QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) Pig odor research is important if you live anywhere near a pig farm. http://www.epi.state.nc.us/epi/mera/iloodoreffects.html Maybe they can do the same for the people who live next to landfills, or sewage treatment plants. Animals and their feces smell. So if you are living next to a farm, its going to stink.

2.1 million for the Center for Grape Genetics in New York 1.7 million for pig odor research in Iowa

QUOTE (Texsox @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) Guest worker program. I want to see the low cost part of the guest worker formula that makes them attractive today when they are gettng minimum wage and taxes are being accounted for and paid. And does the line for the guest worker program only work for Mexicans, or can others apply. My guess is that a guest worker program will have a limit, and that other people would like to get a permit as well.

They should stay safe, and stay home in Mexico.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) So I told my friend to look at this thread to see if anything popped out: He told me the following: So that tells me that everything can be read, and yet, I'm sort of confused about that... could it be some type of "key" issue? That's what I was reading earlier, but that doesn't make sense to me. If it can be read and he can see all the information - then it's a matter of pulling that data, I think. Any ideas? Windows XP had a feature called Encrypting File System and when you list the files it shows up green. That could be the culprit. But its not something that is turned on by default so its kind of odd that your friend would run into this. Hell I have never seen a machine yet with this enabled and people using it to encrypt data. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encrypting_File_System Lots of Links at the bottom of this. Here is a product that might help give the demo a copy. I have used their password cracking programs at work, never this particular product. Haven't run into EFS at all. http://www.elcomsoft.com/aefsdr.html Hope this helps.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) My dad always told me you should pick a pin number that was the year of your birthday multiplied by 3. Now I have a new idea, haha. And whoever said the Twins don't have a LH reliever, they have Breslow and Mijares, who were probably their best relievers down the stretch. It was Nathan, Crain, Guerrier and Guardado that were the shakiest. The Twins will have an interesting battle for the outfield (right now Delmon Young, who is their most talent player, is ticket for the bench) and at SS (Punto vs. Brendan Harris). Their long relief is still unsettled too. Bonser's out for the year. Maybe Humber or Mulvey, RA Dickey, someone like that. Just glad they didn't get Juan Cruz. I agree, though, that if Liriano is close to his 2006 form, then the Twins are the team to beat. By the way, who said that Crede isn't the best defender in the AL Central? CHW=Fields/Viciedo/Betemit CLE=DeRosa or Peralta DET=Brandon Inge KC=Alex Gordon Inge and Gordon are good athletes, but there's no way they are obviously better than a closer to healthy Crede. The White Sox and Indians might have even more of a train wreck on their hands. Considering his health status over the last few years, saying healthy Crede is akin to healthy wood or Prior or now Milton Bradley. Sure if the stars align and he can make it through the season and his back is okay he is a good defender. But we all saw what happens when the back tweaks a bit, and his throws start to sail a bit. Last year, he looked nothing like the Joe Crede we have seen here before from the defense standpoint. He again will have the same motivation to stay on the field even if his back hurts as he did last year even if he is unhealthy as he needs to prove he can hold up over the course of the year. He will be less likely to take time off to rest his back on his own. So unless a miracle happened and his back is fixed forever we won't see the same defender. We however will see periods of time where he is that plus defender. Just holding up over the course of the season will be hard.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Windows should still recognize the drive, most portable hard drives launch an installer of their software when plugged into a new PC, which it would appear to be since it has a whole new OS. Most portable drives are formated as FAT or NTFS and work as you say. Your OS will recognize the USB drive, load the drives and then will auto-mount it. If the portable disk was encrypted as a whole, then thats an entirely different matter. Then when the system mounts it, it will see garbage and will attempt to format it or it won't read it at all. Now if the drive isn't encrypted, and maybe the partition table is corrupted or was formatted accidentally. Then he could use a utility like Recover my files, or something else to recover the data. It can also recover the partition as well.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) This is a windows machine - not linux or anything like that. He used it on his laptop - backed it up - then reinstalled XP straight on the laptop. As far as a I know, he didn't hook up to another machine. So it sounds like he just needs to reinstall the encryption software? He said when he went to go to the backup drive, windows wouldn't recognize it, if I am remembering right. The encryption software probably mounts the drive outside of the normal windows process. So a reinstallation of that is the first step, and see if it now recognizes the drive after that.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 27, 2009 -> 03:26 PM) I have a friend who backed up their laptop to a portable hard drive. Their hard drive crashed on the laptop, and he re-installed the OS on the laptop. Now, when he goes to the portable hard drive, it doesn't recognize anything on the portable (I would presume because it's encrypted)... Anyone have any ideas to get to the data? If he encrypted the portable with another application, such as truecrypt, then he will need to reinstall the Encryption program and use it to mount the portable. Truecrypt for example, mounts drives through its application with a shared secret password or keyring. If I was to plug that into another machine it would look unrecognizable. Most encryption applications will allow you to backup the keys to another medium for use for repair or utility access. This is specifically for disasters like this. If this is not the case, then he might have a problem. Most of these encryption programs are encrypted with a pretty strong algorithm such as AES, Twofish, Blowfish, etc. Brute forcing it is not an option. And data recovery doesn't work on encrypted drives for the most part. If its not encrypted, you can either mount it manually on a Linux machine and look at the data ( maybe the volume header is trashed ), or try a data recovery utility Has he every used this portable drive on another machine?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) So according to Cowley Viciedo booted a ball at 3rd that should have been ruled an error but was instead a single. Who knows what actually happened. You have to dig through 7 layers of cute comments and jabs. Once he makes up his mind on someone, they are doomed. Brian could hit 700 and will still be the lurker of the hunnies. -
The UN continues to show its a joke.

