QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) 90% chance of rain from 1:00 PM today to 7:00 AM tommorrow FOLLOWED by 70% chance of rain from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM tommorrow. I'd be OK if Contreras' game got washed tonight. I read that the hammy has been bothering him for a while, it seems like he would benefit from more time off.

I'm a little nervous about Jose and that sore hammy in cold, humid weather.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) I'm wondering what people's reactions would be if one of these games cost us a playoff series. Just a thought. I think about that with every loss. In some ways, yeah it's just one or two games, but if you find yourself saying that over and over, the games adds up.

Wonder how much she wants? This is nothing new, there is a huge black market for this kind of thing. You can get organs, body parts, babies you name it. The 'doctors' that perform the procedures are hacks, so you can imagine the outcome a lot of times.

Sox rated worst franshise to root for
LosMediasBlancas replied to frahungski's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What is it about the Sox that people just hate? Geez, you'd think we'd actually won a WS in the last 50 years. -
Is Contreras gonna throw or are they skipping him for Duque? Injury update?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) Hopefully Kenny Williams gathers up all of these clips, pictures, and everything else, and sends it into the league office... along with a request to never again let this crew work vs the Sox again. Every single questionable call went against the team, along with at least 3 blatantly wrong calls. What for? Have you ever heard of a calls being reversed or games played over? The umps probably sit around and laugh at it. It's OK, we're coming home and gonna kick some Tiger ass. -

Wouldn't the pitch have hit him anyway??? Does it matter?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) There's 1 possible other side here to keep in mind. Dye is a career .270 hitter, who averages roughly 25 home runs a season. He has usually hit extremely well at New Comiskey Park. Right now, he's something like 13 for 80. Eventually, unless he's hiding some sort of an injury right now...he'll snap out of this, and all of a sudden the pendulum will swing the other way and he'll hit .600 for a week or two. It just has to happen. Over the last 2 years...the times he's had the most problems have been when he's been hurt. Last year his hand was broken for about 6 weeks, and his average fell throguh the floor. If he's hurt right now, he shouldn't be in there (and certainly shouldn't be at short.) But if he's not...he's going to snap out of it at some point. The one good thing we can say is that Dye has been hitting the ball hard, or at least he was yesterday. When you hit the ball...eventually it'll start falling. It's still only April 27th. If he's hitting .200 on June 27th, we have a major problem. But right now all we have is a guy in a slump. Jeter started the season in a slump last year for all of the first 2 months, and they still stuck with him. Give the guy time. Although...he really needs to stop costing us games with errors in the outfield. That is unacceptable...especially for a guy who was supposed to be an upgrade on defense over Magglio. That's 2 games by my count. .....and on back to back days, on basically the same throwing error! Inexcusable.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) Haha yeah I had/have an ingrown toenail. They cut half the nail off after numbing it and then go to work on it. It grew back and became ingrown again. I'm too lazy to get it cut again, it's not that bad. I'm thinking something like that is annoying, but you would get used to it. Once your toes are in your shoes, you don't even think about it. AJ might run a tad slower, but he should be fine. I heard that now in some cases, they remove the nail and kill it somehow, so that it doesn't grow back. You never have an ingrown again, but I bet you have one ugly ass toe.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 01:18 AM) Basically, you're saying that you think the ump is wrong, and while you will complete the game, if the president of the league decides that the ump was wrong (in the way you specified), the game will be restarted from the point of the blown call at some later time. If the protesting team wins, it's all thrown out the window. In little league it can be important, b/c the umps may actually be unclear about the rules. But in the majors it's very rare to see anything happen. The George Brett pine tar incident is the only example I can find. That's what I thought, it means nothing and is just a BS way to appease managers and GMs.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) My Grandma. Make that 2 votes for Nuke's G-Ma. Seriously, Dye looks lazy as all hell out there. His swing, his running, his defense, his focus. It doesn't help that he and PK are back to back in the line up and BOTH slumping right now. Ozzie has to break that up, like Friday.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 12:58 AM) No, whether or not the batter tried to avoid the pitch is a so-called judgement call. You can only protest the game if you disagree with the interpretation of the rules, not a judgement call. It would be like protesting over the strike zone, it's not allowed. (With good reason.) Doesn't mean you can't b****, though. (I'm not saying the Sox should or should not -- I haven't seen the play.) Jackie, what does playing the game 'under protest' really mean? You hear it a lot, does anything ever become of it?

Just saw the replay for myself and to me, it looked like Crede did not lean into the pitch. He sure didn't move out of the way, no doubt. It looked like he took a step and his arm moved, sorry. Besides, even if he had been totally still, wasn't the pitch still gonna hit him, looked like it to me, doesn't that matter?
-
Here's an idea, instead of calling Ozzie and warning him about retaliating, why didn't the league make sure that this crew didn't work a Sox series given the history? I never complain about umpires, but GMs need to be able to have some say in these kinds of situations. Why not give GMs the ability to contact the league about bad calls, have the incidents reviewed and maybe take some disciplinary action against the umps? If other sports can challenge officials with replays, why are umps above scrutiny? I'm sure there are probably unions or all kinds of red tape that will keep this from happening, but c'mon, as it stands, the umps can do no wrong and even if they do, there's no penalty. Side note: I feel good about the Sox, even with all the obstacles, they've battled and hung in every game. I think they'll come home, rest, regroup and stomp on the Tigers. This team IS a team of 'grinders'. We gotta let this series go.
