QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Clemens will never be a Chicago White Sox. I suggest we delete this entire thread, bc he's not coming here. There are three possible places for him to land, if he is even traded from the Astros. 1) NY Yankees - the biggest probability, and I would put money on him landing here. 2) Boston Red Sox - a small chance, but I think he has burned too many bridges, and with Schilling and Wells coming back, the Red Sox just might think they are alright in the starting pitcher department. 3) Texas Rangers - keeps him close to home, and he would be an extraordinary addition to the club. ... not gonna happen) Chicago White Sox - best record in baseball, no where near home, and not a popular enough franchise in MLB... he will be a Yankee. I agree, no chance. I hadn't thought about the Rangers though, very interesting. God that would be huge for them.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Maybe KW will go hard after Clemens, gauge Houston's interests in our prospects, reach a brick wall, and then "settle" for Oswalt. Good luck. That team is 6 games back in the WC and full of confidence that they can win it.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 06:41 AM) This is from Tuesday's Southtown. "While Schmidt would be a nice addition to the starting staff, he is not the whale Williams has on his telescope. Much like Williams had visions of Randy Johnson dancing in his head last season and last offseason, a source has said that Williams will first try to see if prying Roger Clemens from Houston is nothing more than a pipe dream. Williams cannot discuss players on other teams because of tampering rules, but Clemens would be one pitcher the Sox GM would put together almost any package to try to acquire. Such a move would help the Sox and would also keep Clemens from the Yankees and Red Sox, two teams that could make a run at Clemens because of their resources. The problem is that Clemens would have to approve a deal to Chicago, which is unlikely. Second, the Astros don't believe they're out of the NL wild card race." If the Sox got Clemens, the weather report in Hell would be "Record lows - freeze warning today!" I also would prefer that KW not waste time chasing the impossible. But I could fit Roger into the rotation, I suppose. What's the point of this non sense article?? To list all the reasons why something we all know won't happen, won't happen?

ATO: Jenks to Chicago, McCarthy Back to Charlotte

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 5, 2005 -> 06:40 AM) not until the all star break at least, which at that time hopefully El Duque and Marte will be healthy enough to return and walker and jenks prob go back down. Thought so, it just read kinda weird, thx. -
Ozzie's personal relationship with Freddy helped us land him. Besides him, what other top starter have we really been close to getting? Are Contreras and Duque considered top starters?

Will they do the fireworks after the game? They're looking at an 11:15 end time. So much for getting people home early so they can get to work in the morning? How will the delay affect B Mac? wow full house. -

Damn-Ass-Hole Marte, absolutely unpredictable pitch to pitch. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) More and more it sounds like nobody has faith in Contreras or Duque. You know, that might not be a bad thing. I don't think Contreras or Duque have been horrible, but if Oz and KW are unhappy with them, then it shows what they expect from everyone in the rotation 1-5.

QUOTE(drowninginflame @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) sorry dude they ARE wonderful. they have many awesome songs & albums for that matter. one of the greatest bands of all time. dark side of the moon, animals, wish were here are all flawless masterpieces What are you sorry about? We happen to disagree, enjoy yourself.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) You could give Houston the top 4 prospects in the White Sox system, it will not be enough to get Roy Oswalt. Houston signed him to a 2 year extension this off-season, and I believe he is arbitration eligible after that meaning they control him this season + 2 more. I think all the names being thrown around will cost way too much. I'm not saying it's justified, just that the asking price will be high. Especially for us, they know we can almost taste it.
-
QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) Because they can get a lot for Lidge in the meantime, and Lidge will command a very high salary when he hits free agency. Houston is old, and by old I mean VERY old, and they are entering a rebuilding phase, they cannot pay the price for Lidge while trying to move toward a youth movement because by the time that youth is seasoned enough to make a run, Lidge may be worthless to them. Right now the can get a TON for Lidge. I still say we run for Wagner, it's pretty clear he is unhappy where he is and they wouldn't mind unloading him. Wagner doesn't have much longer with how he throws at his age and he wants to win now. He wouldn't refuse a trade to the Sox. Smart money is on a blockbuster deal to aquire Wagner, he can put us over the top. I think Lidge is THE biggest part of the youth movement, he's staying put. Of course there is probably a deal KW could put together to get him, but we'd have to clean house and that would defeat the purpose. They want young starters they can plug in right now. They'd want B Mac and Garland, that would be stupid on our part.

Weather updates? Looks like rain by me. -
Will this event be re televised? When and what station?

I don't feel like reading 15 pages to look for 1 answer. What exactly did Billy Wagner say about his teammates that has all of Philly pissed off at him? Some people are suggesting he'd be a good fit for the Sox. Given KW's fear of ruining the clubhouse chemistry, do you think he'd consider him after this incident? I know AJ had about the worst rep before he got here and he's worked out fine.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) I'm not so sure Schmidt is a great idea unless we get him for almost nothing. His velocity is down from 98 to around 92 and he has a history of shoulder issues. I wouldn't even say it's due to overuse as most Sox pitchers have pitched more innings the past few years then Schmidt has. I believe Schmidt has some sort of degenerative cartalage problem which has been a long time coming. If we can get him at a bargin (ie, hardly giving up anything) then we should do it, he can hardly be any worst than Contreras AND on the upside, Schmidt may regain that velocity (as he has markedly improved the past few weeks before his debacle yesterday). In either case, I'd sooner want to aquire Billy Wagner or Brad Lidge to lock down the 9th, as of late our closers worry me, and Hermanson has gotten extremely lucky the past few outings. In Detroit, those balls hit to the warning track would have been out of any other park, and we subsequently would have lost those games, not won them. I think we need an elite closer that can strike fear into the opponent and press them to score BEFORE the 9th inning comes around. And I know every closer blows saves, but that is not the point...opponents do not fear Hermansons 90mph fastball...but if they see Wagner warming up, they will go into emergency mode in the 8th inning and maybe do something stupid...I mean, as a hitter, who would you rather face...a Hermanson with slightly better than average stuff or a Wagner who can hit 101mph and then drop it down into the 70s?! Besides, a 4th/5th starter will be meaningless in the playoffs, so unless we get someone BETTER than Garland/Garcia, aquiring a starter isn't the right thing to do, and right now Schmidt is NOT better than Garland or Garcia. Wagner wants out, and I think we should make a run at him...he also has an attitude tha would fit with the southsiders. -y2 Forget about Lidge. He is young and makes chump change. Why would they get rid of him?

This is a must see! To me, Snatch is so good that even the fact that he also made Swept Away doesn't matter to me.

Luther was the best at that kind of music. We had someone sing "Here and Now' at our wedding ceremony. RIP Mr. Vandross.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 3, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) Casual fan, versus involved fan. Concept albums are harder for some people growing up on MP3 downloads to get into. Then they must have a ton of those kind of fans.

QUOTE(wsox08 @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) I might go see Bewitched, Will Ferrell fan... DON'T DO IT, IT'S AWFUL.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 2, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) I'm not so certain LMB, think about this for a second. If they changed it to the "Best Player This Season At Every Position Game" I could see the controversy. "Star" is a Hollywood term that I believe exactly describes the game. Some of the players are there for their "star power" and some for their playing. Jeter is as much a celebrity "star" as a baseball "star". Does that make a little sense? The game to me is all about marketing hype in the middle of the summer. People are going on vacations and baseball needs their butts in seats. What better way than to trot out the "names" (re:stars) for an exhibtion game? The names you get excited to see. Very good point. Maybe the all star game is the perfect name for it. Maybe it's the fans that need to not misinterpret it.