I will never use TCF bank. The Monday after my wedding my wife and I go to TCF bank to drop off the checks from the wedding. We get our reciept and we leave later that day for our honeymoon. When we come back I pull up my balance, and the money oddly from my wedding didn't clear. So I call the bank and they said well they will have to investigate. A day later nothing, I go into the bank and demand to see the bank manager with my receipt in hand. He asks me if I have proof I dropped the money off. I show him the receipt. He asks me, well did you make copies of the checks. This is when I go nuts. Who the hell makes zerox copies of every check when they deposit it. Now I start contacting relatives to see if their check cleared. Sure enough, it was clearing. So I got copies of this and bring it back to said manager and he says well they have located the checks, however there is a 5 thousand dollar difference between the checks and the deposit slip I gave them. I told them, well you realize I gave you cash as well. So to make a long story short, after I involved some federal law enforcement authorities in the mix is when they gave me my money. I quickly closed the account and moved to another bank. Never freakin again.

ST Game 1: White Sox vs. Angels

QUOTE (R.J. @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) They say that because he has a ton more value as a catcher with 30 homer power than as a first baseman with 30 homer power. Teams and general managers are more likely to try and sell prospects and acquisitions like Flowers to the fan base and public at large to build good feelings about the team and build the inferred value of the farm system. Flowers is a good hitter but he'd be an awful full time starting major league catcher. The Braves knew this. I think so did Kenny. He's a first baseman. They're lying about Jeff Marquez too. Lets let him play some games behind the plate over the year with instruction before we write him off. -

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) Don't you think it would have been a better PR move if Microsoft just ate this loss? Story Link They don't care about PR. If they cared about PR, they would of ditched the H1B Visa workers and kept the US Citizens.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 10:01 AM) i totally see that point. We... as Americas... have become way too "give it to me now". Good luck with trying to get the business traveller to move to this. People are away from their families enough with travel and would rather fly and get there quickly instead of taking forever to use a train.

QUOTE (Nokona @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 01:28 PM) God I can't wait for Jerry Owens to bunt on Wednesday The only thing worse than watching Jerry Owens take a full swing, and dribble the ball to 2nd base will be Hawks reaction to it. Hawks Bromance with Owens will be silly. "Stone Poney, I tell you what. I read today that Jerry is only hitting .225. But as you know that only tells part of the story. How many runs did he help us score, by scaring the pitcher with his flashlike abilities to run to first. Dont tell me what you hit, tell me how fast you run that out to first. He is hustling and those hits will drop. They just have 6 guys in the infield. Thats not fair. And his defense, woosh. He can run under a ball sure. And with his speed, he can get to the ball before its hit. I tell you the only player I think even comes to Jerry Owens talent is playing up in CF for the Twins and I tell you thats a good looking MVP candidate."

The only way this could be worse, is if this was on TBS and had Frank Caliendo commercials every 5 minutes.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) I think they should give some type of Hottest New Ingenue statuette to Freida Pinto just so that it would add a little more color to the morning newspapers tomorrow...and contrast well with her Blueberry Cheesecake/Retro India outfit. I just want know as a person who has worked in IT for a long time, where the hell are the Indian girls who look like that.

Lets see, Best Visual Effects. Iron Man vs Dark Knight vs Curious Case for Benjamin Button. How the f*** did Button win over that. All they did is make him look old. This is crap.
