  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 03:06 AM) I just read the Boston perspective ala SoSH and of course they were dismissing Moncada and Kopech as lottery tickets, but seemed to think Devers, Swihart and Groom are locks to be perennial all stars. Bottom line is there is certainly more risk on the White Sox side of things, however, the White Sox obviously get a high potential reward as well. The most interesting thing is while both of these prospects have HIGH ceilings, they also have some low floors. Here's hoping it works out. no doubt. there is inherent risk in trading for guys who haven't done it at the mlb level year-in and year-out as sale has. that's part of the reason to trade everyone now. increase the volume of prospects and you're increasing the chances of them hitting. add a year or two of picking in the top-10, and you could have something special. operative word being "could," of course.
  2. it's entirely reasonable to be worried. i'm worried. i don't have some great confidence that they will do this the right way, but the organization has been stuck for quite some time. to me, there is at least some value in the acknowledgement that what they have been trying is not working. there's no guarantees in this or anything, but to keep trying the same thing was maddening on a level that goes beyond just playing bad baseball.

  4. so very sorry. condolences and peace to you and your family.
  5. i don't really feel like going round and round with that guy.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 25, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) Wow, you know your offense is in trouble when you're starting both catchers. We really need to get another bat ASAP. even worse when you do it and it looks like an improvement.
  7. everyone's trying too hard. they're making a slump a death spiral.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 10, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) To me, the best way to improve is to play against the best players out there, that's where I'll always disagree with everyone. He's proven he's mentally tough enough to bounce back if and when he falters so lets get him up here and play against the best competition possible. He's not fully developed of course but to me this is the best possible thing for his development. i also think that if you are looking at the window of contention hahn has mentioned, ta represents the best opportunity to add an impact player without overpaying through free agency or trades and just hoping. i don't think he'll be a difference maker this year, but i do think he can equal the production we were getting at the position while getting the seasoning he needs to more fully realize his potential next year and the following.
  9. i'm excited to see him. can't remember the last time we had a positional prospect i was so excited about. i'm really not worried about him being damaged long-term if he struggles here -- he's pretty much struggled and overcome at every level. speaks well to his make-up, imo.
  10. at this point it's better than mortgaging our limited future, i guess.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) This is the team you root for though. This is what they do. They are going for it. They are going for it next year. They aren't rebuilding. I wish they would spend $25-$30 million in the international market but they just don't do it. How did they deplete their system with this move? I'd argue that they could trade Shields in 2 months and acquire more than they gave up. I am looking at it as just what it was. Acquiring a middle of the rotation pitcher for a cheap price because he was available in a year where they think they could make the playoffs. It also doesn't really hamper them going forward. They are in at this point though and basically have no choice but to go for it. yep. at this point the dice has been cast. there isn't going to be any sitting on prospects or waiting for them to develop (other than anderson, who i don't think they will trade). they have said they are going for it for the next few years, so none of this should be surprising. the shields deal fits this strategy perfectly. now you may not like the strategy. i know i'm not sure i do because it's highly doubtful in my mind that they'll win a series by piecemealing it. but this is the strategy they are following and i guess i can't complain if they state the strategy, then do things that fit perfectly within it. and i do think we'll get a bat but it's going to come at a much steeper price than shields, imo. that one is going to hurt.
  12. hahn's consistently talked about this team's window of contention. with that timetable in mind, the deal makes sense whether or not they contend this year.
  13. 3-4 with an rbi tonight. /shrug
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 25, 2016 -> 11:50 PM) I see this has become KW's fault again on here. Can always count on that. you can set your watch by it.
  15. i could do without it, but conducting 162 post game interviews means some dumb ish is going to get asked.
  16. wait, did he use "jacob turner" and "fully healthy" in the same sentence? ok, then.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 03:43 AM) I we certain that wasn't a timed tweet from Nightengale? lol. perfect.
  18. QUOTE (ChicagoHeel @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 04:43 AM) You have to be one lame jerk to post false info on Twitter. I hope all these guys claiming to have sources are telling the truth. twitter is about 95 percent "lame jerks." and welcome to soxtalk!
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 05:01 AM) Let me put it this way. From what I hear the FO is relieved that Shark didn't take the deal that was on the table. That number has come and gone. If he wants a short term cheaper deal including a one year that's his only option with the white sox. i know i'm sure as hell relieved.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 11:59 PM) Yeah, Walsh is really the only guy that comes close. Maybe Pierce. Most of our pitchers have been so overrated by us Sox fans... LaMarr Hoyt, Jack McDowell, Mark Buehrle, etc. are so much worse than SoxTalk posters seem to think. Don't get me wrong, they're good, but their stats really aren't great. i'd take issue with buehrle being included here. the guy has been remarkably consistent for an extended period of time, thrown a no-no and perfect game and has a ring. i don't think he's a hall of famer, but if he decided to pitch another five or six years (which i think he could, but won't) i think he'd have numbers that would put him in the hof conversation. he's never been the most dominant pitcher, but there are few who can match the extended consistency he's had.
