There was speculation the deal was something like Garland for Bedard, Adam Loewen, and a fringe prospect.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 1, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) And Taveras had a higher OBP than BA did in the minors. Thank you Texas League.

Willy Taveras was born on December 25 and I'm fairly certain that he is Jesus Christ reincarnated.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) Look up Anderson's numbers. Do you think that his .176 BA/OBP are impressive or something? Warning, small sample sizes ahead!

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Response to this procedure: The dependency service or group failed to start. Start --> Run Type 'services.msc', hit OK Find 'Print Spooler' in the list Right-click on 'Print Spooler' and select 'Properties' Click on the 'Recovery' tab, make all three drop-down boxes 'Restart The Service' The two text boxes underneath should have a '1' in them, hit OK Right-click on 'Print Spooler once again in the Services list and select 'Properties' Click on the 'General' tab, hit 'Start'

Start --> Run Type 'CMD', hit OK. Type 'net start spooler', then Enter.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) Can you pre-order PS3's yet? I believe you should be able to. I don't know if policies have changed because next-gen systems are becoming insanely popular now, but I reserved my PS2 at least a year in advance, I think it was actually more. I did that at Gamestop.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 01:42 PM) And we all know how fun that was in 2004. Garcia Vazquez Contreras/McCarthy vs. Loiaza Schoeneweis Wright Any noticable difference in reliablility/endurance of these two groups?

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) On the depth issue, yes it's a concern but I'm confident they will invite a few guys in who'd be capable of pitching a start or two or three. Thank you. How soon till we see the posts advocating 7 capable starters?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) Anyone have/used a PSP? I really like it, thinking about shelling out the 250. Never big into handhelds, but I really like the PSP. I'll sell you a near mint one..

I don't think the Orioles make any deals with us unless McCarthy's name enters the picture.

Lamb as a special request for my birthday dinner. Wish it weren't so expensive.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Sorry mis-worded it. Corrected now, not "is" but "can". There is no need to bring team wins into the picture. Marginal runs/team wins is the same for good teams and bad teams. That is why win shares are fair to all players, regardless of their team's winning percentage. 21 win shares are not better than 25 win shares, the error in the calculation would have to be so large that it isn't worth throwing out there.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) This couldn't be farther from the truth.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 06:57 AM) Even if we can't resign him, it might just be wise to hang onto him anyways. You get 1 more season out of him at his best, and then take the 2 draft picks because he'll definitely be a type A FA next off-season, assuming the Sox offer arbitration which they definitely should. Someone brought up the point that after this season he will not be a FA because he won't have six years of service time. So I think we are required to just straight release him if a new contract isn't agreed upon and no draft picks come our way should he leave.

While it may not hurt it, does anyone else think using McCarthy out of the pen unnecessarily retards his development?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 26, 2005 -> 07:46 AM) Add those together and that comes to 130% of the Sox victories. Interesting stat. No, you're thinking about it the wrong way. Those two percentages need not add up to 100.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 25, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) SB's are overrated? By who? I would have to disagree. The Sox won 72% of their games when Pods stole a base, and only 58% when he did not. They won their last 13 games (including post season) when Pods stole a base. They were also 5-8 during the August slump without him in the lineup (including 6 straight losses). The SB sets up the offense and makes everything better. It makes a single or walk into an extra base hit, it reduces the amount of sacrifices needed to score, and it puts added pressure on the pitcher. Stolen bases by themselves are not going to win you ball games, but if you couple them with timely hitting, then they become multipliers. The Sox won 73% of their regular season games when Pods was caught stealing. I've been saying this for years, but caught stealings are where it's at.
