  1. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 31, 2012 -> 03:37 AM) twitter making it sound like soto to the mets. maybe johnson to detroit? thomas collier was pulled from his start. wrong and wrong.

  3. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:54 PM) That supports why you don't trade him. right. as i said, the only way you would do it is if it somehow it allowed you to acquire another starter. one of the rumors prior to greinke signing with the angels was that floyd would be dealt for a package of prospects that could be paired with existing talent and allow kw to get a top-flight starting pitcher.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) Don't want him. Dodgers are going to get him for a steal. cubs are almost better off holding onto him, offering him a one-year tender in the offseason, then hoping he turns them down and picking up a pick. of course, he could take the tender and then they'll be in the same position next year.
  5. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) Kenny could be on of those as well. I really don't get the idea of trading Floyd. Of all of the starters he has the least ? the only reason you trade floyd is if it's to get some prospects you can subsquently flip for another starter. this team needs six starting pitchers for the rest of the year. it is essential, imo.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 05:53 PM) I think KW is looking for a reliever and back up infielder. Its fun to speculate on huge pieces and if the deal was right, I'm sure he'd pull the trigger, but I'm thinking small pieces is what he's trying to accomplish. I think Lee is owed about $80 million the next 3 years. I think there's a better chance KW brings back Ozzie than Cliff Lee. reliever and back-up infielder sound right to me. i don't see a big deal. and looking at the last year of lee's deal, no thanks.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) I would love Masterson on the Sox. he'd be great in the cell.
  8. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 03:25 PM) They are. Particularly while watching the Sox success. In general, they have very knowledgeable fans... above average knowledge of Sabr stats, etc. And they are irritated as hell watching Antonini/Shapiro get pantsed by KW. yeah, i live in ohio and hear about it plenty. my facebook feed last night was full of anger and resentment when the choo stuff surfaced. if the indians weren't among my least favorite teams, i'd probably feel a little more sympathy. i wonder if perez will have more to say about it being the fans' fault.
  9. if i was an indians fan i'd be pretty pissed off. antonetti/shapiro seem to need very little motivation to sell off. almost the anti-kenny inasmuch as they are forever trading top guys away for good prospects. but every time those prospects prove themselves on the major league level, they get dealt for more prospects and the process repeats itself.
  10. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 03:22 AM) I thought I saw a thread before about Blanton and Victorino going to the Dodgers but it appears that thread was pulled. I can't find any reports anywhere on that trade even rumored to have taken place. What happened? it was posted on a fake twitter account.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 12:03 AM) One of the big points of Liriano is he provides the Sox with a lot more depth in the rotation. He might also provide them with a front line pitcher (depending on if he pitchdes up to his capabilities). But the big thing is he's a quality arm that gives the Sox the ability to rest Q/Sale and/or sustain another injury to the rotation. In a perfect scenario, the Sox have 7 good starters (with Humber, Liriano, Q, Floyd, Danks, Peavy, and Sale). agreed. given that q and sale are in uncharted territory i thought it was essential to add another starter, at a minimum to eat innings down the stretch and rest those guys. to get someone with this kind of potential upside for pretty much nothing is a great move.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) An MRI showed that Garza still has fluid in his triceps, won't pitch til after deadline. There goes his trade value. normally i would never draw pleasure from someone else's misfortune, but... ...lol
  13. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:42 PM) King Felix. Man if KW pulled that off, I'd shoot whoever says anything bad about him ever again. it would be pants tightening, no doubt.
  14. not an exclamation, but i always got a chuckle when he'd say, "he reached back and put an extra six inches on that one" when a pitcher got a guy to swing and miss on some gas.
  15. i agree that the tigers aren't that good. we aren't, either. this is pretty much the main reason i'm not in an "all-in" type mode and demanding kw make a corollary move to what the tigers just did. we all know the central is weak. and in that weak division, the sox could absolutely win and head into the playoffs. where do we stack up from there, though? (and yes, i know, once you get in anything can happen.)
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) Agree completely, I've never seen a fan base so eager to quit and start selling. We were in first place as recently as two days ago. We are currently 1 1/2 games out of the division lead and 1 game out of a wild card spot. There is still a ton of baseball left and we're right there. The non-stop panic on this site really needs to stop. if you'd have told me before the season we'd be 1.5 out of first on july 23, i'd have turned cartwheels. with that said, there are a number of reasons i have doubts we'll be legit playoff contenders from here on out. i would never advocate white flag trades, but i think kw has to be judicious with any moves he makes at this point.
  17. he's a pos, but we need veteran relief help and he can provide that. good onfield pick-up.
  18. i don't feel like we have what it takes to get greinke, but you might as well get involved if for no other reason than to drive up the price.
  19. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) I disagree that Cowley has absolutely no baseball insight, but he is so jaded by the dynamic between Ozzie and KW that he just cannot express any insight anymore. I have listened to him on Hit&Run a few times, and he has had some interesting things to say, but as soon as he can he injects Ozzie into the discussion and it just becomes the same thing. I listened for 5 minutes the other day on my way to Jewel, and within those 5 minutes he managed to say "You know I was talking to Walker in the offseason, and he said to me 'You wouldnt believe some of the stuff going on in the clubhouse last season, it was unbelievable and unprofessional'" Well of course Walker is going to say that, the guy left with an obvious chip on his shoulder and was blamed for a lot of the hitting problems(rightly or wrongly, Im not looking to get into a debate over it DA). He isnt going to have anything nice to say. Now that he is "neutered" I have seen some of articles, and he has been staying out of baseball talk a lot. This last article was a lot of the old stuff though, very disappointing. agreed. i actually really enjoyed cowley when he first got to chicago and was working for the southtown. i thought he often did a better job of handling the beat than some of the other guys at the time. i thought the s-t made a great hire when they brought him on after padilla left. but the ozzie/kw stuff just totally changed his approach to his work. he moved from reporter to entertainer, and while there's a market for both, he isn't as good at the latter.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 01:49 PM) Liriano's been ridiculously good lately. He's got a 3.33 ERA in June to go along with a 2.93 FIP. He's striking out over 9 per 9 again and he's keeping his walks down. he's no jose quintana.
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 1, 2011 -> 06:06 AM) do you trust ken williams with this decision? i don't. while kw's made his share of bad deals (particularly of late), i think it's unfair to make it out like he gets fleeced every time or is completely incapable of making a good deal. we wouldn't even be having this discussion if he hadn't pantsed texas a few years ago.
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 04:36 PM) Better than saying people who aren't 100% are in denial, yeah. Anyway, first off, I would contend that having an inexperienced manager is maybe not a sign of rebuilding. If I wanted to rebuild, I'd want someone around who knew how to manage young players. But I do agree to an extent on the other two factors. Season tickets are going down very slightly (a couple %), which is a nod to the poor performance and bad economy, but also could signal a need to cut salary numbers. And I am sure KW is listening to all sorts of offers, so there is no doubt that a full-on rebuild may indeed occur. But I think he hasn't decided, and he won't until he thinks he can't wait anymore on the decision on Buehrle. my reference to people wanting to admit it or not is more a reference to kw coy approach (denial?) than to posters here. i haven't visited enough lately to know whether or not it's an issue that's being debated regularly. each of the individual factors you noted are valid. but as a sum total i'm drawing my conclusion that we are heading to a rebuild. which is fine. i've never really been sure if "rebuilding on the fly" is a strategy that can be executed successfully.
