  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Michigan is getting way too much respect in the predictions. Yes, they have a ton of talent, but Amaker has proven to be just like fellow former Dukie Quin Synder (although not nearly as dirty a recruiter or scumbag in general) in that he gets tons of good players, and does nothing with them. But hey, I hope Michigan is real good and makes the tourney, another good big 10 team is nice, and I think the Big 10 is going to be LOADED this year. yeah, i was a little mystified by that. michigan way too high. iowa and ohio state too low.
  2. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 05:56 AM) That Duke team is a little funky. How can you have basically none of their recent stars like Brand, Battier, or Williams? They're making the squads based on college exploits, otherwise the rosters would be different. Regardless, DePaul has had some really good players. Mikan was a superstar, and Aguirre was a beast in college. It's hard to say though, it's all speculation. I think with the big 3 from the early 90's, Dawkins, Brand, Battier, and Williams, I'd like Duke a little more. This isn't the first time this has been done either. It showed up in one of their magazines a while ago. They had UCLA beating UNC in the final, not 100% sure but I think the others of the Final Four were Kansas and Georgetown. Edit- On further analysis, definitely DePaul. Aguirre and Mikan are among the best college players of all time, and they're bolstered by Corzin, Cummings, Richardson, and Strickland. Pretty good if you ask me. people forget how good strickland was. just another example of how being a huge douche will just ruin your professional rep.
  3. i don't really know what to think of hendry. the ramirez, hundley and lee deals were outstanding. the nomar deal was meh, although if murton pans out he may end up being the best part of it. but the inability to address certain key issues on the team (bullpen, hello!) would concern me if i were a cub fan (thank god i'm not). plus his free agency acquisitions have been marginal to bad, no one of any real impact there. i'm also a little mystified by the obsession with furcal. cub fans are falling all over themselves with him supposedly being the ideal lead-off man, but to me furcal has many of the same problems patterson has. i guess they just want the self-flagellation to continue. let's hope it does.
  4. i remember when ned used to write a column in the daily southtown. good luck to him.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) http://www.suntimes.com/output/sports/cst-spt-bear16.html there's a lot in that story. the fbi. guns. barbeque. drinking. fighting. sounds like a good time. where do i sign up?
  6. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) So, I spent last night watching Iowa DESTROY Maryland-Eastern Shore....I need a life. hey, you never know. just ask missouri fans.
  7. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) Rumor is that Bob Huggins might coach Ohio University next year. Also, most of Cinci's recruits said that they will follow where Huggins goes since they have not signed LOIs let. They should be a good team this year, probably again making the Big Dance. Also, next year they have the potential of getting better. you know, i read that, too. i'm just not all that certain that o'shea is going to be offered any big jobs after this year. i mean, i suppose if he takes the bobcats into the round of 16 he'll get looks, but this year they won't be sneaking up on anyone. anyhow, it's funny how things change from one year to the next. last year at this time most ou fans were pining for the days of larry hunter and ready to run o'shea out of town on a rail. this year he's a hot coaching commodity. go figure.
  8. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) I'm trying to not get too excited about my team. Vukusic isn't going to score 28 every game. We need to find other reliable scorers, and Thompson is going to have to stay on the floor and make a bigger impact when we get to Big Ten play. that's still a helluva way to start the season.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) It was like watching rhythmic gymnastics, horrible. i guess the only saving grace is that he doesn't wear tights, which ratchets down the gay level a few notches. still pretty swishy, tho.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) For the record, I'm not a Kansas fan at all. I'm more in the Weber can't recruit to save his life bandwagon. it's a big bandwagon. i'm surprised you have room.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:55 PM) Unless it's a recruiting battle against Bruce Weber. lol. well played.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 04:23 AM) Nope they will be running the motion just it will probably look a lot worse than last year early on. The ball movement and precision required to run the motion isn't quite where it needs to be yet. exactly. people will probably rag on dee early if the offense isn't clicking, but really there's no way to just pick up from last year. since there aren't really set plays in motion, much of it is based on the nuance of understanding what the other guys are going to do. dee, deron and luther played together for so long that their knowledge of each others' ability was almost second nature. that isn't going to happen overnight for this group. i expect illinois to struggle offensively early on, but improve and be a formidable team by the time we get into late january and february. that's fine with me. after last season i am willing to be patient and let this team develop.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 15, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) It was Pittsburg State. I wouldn't get too worked up. hey, when bill self is your coach, no win is guaranteed.
  14. there's no question that we won it last year and that can never be taken away. but like many (most) teams that win it all, we had a fair amount of breaks go our way. that's not something you can count on year-in, year-out. the good thing is we have great pitching, and that is going to take you a long way regardless of circumstance. on the flip side, i'd like to see us have a more consistent offensive team, and that's a possibility. i don't think trying to upgrade the team is a slap at any member of the 2005 white sox. those guys will live in history. their place in sox lore is established. but this team can be better, and if we have to get better by cutting ties with some popular players, so be it.

    Pirates

    pirates kick ass. ahoy mateys!
  16. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) honestly, this article is fine with me. Out of everything surrounded in this topic, the one thing that I could see people getting offended by is the halftime dance. If that needs to be done away with, so be it. At least we're not changing our nickname, which would have been ridiculous. i tend to agree. i've attended a ton of illinois sporting events and i can't say the chief's dance ever really enhanced my experience. if it has to go, i'm cool with that.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) If the angels go after Manny they wont go after Kong IMO. i would love to see that proposed three-team deal go down. that would definitely lighten the market for paulie.
  18. if that's the case, congratulations john on getting a great gig. we're sad to see him go. you guys are getting one of the, if not the best.
  19. i met a lot of guys when i worked in newspapers, but it's not worth listing them because you never know if you're dealing with a genuine person in those situations. when i was younger i met kittle, baines, fisk, salome barojas (don't know why i remember that), at either games or events. a few summers ago i had some pretty good tickets and used to chat with foulke and buehrle before games. both super nice guys. i met terry belle (albert's twin) in the bullpen sports bar a few years back. it was pretty bizarre because i was loaded and at the time i didn't know albert had a twin. at a charity golf outing a few years back i met mario lemieux, george gervin and jan stenerud (biggest nostrils i've ever seen). these days i do a lot of work with archie griffin, so we know each other pretty well. one of the best guys i know.
  20. well paulie and count are up for sportsman of the year. must be a sure guarantee derrek lee gets it.
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) The Bulls have enough money to make a run in the FA market after this year I believe, any idea who will be available? it's a pretty thin market. ben wallace stands out as an intriguing possibility, though.
  22. it's early, but this deal is not looking great for the knicks. they really do have a bad mix of players. brown better reserve another room at the mayo clinic.
