Congrats. Democracy once again has spoken. From my standpoint, I hope this awakens my party to get back to what it once was. 8 years of Bush hurt my party more than it hurt you in the long run. It will take a long time to undo the damage. I am a bit nervous on what financial impact this will have in the long run to me. But I can take one piece of comfort that we at least know who will throw out the first pitch in next years game 1 at the Cell. Enjoy your night.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:43 PM) Just talked to a friend in MN and she said they were reporting Franken is up by only about 600 now. Hopefully Coleman can pull this out. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) Or he'll start in RF, in fact if I had to put money on it I'd say Dye would be the one to go. Dye would make sense. He will bring back value, his contract is very attractive for other teams. His production is still very good.

Well back to the crappy tax rates I go.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) As a tech guy, the technology is VERY cool. but it's about 4-8 years too soon. The technology is real, and is plausible today. The problem is that CNN obviously decided that low tech version would be enough to pass by on TV.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) When the first hologram came up my roommates and I were crying laughing The sad thing is, you know that they ran this through a test and someone looked and said. Sure this looks good enough to pander to the public.

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) They should beam up Dean Stockwell for a Quantum Leap omage! These holograms look like something that belongs on local cable access. With the access that CNN has to technology, they could do a better job than the hologram with the white line around them where the green screen image wasn't touched up. Crapola.

I guess the place for accepteded failure in IT is when you work for an electronic voting manufacturer. Sequoia systems is trying to fix a glitch that doesn't allow the data to be reported for Cook County. Data is secure from what they are saying, but the reporting feature doesnt work. One day someone will get a product that will work, be secure, and provide quick results without all of this crap.

I voted, line was 20 people at 8:20am today. No for the con con. As a person who has worked a lot of elections in different capacities I found it appauling that my polling place had a young election judge openly talking about Obama and different polls, and different political views on different candidates right in front of the machines. How he is going to party when Obama wins. On my way out I told him that he can't do that and he has to be 100 feet from the polls to campaign for his candidate. He turns to me and says, well man I am just repeating the news. The rest of the judges didnt want to deal with it. I reported it to the Dupage County states attorney's office.

Middle Class started at below 250k, then 200k, then Biden said its 150k, and now Richardson says its 120k. The number keeps falling. And it keeps dropping.

Well Kenny if Mr Owens didnt get hurt Q would be on the bench rotting for most of the year. So yes, it was the worst possible thing to have Owens as our leadoff guy last year. I would rather pick up someone who can hit a bit over the fast guy who cant get on base, cant hit, and cant field that well. The scout that made that comment needs to find another line of work. If we are looking for a bad fast guy for a starting role, I dont want that person helping mold this team.

QUOTE (juddling @ Oct 31, 2008 -> 06:33 AM) There are skilled locksmiths out there that can reproduce a key from high-resolution images, but new software developed by computer scientists at UC San Diego has simplified the process to a frightening degree. In fact, their "Sneakey" system can reproduce a key with only a grainy cellphone image or, in one case, a picture taken from 200 feet away with a five-inch telephoto lens. “The program is simple. You have to click on the photo to tell it where the top of the key is, and a few other control points. From here, it normalizes the key’s size and position. Since each pixel then corresponds to a set distance, it can accurately guess the height of each of the key cuts,” explained Benjamin Laxton, the first author on the paper who recently earned his Master’s degree in computer science from UC San Diego. The researchers have not released their code to the public, but they claim that anyone with a decent working knowledge of MatLab and computer vision techniques could create a similar system without much difficulty. Their suggestion: treat your keys like you would a credit card. Link Cool that the program can do this. But why would any bad guy go through all the effort of doing it this way, when you can create a bump key and circumvent most of the locks out there. Hell there is wiki sites and youtube video's instructing bad guys how to make the bump key, and the proper technique for breaking into the door.

Here is a question that has concerned me. What exactly does Obama mean by his constant comments about lifting tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. I have worked for a few multi-national based companies headquartered in the US. All of them have had production in the regions, some plants in China and in India and other parts of the world. Now is he going to go hogwild on taxes for multinational corporations because they are not all home grown. If thats the case, that should deck the economy because every single large international company has operations overseas. Some for regional legal requirements, some for cost, and some to have a competitive advantage with having local people speaking the local language. Now because a plant that services a client in say Indiana closes because the company were were supplying raw material for goes out of businesss the area, and one opens up in Shanghai because of a large contract with a Chinese vendor. Does that count as shipping jobs overseas. Its not black and white.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 11:03 AM) true, they haven't done a great job, but they've got a president w/ veto power looming over them. plus, yes, they're democratically controlled, but that still means they need to get GOP votes to pass anything. we'll see what happens with a Dem pres/congress next year. Yeah I am so looking forward to the crazy crap that comes out of looney Pelosi and looney Reid without a veto above them.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2008 -> 09:00 AM) We are nowhere near it in most key areas. The big problem many conservatives and moderates have about approaching socialism is really with the use of the tax code as a redistribution of wealth. Obama's plan would do that slightly more than is already done. Obama says he isn't going to raise taxes on those making less than 250k. You know Bill Clinton made similar promises during his first election as well. Then once elected started to jack taxes up. I figure Obama will pull the same crap. Deny the tax increase except for the very rich, then tax the living crap out of people when he gets in.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) I dont see what's wrong with Socialism. I have this slight problem with the redistribution of wealth that is being bantered about. Why exactly should any american have to be penalized for success. Who is the government to penalize someone for the hard work, hours away from their family, and risk that they put into their lives to attain success.

Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays ALCS Thread

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 16, 2008 -> 10:26 PM) I feel you on that one. I truly hate one franchise and their fans. I don't have to tell you who they are. I actually envy Boston and their ability to stay competitive year in and out while still being able to produce elite talent from within. Spend some time in New England and you will learn to hate them. I got to spend 3 weeks in August in that area of the country. -

Thats a song made up for use in the Ireland Rugby Matches. The Irish rugby teams use players from the north as well as the south. The North doesn't want to listen to Amhrán na bhFiann and the Republic doesnt want to listen to "God save the Queen". It was created to avoid the sectarian issues that we have seen before.

Secure your f***ing networks for the love of god. This is mind boggling at this time. World Bank Group's network Hacked. At least they had the brains to hire Kevin Mandia's outfit to help assess the impact.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 10:26 AM) Statistical data would show that power hitting lineups tend to out-produce small ball lineups, no? Explain the Twins to me then. They scored more runs, they lead the league in hitting on the road.
