of tournaments since the 20s. Shoot fighting started in Japan in the late 70s and early 80s. So your comments about the history of it are a bit out of touch. And for boxing fans to use the brutality of MMA to show less class only need to look back in the last 100 years of your own sport when boxing was two men, barenuckles, beating each other to death for 50 rounds. Yes you have come a long way, and so has the UFC from UFC1.
  5. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) I never did compare combat systems, I was defending the gloves. And I never said a boxer could beat an MMA fighter under MMA rules. You mean that a boxer could beat a UFC fighter under boxing rules. Sure I agree. In a fight, not so much.
  6. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) That depends on the fighter. Lennox Lewis was boring as hell, but I enjoyed watching him fight. Have you seen amateur boxing live? A lot of the time, since it's three rounds, those guys get to it and don't waste time. Yeah, the top contenders can be boring, especially the heavyweights, and they fight with gloves, but there is nobody in UFC that has the type of power a young Mike Tyson or Joe Fraiser had. The boxers would probably break their hands in the middle of the fight if they didn't use gloves. Also, with the amount of tape they put around their knuckles, there's not half as much cushion as you'd think. It's not much different than the gloves the UFC fighters wear. Also, the gloves, typically, are used for defensive purposes, not to cushion a punch that'd probably paralyze the average man. Also, most of the fights you've seen between two, probably drunk, men... that's not a fight. That's two guys trying to be tough. This toe to toe crap is bulls***. Sure Mike Tyson has a killer punch, but Mike Tyson would be meat if he went up against Fedor under UFC rules. Mike has a punchers chance of landing something, but the fight would be. Fedor dropping Mike on the ground, Tyson scrambling, and then either having something broken or getting choked out. You cannot compare combat systems. You talk about the strength of a punch, I counter that with the power of a shin kick to your thigh or to your head. You want to watch a man buckle, have a guy trained in Kyokushin Kai or Thai give them a good inner thigh or outer thigh blast full contact.
  7. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 11:40 AM) Maybe I'll just kick you in the leg, roll around on the floor with you for 10 minutes and twist your arm, pull your hair and then be told by boxing scouts that I don't have what it takes to make it to the big show, instead. Give me a break, I'd rather watch WWE than that trash. You call that fighting? I call it shock value. No man with any sort of class fights like those brutes in UFC. Actually this is what fighting is. I have yet to see a real fight where two men wear pillows on their hands and dance around punching from the belt up, a belt mind you, that seems to fit some where around the top of their rib cage. Boxing is boring. I would rather see combat as it really happens. 12 rounds of a dancing contest is not for me.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) Agreed. It doesn't matter how long it's going to be postponed, there will be people scrambling behind it once it finally goes into place. The tech version of this is going to happen in the next few years, the IPv6 conversion. Wait till the geeks get a hold of 128 bit addressing that is represented as hex for their IP addresses. I have been testing and working with IPv6 in the lab for a few years. For the geeks on the site, if you wish to see the new IPv6 addressing you dont have to wait you can test it via this site and the free connectivity software on the right side. Google has some IPv6 sites, and the military is converting over to it. IPv4 to IPv6 connectivity Actually one of the first users of this technology should be mobile phones.
  9. I never leave voicemail, ever for friends and family. I figure they have caller ID and will call me back. Sad thing is that works pretty damn well.
  10. How many years have they been telling people about this. How long have the rebates been out. Yet last minute people complaining about how they can't get a rebate form is going to move this. They will move the date again when the same people don't move forward again.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) Movies are very loud at the theater. Chances of a baby sleeping throughout are slim. Babies are a bit more resilient to noise than you think.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 09:34 AM) Call me a prude but I don't see any scenario where it's cool to bring toddlers and babies to R rated movies. Well let me rephrase it, its to be more expected during the day. I am not a big proponent it either.
  13. QUOTE (Steff @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) I agree and disagree. Over the summer I saw a ridiculous amount of movies during the day with Bri because all she did was slept. And on the rare occasion she was awake she just watched the screen silently. But I do agree there should be a cut off time for all movies for babies and toddlers. During the day is fine. Its a different movie experience. But late at night on a friday is a different story. I was at a movie, where 2 familes, brought 3 toddlers, and 2 babies to see a scary movie. By about 20 minutes in, the toddlers are screaming, and the parents are fighting with the people in the theater because its their god given rights to bring kids to the 10:20 showing because they bought a ticket. Eventually they were ejected, but it ruined the movie experience.
