Will the White Sox anchor a new sports radio station in Chicago
thedoctor replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (vandy125 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) I can get them 300 miles away in Iowa (although just barely). I'd hate to lose that. Although, I'd find a different way to listen to the broadcasts. i've had the mlb internet radio broadcast for a few years now and have always enjoyed it. you pretty much get all games in the league for a very affordable price. -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) Good God no. The radio waves seem so much cleaner without mike north. I hope he goes away permanently. Hopefully he ends up in New York or someplace far away from here. i think it's a near certainty that north would be part of the equation if a new station launched. hopefully, though, he'd have a limited presence on the sox broadcasts. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) If we have the same Rios next year that we had in the 2nd half of last year, we're not winning this division. that right there probably sums it all up.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Oh I know, I was just waiting for the inevitable people kissing his ass. I hope it doesn't come off as though I was suggesting you were complimenting or ripping. no worries.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 30, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) Rather than complimenting a writer who actually predicts the Sox to win while others get flamed for predicting the Sox do poorly... Neyer's a f***ing idiot, his argument doesn't make any sense, and even he doesn't know how it all adds up. Obviously he has no credibility. whoa. ease up a bit there. i'm neither complimenting or ripping him. just stating his prediction, that's all.

but he can't seem to figure out how it is working out that way: 88 wins

good story. i tend to like isaacson's work.

peavy. the guy's a competitor and i'm sure it burned his ass that he missed time last year, especially when people doubted he could compete in the al. that, combined with him being probably healthier and more fresh than he's been in awhile lead me to believe he'll have a really good year.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) How has no one mentioned Redamak's yet? I have an urge to just close this thread out of anger. i had redamaks for the first time in years this summer. my wife and i spent a week at my parents' place in three oaks and we made it over there for lunch one day. it was good, but not quite as good as i remembered. still a damn good burger, though.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) I wonder if they find out that he had a heart defect. that was my first thought. i recalled what happened to the southern indiana basketball player the other day and wondered if they'd discover an enlarged heart or some other problem.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) I don't know if this place is still there. They've revamped that area quite a bit. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...&iwloc=addr (click little street level icon) And the construction has long since been completed. it is still there. it's just further east on 95th street, right off of hamilton. there's also one on 95th and cicero and i think a newer one on 159th in orland. edit: and let me say that i agree that top notch is still the best burger i've had (i have had most excepting in and out). amazing french fries and chocolate shakes as well.

i went to the game the night before the sox clinched in 83. the sox won and needed the a's to lose to clinch, but the a's ended up winning. after the sox won i went over the left field fence and went on the field. they cordoned off the infield but there were a lot of people on the field hanging out. before i left the field i pulled up a big handful of grass and some of the warning track gravel. i still have it in a little johnson's baby shampoo bottle. even though the sox didn't clinch that night it was still a great memory.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 01:38 AM) Brace yourself, there will be all kinds of old white men yelling at the TV this season: "Turn that damn hat straight". "back in my day we kept our hats straight and clean. we didn't let our skin get that color, either."

we'll all be better off when the cowley offseason subplot goes away.

QUOTE (Ranger @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) I'd like to think that without the Thome-PK-Dye trio in the middle of the order, the offensive mindset of the guys playing will have to change. To me, having those three guys when they were killing it (2006) was about as good as it could possibly get in the heart of any batting order. The problem is that if even one of those guys begins to disappear (2007, 2008, 2009), the players' mindset doesn't change because they've been used to it a certain way: the rest of the lineup is still waiting on those big boys to get it done, even though one or two of them is struggling. So, essentially, the team will go through stretches where they're waiting on a black hole to drive in their runs. That leads to a LOT of low-scoring games. I know a lot of fans hate the heavy reliance on the HR, but if you can ever have a 3-4-5 and good as those three guys were in '06, you'd be insane not to be happy with that. Now, since it's going to be nearly impossible to duplicate that again, I'm hoping next year's offense is more versatile and 6 guys aren't always waiting on the other 3 to do the heavy-lifting. Teahen was on the show with us this past Saturday (excuse the plug, but here's the link if you want to hear) and I asked him about the approach playing in the Cell and how players are affected subconsciously because of the tendency to be HR-friendly. And he said something telling, I think, that when he was with KC, they viewed the Sox players as waiting for the guys in the middle of the order to hit the HR. I'm wondering if maybe without that "safety net" for the other guys, if the offense as a whole will do a better job of working together to score runs instead of relying on 2 or 3 guys to do all the work. Obviously, I'd rather have 4 badasses in the middle of the order that I know are going to rake every night, but there is more than one way to have a decent offense. And when it comes down to it, presumably with this rotation, the Sox don't have to have a top 5 offense...they just can't afford to have a bottom 5 offense. and welcome aboard, chris. no need to apologize for promoting your stuff. there's a little shameless self-promoter in all of us. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 10:56 PM) Kenny's quote makes me wonder what he thinks our record will be if the season started tomorrow. Do we magically become a division champ and WS contender just because of Peavy, Teahen and Hudson being added and Dye, Thome off the team? If we have no glaring holes in the GM's mind, I would think he'd get rid of Ozzie if we play slightly below .500 ball again as next season plods along. The way Jerry and KW talk, we've got all the talent we need. So we better be way better than a .500 team or it's somebody's fault. I prefer to say they've overrated our talent, including bullpen and lineup's ability to produce runs. But they are paid to judge talent and they think it's great, so let's see it in the W-L column, Kenny and Oz. i tend to think people shouldn't take every word that comes out of kw's mouth as gospel. -

not surprising. kw essentially said the same thing weeks ago. non-story, imo. there will be moves made, they just won't be big-time fa deals. -
i saw him on the dogs 101 program on animal planet a few weeks ago. great show in general if you love dogs.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) I wouldn't even bother to respond directly to Cowley. All it does is lend credence to his opinions. It would be better to respond by touting your own website and the long history that you have had with the original soxnet, soxtalk and of course the gold standard for whitesox prospect information futuresox.com. His attack is that this is some sort of blog that was just created. You attack that with facts. And the facts are that this is a new blog that is based on a long respect history of sox information. And for all those who feel the need to avenge this by sending a profanity based diatribe. Think before you send. Its one thing to send a response in email. Its another to send emails that say "Dear f***face". Jason will handle this himself. I don't think email bombing Cowley is going to help things out. agree 100 percent. you are probably going to provide cowley more entertainment and jollies than making him re-think his position.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 12:48 AM) I don't want to come across as overly critical, but this is such a ridiculous story. Teams have preliminary talks about players all the time - how is this newsworthy? Konerko would be a horrible trade for the Angels and they have no need of him. I know this is the offseason and we don't have a lot to talk about, but can we refrain from this silly trade talk? It comes off very Cub fan-like. two points: -one, since when did message boards become places that are supposed to be bastions of truth and reality? any message board (cub, sox, yankees, name a team) spends a good deal of time as a speculation machine. so i'm not sure what you're really getting at with that. -two, i agree wholeheartedly with your point that teams have preliminary trade talks all the time and that the fact that talks happened ("talks" could mean one phone call, really) don't mean much in regards to a deal being consummated. personally i don't find the deal as mentioned remotely realistic, but it doesn't mean it hasn't been discussed. and it doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss it here. personally i'd rather discuss this than ruminate over the sox payroll or whether ozzie ball ever really existed or not for the umpteenth time.
