QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:27 PM) Wow, DJ and Hawk we're completely correct on that last AB by Dye. When you watch the best pitch to swing at, you might as well sit down vs Johan. We've seen this over and over each season. You have no chance at hitting a change. If they ever get ahead in the count against Santana, all you can do is sit dead-red. Can't be taking too many fastballs from him.

Yeah he doesn't call that side of the plate.
-
This ump doensn't call the inside strike.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) Would you say pitching is the ONLY reason the Twins have beaten us four of the last five seasons? Besides our injury-plagued 2004, which one of those years could you honestly say the Twins had more talent out on the field? Wouldn't it make some sense to bring in their Director of Scouting (with a huge raise) to supplement what we already do well, which is identifying major league players that are undervalued, as well as deciding which of our prospects to trade and which to hold onto (this will be tested by Chris Young)? I don't understand why you quoted me. I'm just echoing Craig Grebeck's sentiments that with a middle of the order that hits so many home runs, our focus for the top of the order should be OBP, not speed. -
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) Scott Reifert posted the leagues top 10 hitters against Johan in terms of average: His numbers are wrong. Iguchi = .255 Ozuna = .286 Dye = .186

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) Just say no to Pods today, hell Thome too if we were smart, but that won't happen. Hell, Dye has had about the most success against Johan besides Erstad, with a .227 BA in 44 ABs. Sad when .227 is considered good for us against a pitcher. Like I said above, leaving Thome out of the lineup would not be smart. Comparing batting averages makes no sense, they are all terrible. Ozuna may be the only exception, he's got over 10 hits in not that many ABs. But the chances of stringing 3-4 hits together to put runs on the board? Slim. Thome might strike out two or three times today, but 3 of his 4 hits off Santana are home runs. He needs to be starting.
-
We need Thome in the lineup. All our hitters have awful stats against Santana, but at least Thome has hit 3 homers off him. Stacking hits together is difficult against Johan.

QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 08:16 AM) I'm not concerned about SB or aggressiveness if we still have a 3-4-5 as overpowering as it is right now. I think most of us feel the same way. Ozzie is hellbent on it though. -
Egbert closing in on 400 minor league innings, and hasn't given up 10 home runs.
-
Heads' boy Eggy 6 Ks through 3.
-
Two homers given up by Haeger is pretty crazy considering he averages about six per season.
-
Any comparison between the two has little to do with their tools. They are obviously on quite different planes. It's more the heritage, looks, physicallity, position, number, etc.
-
Seems to me he hardly ever throws his change? I feel like I've only seen it a handful of times in his two outings. But yeah the two-seamer has crazy movement and curve bites a lot. No control with the slider, and control looks like his biggest challenge overall. Masset's thrown almost as many balls as strikes. If he can be consistently more precise, look out, because his arm is great. I wonder if the Rangers knew what they had when he was traded.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 09:39 PM) How ironic that its considered good to you that they finished as the second best team in the two major sports in college? Not as ironic as the same school flat out dominating them back-to-back in two different championship games. How and where they got means nothing to me, but how they both ended is beautiful.

OSU b****slapped by Florida two championships in the same year, gotta love it.

A solitary season of good numbers compiled from two different calendar years does not an ace make. Or something.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) This guy is worse than the people A&E replaced him with to be honest. He plays the nice guy, but he's even more of a huckster than the obvious schemers that replaced him. After hearing about some of the houses that Trademark did on their show, and how they turned out a year later (often still for sale, or still actually unfinished after sale) - I'd watch his show but I wouldn't buy a house from him. Are you joking? The Montelongo's are egotistical assholes to just about everyone. I'm not sure about that other couple who flipped, I couldn't watch because they were so boring. Richard gets tough on the show every once in awhile, but only because someone has screwed him over. You probably can't make it as a flipper if you don't act like that when you have to. Richard helped several people out, putting up that jobless family in a hotel, restoring his friend's restaurant, shoeless joe museum, etc. I don't think I will change my opinion of Trademark's character because of something you heard from someone.
-
I did not know his shows on TLC had started since A&E screwed him over. Richard and Trademark are the s***. Hopefully I can record this sometime soon but TLC's website says it isn't on anytime this week..

QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 31, 2007 -> 10:24 AM) VMart is probably the worst defensive catcher in the American League. Why would you take him over AJ? Power?? In the last two years, Martinez has hit 36 home runs. AJ has hit 34. The difference in their offensive stats is mostly based on two factors: Martinez walks more He bats higher in the lineup I'd take AJ for his defense and ability to handle the staff. AJ is the most overrated player on this team. He's an average defensive catcher. Ivan Rodriguez vs. Martinez, there is a catcher comparison where the defensive level of play is so far apart that it could be the reason you'd choose one over the other. But AJ against Martinez, the fielding skills are not vastly different and Martinez is one of the best offensive catchers in the game. I would never start AJ over Martinez.

Cook also stole material from one of those stand-up clips Jerry used to show at the opening of Seinfeld.
-
Agreed. He didn't even record the minimum number of outs necessary to record a win in over 1/3 of his starts.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 18, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) You're not taking into account the umpire, or the outgoing wind. This is why you need to separate Floyd and Danks. People may assume Floyd pitched better, and he did, but it wasn't against the same hitters as Danks faced. My MLB.tv goes out during the bottom of the sixth when Floyd was still facing major leaguers, but from the box score it looks like he recorded 13 outs and maybe 3 or 4 of those outs were to scrubs? For the most part, he faced the same batters as Danks. Correct me if I'm wrong.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Mar 17, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) But from all the scouting reports I have seen, he reaches the high 90's with ease. Do you have any links? This is not what I read. I'm to believe the switch to the bullpen is his saving grace because short outings are what allows him to sustain a velocity that peaks at 95-96.