  14. Babies and toddlers at rated R movies after 9pm. Either find the baby sitter or stay at home. People who think its okay to cut you off in their car, as long as they give you the quick wave. The unwashed who think that a cologne bath will fix their issues. People who pull the grandmaster bud bundy look and have their pants hanging below their waist. Wear a belt or pull up your damn pants. The emo look in general. Are you a girl, are you a boy. Make up your mind.
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) I like the movie The Fast and the Furious (the 1st one). I know it's over-the-top, has bad acting, and I hate the cars they drive, but for some reason I just like the movie. It's odd b/c I'm not into racing cars or anything like that at all. I like the 2nd one. Actually strike that, I like the 3 minutes of hot Japanese girls in short skirts parading around the cars. If you could just make a movie about that then that would be a hit.
  16. I like White and black pudding ( irish type ). Digging through a packet analyzer or debug logs for a firewall/switch/router. Running. Gaelic Football GAA Fried Spam sandwich with Mayo ( the mystery meat ) Liver Sausage with butter on bread
  17. Chocolate. I could never eat chocolate again and it wouldnt bother me. The only chocolate item I like is my Whey Protein shake I have after I run. Thats about the end of it. Bars, cake, etc forget it. I love warm weather, I despise the sun to the point where I have a hard time wearing summer clothes. It drives the wife bonkers. Granted you day walkers have no problem, but I burn to a crisp in a short period of time.
  18. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) Fartleks are awesome. No matter how you feel you can get a good workout in. If you feel good, push it, if you don't lay back a little. Where do you do yours? I go to a big park by my house, I have also heard golf courses are good. Right now with winter, its a lot of treadmill which I hate but its a lot better than running on the street at night or trying to figure out who shovels their walk or not. In the spring through fall I vary my runs quite a bit. I try different terrain and different surroundings. It makes the run a lot easier. For street running I use Map My Run to lay out my run, and I get a good idea of my waypoints for my fartleks. I change up my routine a bit when I run outside more. Saturdays become a distance day and I run those at the forest preserves. I run at the park as well. Changing it up is key. I alternate some track work for speed and some stairs at the football field as well to help with strength. As for Golf courses, I ran one a few years back in the offseason up in Wisconsin. I ran the one attached to the Wilderness Resort up near Lake Geneva. That was awesome. Some good hills.
  19. Actually I am in the best shape since college right now. I have given up lifting for the most part and concentrate on cardio and using pushups and dips as a replacement for lifting. Its more about time management now. My cardio workout takes a lot of time now, and I don't have the time to spend lifting. I workout now 6 days a week and its primarily to keep healthy and balance my blood sugar. As a diabetic who doesn't want to be on insulin, this cardio workout keeps my sugars in check. Cardio at night MWF 5 mile run that I run at a 7 to 7 1/2 mnute mile pace. T Th Sat 30 minute fartlek run ( pyramid workout ) T Th Sat swim for 10 minutes ( alternate laps of freestyle, breast, and backstroke ) MWF 3 sets of 25 crunches ( 75 total) T Th Sat 3 sets of 50 crunches ( 150 total ). First set is standard, then on my right side, and on my left. Morning routine 90 push ups ( 3 sets of 30 ( first set is normal, 2nd set is feet elevated, 3rd set is triangle. ) 40 dips using a chair
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 17, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) I swear, some of you have mechanisms in your brain that cause you to have a psychotic break at the mention of Jerry Owens's name. Well because everyone remembers last year when JO was the starting outfielder and Quentin was the 4th OF out of ST. Only a broke groin kept that abomination from happening.
  21. Well the car decided not to start this morning, so my commute became a 5 second commute to my upstairs office. I wish I could work from home more. My home office is pimped out compared to my work office. Don't get me wrong my work office is very nice. But the 32 inch LCD on the wall overrides anything at my office at work.
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 13, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) My Motorola H500 is failing after two years of daily use. I was looking at noise cancelling models and wondering if they are worth the extra $$ I went through a few blue tooth headsets over the last few years. If you are looking at getting something with noise canceling I would look at either the Jawbone or the Blue Ant. I have a Blue Ant Z9i that I have used for the last 6 months. Its small, feels comfortable on the ear. It can pair with multiple devices as well. I am constantly using the headset for work. And so far has worked out real well for me. I have colleagues that have used the Jawbone and swear by it as well.
  23. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) Freakin' Levine.
  24. Just make sure that Dr. Lorenna Bobbit isn't performing the procedure for you. I have to take advantage here, because adult circumcision might never come up again.
