  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 12:26 AM) I think record in 1 and 2 run games is just as important, if not more important, than run differential. Throw out the 2006 stats and I bet you'll see an even greater spread than 2005 or 2008. For that matter, you can also include 2000 for comparison's sake. Those teams would score 10 runs one night and get shut out the next by an ace, crafty lefthander, journeyman, unknown rookie or someone we'd never scouted before. Take a gander at that rotation in 2000, and what started in the playoffs for us.
  2. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:57 PM) What gets me is when White Sox fans see Gomez run all over the Sox, and think he is an actual MVP candidate, which then leads them to beg for speed at the top, which will obviously solve all the Sox problems, as well as the economy. People equate Mr Dergan with the sole reason we won the world series in 2005. How many people realize how good our pitching was. And how bad our offense was for most of the year. Yet Prancer steals some bases, Hawk creams himself and that magically is the formula for the rest of history. These are the same people who think that we cannot have a CF unless its Aaron Rowand. Take that pitching and strap it on a bunch of our other teams in this decade and we have a lot of banners hanging up from division championships to more.
  3. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) Think of it this way: if Owens, Quentin and Dye played the same number of games next year with Owens leading off, Quentin hitting 3rd and Dye hitting 5th, Jerry Owens would get about 5% more PA than Quentin and 10% more PA than Dye. Sounds good right? Stone might need a tranq gun to slow Hawk down when he creams over speed at the top of the order. Hawk made a crappy player like Gomez seem like an MVP. I can't imagine what he will do when he is subjected to speedy guy running his ground outs out as breakneck speed.
  4. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:46 PM) Giving 600+ PA to Jerry Owens would be a colossal mistake. I hope Ozzie is just talking. The only reason we were not subjected to that last year was divine intervention. He was slated to go up until he got injured.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,3670284.story Quotes from Ozzie's PC about "these kids can play version 2" Stupid s*** like this Guillen also said that Owens, who stole 32 bases in 2007 but was hindered by injuries last season, would bat leadoff if the season started now. Pisses me off. Last year if Ozzie had his way, Q would of been on the bench and Mr Speedy-No Hitty-No get on basey would of been grounding out over and over and over. It was such an abomination that God had to strike him down, so a much better player wouldnt be on the bench.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:00 PM) My two favorite Earl Weaverisms: On offense, your most precious possessions are your 27 outs".- Earl Weaver "If you play for one run, that's all you'll get"- Earl Weaver In my perfect world. OBP ( best skill is his ability to run from 1st to 3rd. Could care less if he can steal a base. ) Line drive type who has a propensity to hit to right when he gets behind in the count. Low strikeouts. Bopper Bopper Bopper Bopper Doubles line drive type Line drive type Line Drive type Crank all the home runs you want. Just balance the thing with line drive guys who don't strikeout. Our problem is when we have low BA, high strikeout guys throughout the lineup. Thats when they get owned as a team and look lethargic. To me balancing out the lineup forces the pitcher to throw strikes to your best hitters who can drive the ball out of the park.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:53 PM) It’s a double-edged sabermetric sword. How many runs do you think we failed to score by having Tadahito lay down a bunt? What if he’d singled? Or doubled? Would not him actually being on base for Everett, Konerko, Dye and Crash Rowand have provided us the opportunity more runs? And the fact that the pitching was out of its mind good is another thing. The offense sucked for the first two months. Then Big Hurt came back, offense takes off, he gets hurt, offense dies. Then with 2 weeks left, Ozzie flips Dye in the 3 hole and the offense takes off again. The reason we won in 05 is a fantastic starting pitching, great defense, and stellar relief. Yet people think that Mr Dergan stealing a base in April is why we won that year.
  8. Speaking as a diabetic, Santo and his pity party can go f*** themselves. Too much self promotion.
  9. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=206...&refer=home So we sent them $15,000,000,000.00 what did we buy again? The 15 billion was to open lines of credit. Now that doesn't mean that the lines of credit are opened up to companies that don't deserve it. Thats what got us here in the first place. I would rather they be frugal with the credit than to go hog wild, piss it away on companies that will fail anyway and then we have to give them another bailout.
  10. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) i just would like BOA to come out and say why they declined they renewal of the company's line of credit and what kind of notice they gave them. Because the company was showing declining sales. They became a risky investment for a line of credit. After what has happened with Fannie May and Freddie Mac are we really going to get mad at a Fiscal entity pulling the rug out before they get caught holding the bag. BOA is responsible for the shareholders of BOA, and for their employees.
  11. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:24 PM) CHICAGO – Gov. Rod Blagojevich ordered all state agencies Monday to stop doing business with Bank of America to try to pressure the bank into helping laid-off workers staging a sit-in at their shuttered factory. This is an ugly situation. Business are going to fail in this economy over the next year. Does this mean that every company, or lending organization owe money to workers if the business fail. Where is the line drawn.
