tigerfan, is there any chance that Zumaya will move into the rotation for Maroth or will he stay in the pen this year?

QUOTE(loltrain @ May 27, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) If there's anything I've learned from this forum it's that players playing above their career averages will fall back to them 100% of the time (at least if they're a tiger). In other words, I'd enjoy you're 3-4-5 hitting now before it's too late. Haha, good point.

QUOTE(TLAK @ May 27, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) I have to believe they will come back to the pack. Averages is averages. Look how well their starting pitching is doing compared to their career averages going into 06. Also, Maroth might be done if they cut on his elbow, which is why I added Jason Grilli. Maroth's '06 ERA is 3.56, I think it's listed as 2-something in your chart. And I don't know if stretching Zumaya's arm back out and putting him into the rotation is an option for the Tigers, but he's a better pitcher than Maroth, even though he's raw as hell.

Pujols himself is beating the Royals, and could pass the Cubs any day now.

Plus, who does he think he is to reject the extra 't' in his name? We don't need a primadona like him upsetting our clubhouse chemistry if you ask me.

If Contreras grew some nappy hair he would look just like Mr. Eko.

I'm not sure why you're surprised. Has our crowd ever been known for knowledge/passion?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:58 PM) Brandon's gonna wind up with somewhere over 100 innings this year. I have concerns that McCarthy is being used too infrequently this year. Our rotation is made up of five starters who can all eat innings, and with the team's overall talent, we're usually taking a lead into the later innings where the game dictates the use of setup men or closer. McCarthy's on pace to log less than 85 innings this year. I don't know if Contreras or any other starter will miss anymore starts due to injury, but if they don't McCarthy won't touch 100 innings. This team uses a long man out of the pen probably less than any with our staff and Ozzie's bullpen management style. McCarthy threw over 170 innings and over 180 innings in '04 and '05 respectively. At this rate, he'll get maybe half or slightly over half of those innings. I'm reserved about grooming him for a role as a starter by severely shortening his arm.

Garland's batting average against of balls in play last year was .253 which was good for sixth lowest in the American League. Combine this with his low strikeout rate, and I say that Garland's 2005 was the exception, not the norm. Couldn't have worked out any better for him, as he really cashed in on a fortunate season.

I remember Hawk talking about a brawl story yesterday, and he said Joey Cora bit somebody's leg in a pile.

During the slo-mo, while Pods and Barrett are tangled up and falling to the ground, Anderson suddenly flies into the picture from the left and throws a punch with his right hand that grazes Barrett's face as he is tumbling down. Look for his white batting glove connect with Barrett's head while he is dropping. He continues to fly out of the picture after this happens. That is just funny as hell.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 20, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) Pods did not come up swinging, he tackled Barrett, frankly he was lucky Barrett was off balance. I agree. I keep rewatching the video and Barrett actually knocks Podsednik in the head a bit with his left hand.

QUOTE(OilCan @ May 20, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) Wow....even though AJ is about to get cheap-shot, good pics. Yes they are. Will most likely serve as Cub fan avatars for many weeks to come. I'm pissed that Barrett landed that right hook, even though AJ was unexpecting.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 20, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) Some s***ty ABs by our guys in the last 2 innings. We came into the game batting only .240 against left handers, and have been held to only two hits today. Thank god one of them came at the best time possible.

I can never figure out why people throw out magic numbers which Anderson's batting average must be higher than at the end of the season to call him a success. It really is ridiculous. The difference between 10 or 20 batting average points over the course of a season is just a handful of hits. Getting an extra bloop single each month or lining the ball right at someone a few more times than normal will skew results for better or worse. Batting average is just not the metric we should be using to measure anyone's worthiness in their rookie season. All we can hope for is for Anderson is to keep up the stellar defense and work on improving his contact rate at the plate.

I know the park is massive but we're a quarter of the way through this season and Detroit is giving up just over three runs a game. That's tops in both leagues, and we're the next closest in the AL giving up over four and a half runs a game.

The only reason Fields' on-base percentage is over .400 is due to his inflated batting average. He has never been and probably never will be known for his eye or plate discipline at any professional level. I wouldn't call one walk per ten at-bats 'very good' at the AAA level, I'll go with decent. We all know that ratio will decrease upon callup to the Sox. Suggesting him to leadoff is far-fetched. My hope for Fields this season is to keep up the slugging and cut down on some of those K's.
