  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 30, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) These sorts of posts amuse me. There is no "this" yet, so how can you possibly say what it is? Maybe it SHOULD be one, but I love how everyone is already deciding that the future is so predictable. Especially with Kenny in charge. i'm glad i can provide amusement. here: it's my strong opinion that this is a rebuild. hiring a manager with no previous mlb coaching experience, cutting ticket prices, and letting it be known that your best guys are available would seem to be fairly obvious factors indicating this is the case. better?
  2. not surprising. this is a rebuild whether or not anyone wants to admit it.
  3. pretty mild. you'd have to guess cowley was hoping he'd get something more incendiary since he's running out of these stories. and lol at the s-t pitching this as an exclusive. no information in there that hasn't been discussed extensively over the past few weeks.
  4. the sox aren't going to win anything by trying to be more popular than the cubs. they aren't, and aren't going to be. that battle is over. what they can do is win games and attract casual fans to the park. nothing past that makes much of a difference in terms of boosting their bottom line.
  5. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:02 PM) Don't know if this was posted if it was I'm sorry. Olberman on Ventura http://keitholbermann.mlblogs.com/2011/10/...w-leads-batmen/ good read.
  6. every day that passes, stories about the ozzie/kw rift and all of the things that grew out of it get less and less relevant. eventually, the writer is going to run out of new angles to take on essentially the same story. clicks on those stories are going to decrease and likely his leash will shorten. we can all be happy with that. the sad thing to me is that back in the day this guy was a pretty damn good reporter. he just started believing he was part of the game. it's too bad because he had potential if he was willing to do more than just claim a schtick and stick to it.
  7. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 03:42 AM) He was???? yep. glib. entertaining. candid. willing to say whatever he wanted to say regardless of consequence. all things that are loved by the folks you hold a conference call/press conference for.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 03:19 AM) He's probably been a part of 5 press conferences in his life before. He's played in two-thousand some MLB games...he'll get accustomed to the press conferences...Jesus, drop it seriously. how he performs on a conference call has zero correlation to how well or poorly he'll perform as sox manager next year. ozzie was great on conference calls and most couldn't wait to run him out of town.
  9. this may have already been covered here, but is he sabr-inclined at all?
  10. van dyck talks to maddon, martinez about sox job
  11. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) Rogers was actually speculating that Duncan could join LaRussa as our bench coach. well, then now i'm convinced he's retiring.
  12. wow, an Ncorgbl reference. blast from the past.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) I have a hard time seeing LaRussa coming to Chicago w/o Dave Duncan. They seem to be a package deal. there has been some discussion that duncan will be done with baseball after this year. his wife is very ill. that said, i don't see larussa coming here. no special insight on that, just an opinion.
  14. QUOTE (qwerty @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 05:58 AM) So i was sitting here noshing on something delicious, and i was hit by an idea. Only one thing could possibly top the removal of ozzie guillen. ... and that would be if greg permanently forgot his password. I'm not the religious type... but you better believe me, i pray of it happening on a daily basis. Those trolls roaming around are too much to bear, they suck. Less than greg sucks... but they suck nonetheless. Greg is stronger than ever now. Think about it, he has a god damn posse of invalids at his beck and call to jam their pea-brained ideas down our throats. Please suspend me like i asked last time. When i am able to come back... just give me access to SLaM until noted otherwise. After all, there will always still be the filibuster, and i enjoy a good laugh as much as the next guy. i have no idea why anyone even continues to engage him on this topic.
  15. if the report from the other thread is right then ozzie told cora he'd be interim, not kw. if that was the case, it's not at all surprising why kw put the kibosh on. and really, it is inconsequential at this point. they can pull a guy from the stands to do the job for all i care. the best thing about these two games will be when they, and this whole disgrace of a season are over.
  16. curious. so many questions surrounding the future of the team. do they begin with a gradual deconstruction of this roster, spend more money and go all in again, or just start a massive sell-off now? who's the manager? how long of a leash does kw have? and all that's before i get to the roster and the various questions around dunn, sale, peavy, rios, morel, beckham, flowers, de aza, and other guys who's careers could take different directions going forward. should be an interesting few months, for sure.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 03:37 AM) No he is in lineup right now. and hit a home run tonight.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:51 AM) Someone had to educate me on the excitement surrounding Davey Martinez? All I know is the players wives need to watch out. probably would rule out sandberg to the cubs.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 02:06 AM) Personally, I think this is a sad day. It had to happen, but the guy who led us on that great voyage is departing. totally agree. he's given a ton to this organization and i hope folks don't overlook that in their glee. nothing to celebrate here.
  20. cowley with the last story he'll ever break for the sun-times.
  21. if that happens, i'll probably first think about bruce chen owning us.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 06:42 PM) Yeah, clearly everything would be better if you stopped answering questions from the press! Then we could be pissed at how arrogant you are for thinking you don't need to talk to the media too! lol. so true.
  23. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) this is a disaster c'mon. hyperbole much?
  24. i couldn't care less if cooper is arrogant or rude to reporters or fans or whomever. i want him to do his job and coach pitchers who succeed. he does that so he's fine with me.
  25. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Milkman, in the "end of Ozzie" thread you just argued that an '11 Sox division title is worthless in and of itself, and yet somehow in this thread Twins division titles are in and of themselves meaningful? if the sox had six meaningless titles in nine years, it would be not only meaningful, but dynastic.
