How about a new back up catcher?
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) ...and Widger has had 37 against LHP. .189/.279/.236 Should we just ignore that too? I would like Blanco to take over Widger's spot in playing 2 times a week MAX. How many at-bats do you expect a player to have playing a third of his team's 78 games with probably twice as many starting right handed pitchers than left handed pitchers in the MLB? 78*1/3*1/3*4 at bats per game = 34.6666666666666666666666666666666 How about that? I really don't care what Blanco has done in a very limited sample size against left-handed pitching this season, or if that sample is indicitive of what a backup catcher should have at this point of the season. Fact is that Widger has had more at-bats against lefties in his career than Blanco, and is a greater threat (.797 OPS). If you feel we should make a move for Blanco because he calls a better game than Widge and is better defensively, then alright. But he's pathetic offensively and without consistent at-bats, which he would never get here, nothing should be expected of him in that regard.

Official Game Thread 6/23 - Stros vs Sox 7:35
When Count goes to that drop down angle against righties, if they're smart they realize this rules out the nasty 12 to 6 forkball and the ball is mainly going to stay on the same plane. That arm angle that Count loves gives the righties a little tougher line of sight but it still makes him a little more vulnerable in that respect.

Marlins
Shelton was a Rule 5, Jenks wasn't, we got him off waivers. We lost Fabio Castro this year to the Rangers through Rule 5 and there was a big debate (most of it got deleted) whether it was right or not for us to protect him with open roster spots. He just got activated off the DL on friday actually.

Marlins
Johnson the Marlins developed themselves, and Uggla did come from the Diamondbacks. Too bad for them they didn't protect him, I think they had an open spot but I'm not sure.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) I think it's a little early to talk wild card, but it's at least remotely possible at this point. If guys keep developing and we don't see sophomore slumps from guys like Uggla, they could be a real threat next year Uggla, what a beautiful Rule 5 steal he's turning out to be thus far. Matching Prince in offensive production.

The Bottom Of The Order
I noticed Uribe modified his stance a bit to where he is leaning back and putting all weight on his back leg whereas earlier in the season he stood with an even distribution. The only games I see for now are nationally televised ones so I'm not sure when he implemented this but hopefully his recent improvements at the plate are directly related to the tweaking of his stance. It helped him stay back nicely against the low velocity pitch he hit out of the park tonight.