  12. Maybe if Santo did a little less of this jackassery. He might be in.
  13. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:28 AM) It's a shame they can't put a breathalyzer on a keyboard and lock out drunks from posting. Heads weekend posting would come to a standstill.
  14. Somewhere on the internets, Anthraxfan93 is dying just a little bit on this news. I guess his Christmas card to Kenny isn't going out this year.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) I think Cowley is smart with this twitter thing. People will appreciate his quick info and develop a relationship with him. Like when Juan Uribe was gone, or the other associated piles of crap that he has said. He is by far the worst when it comes to accuracy. The only thing he is is Web 2.0 connected. That is about it.
  16. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:06 PM) Cowley on Twitter 3 minutes ago: "Dye trade is being shot down by some sources now. Hold off on the Homer Bailey jerseys for right now." Cowley's source are probably blogs, web boards, and a maybe other newspapers. He has taken over for the carpet bomber as the best tactician of spread the crap rumors. I bet you if MLBTR comes out with something else, Cowley will be twittering away on a new scoop.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:08 PM) Right, of course they arent worth half of what Dye is. And I like that many people are saying they wont go to games next year, I like it when there are less yahoo's at the park. The Sox are going after some FA's as we speak. I am not too worried, I like this building on young pitching philosophy. Its funny. 2 years ago we had tons of people on this site wishing we would burn the entire thing down and rebuild. Talking about how we are going to be old, and that the rest of the AL Central is ready to pass us by. Here we are 2 years later, with a nice young nucleus and we seem to be building around a strong pitching core. Pitchers with pedigree's that either havent gotten to the majors, or have been underwhelming. I stand where I was 2 years ago. I want to win not once in a while, but I want this team to be in it year after year. Dye is a great player for the sox, and is one of the most important players for this team in its history. In a few years I hope to thank him for bringing us a strong pitcher. On this site, like a lot of other sites, we overvalue our own players, and undervalue other teams. Kenny and his management team have done pretty well bringing talent to this team. Some times it fails. But the plan is there. I look forward to seeing some of these players play for this team. And I would rather fork money over to see this team, than to wait 2 years with an aging core and no fallback plan outside of becoming the Yankees. It saddens us all to see players go, but it all happens. Lets reload and have a great team for a long time.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) Would of rather have shipped Thome or Kong somewhere. So would of Kenny, but those pesky NTC's mess up those plans.
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) In one of the updates it said OC said there was a "slight chance" he will accept it....lets hope he doesn't. Jessie Rodgers just stated that on a conference call with Kenny, he asked what happens if Cabrera accepts arbitration. Kenny stated that Alexei is our SS, and one of the young guys will be our 2nd baseman. If Cabrera comes back, he will be on the bench.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Law is a very bitter man who takes out his resentment of his old boss (J.P. Riccardi) on every GM, and every farm system in baseball. Here is another Law-jackassism in that chat. Mike (Portland, ME): Entering the off-season, the Chisox's farm system likely ranked in the bottom five. Do you see the additions of Viciedo, Flowers, Gilmore, Rodriguez, Lillibridge, Marquez, and Nunez as improving the overall standing significantly, marginally, or not at all? SportsNation Keith Law: (1:23 PM ET ) Flowers definitely boosts them. Viciedo somewhat; talked to someone who'd seen him, said he likes the swing, projects for plus power, very bad body, completely out of shape, both bad signs for a 19 - excuse me, "19"-year-old. (Can we just say he's 19 in Cuban years?) The other guys don't really affect their relative standing.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Listen up fatos, going to the gym for 4 days after a holiday isnt going to make you skinnier, you didnt go before, and you wont go in a few weeks, just stay home and let the food take its course. The Fatos after the new years are the best. The ones who barely know how the machines work, and then instead of taking it easy use the person to their right or left as a gage for how fast to run. I look forward to the end of January, when the gym is back to normal and the new years fatos are back on their couch, a few dollars lighter in their pockets shoving a bucket of lard back into their mouth only to repeat the same thing next winter.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) And questions about whether or not KW's interested in competing in 2009. I swear there's some posters on here who'd rather have a highly ranked farm system than a competitive major league team. A year ago, we were looking at this offseason with a whole bunch of old guys looking at a cliff we were about to jump off after 09 when the old guys are no longer under contract and our minor leagues had nothing to provide. We resign Uribe, and all looks lost. Then some moves start to happen. Now we look like we are reloading with some talent. We have enough depth now in the middle infield that someone should stick. It also gives us chits to spend when it comes to trade. If we had this type of talent in our system last year, we would have Cabrera on our team. Its not about having a great minor league system over a great major league system its about that once again teams value cheap talent under control over expensive free agents. I would rather have a medicore year this year, and reload for a very long run of top notch baseball. Over the status quo of overvaluing the fact that we won the division in a down year.
  23. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) False. I have been to one this year though and was a groomsman. The person below me bought a TV on Black Friday. False, but I bought a 28' LCD Monitor for my home office. The person below me was the drunk fool at an office christmas party.
