  1. bowden: Confirmed....3 Teams are still "in" on Adam Dunn: Detroit, Chicago WS and Tampa Bay....50/50 he's moved....Confirmed
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Talk Griffey Jr. out of retirement? jurassic part trey?
  3. i don't like the rumored deal at all but i'll give kw the benefit of the doubt and hope that it's part of a larger plan. no reason to go into overreaction mode when there could be other moves that follow. on sunday night, i will overreact if this gets done and it's the only deal.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 08:10 PM) More Buster Olney: Heard this: The White Sox are saying internally that they are currently out of the mix on Dunn gamesmanship.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Can the Nationals risk another Soriano situation where they only get draft picks for a top guy? i can't see it. i just think they're going to push it out until sunday and hope someone comes through with a better offer than the sox.
  6. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) Assuming some level of rationality (maybe a mistake), isn't it better for the Cubs to trade Lilly to the Cardinals at this point? Lilly is only under contract for this year, when the Cubs are out of it anyway. They can grab a prospect or two from the Cardinals, potentially coming out ahead after this year. I don't see much downside to a trade within the division in that scenario. under that scenario it doesn't really matter where they trade him, sox or cardinals. but if you are factoring in the cub fanbase's desire to see a team fail the cardinals>>>>>>white sox.
  7. if we're going to add a middling starter i'd much prefer westbrook to lilly. he seems like a better fit to me.
  8. just an amazing stretch of baseball. kudos to the team and ozzie for pulling it together.
  9. at the very least i'm grateful that it looks like the sox could play some meaningful baseball this year. a few weeks ago i was almost sure it was over.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) How stupid is Joe Cowley that he can't figure out that this is a part of Kenny Williams job? I don't ever recall a Joe Cowley article on the plight of the Chicago Sun Times and what their steady spiral down the toilet has done to the quality of his newspaper. Why? BECAUSE IT IS HIS JOB TO SELL NEWSPAPERS, NOT TO BE HONEST. But then again I am sure when his mom tells me that "nothing is wrong" he believes her. Kenny Williams, nor anyone else in the organization, believes half of the stuff that they say on this topic. This is what they have to say. Anyone who can't figure that out deserves the Darwin Award that is in their future. i'm fairly certain he knows. it appears he's being intentionally obtuse and making a column out of it. he could also be pissy since kw isn't giving him good material.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) I know this...they're a lot more likely to be poured back into the club if they do exist. fair point, and if i felt four million was the difference between us being a contending team and not, i'd likely be more enthusiastic about the idea.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 19, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) Most of us have mentioned unloading him for the cost savings. I think most people realize he won't net you much in return with regards to prospects. still, if i thought the four million we could save was going to spell the difference going forward, perhaps i'd be more excited about the idea. unfortunately, none of us can claim to know that those savings are going to be poured back into improving the club.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 19, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) Ok, so let me ask you this. Does one underwhelming season justify destroying a potentially outstanding core for the sake of rebuilding? it depends on your definition of unloading, i suppose. as i think i stated clearly, i'm not in favor of gutting the roster and starting over. i don't think the organization can afford to do that. the words "potentially outstanding core" worry me. i'd agree that on paper, there are pieces here that have value, no doubt about that. we just aren't seeing that potential right now, so what is the length of life on potential? i'd agree that two underwhelming months isn't long enough to determine. but if we're 14 games out by mid-june, then what? in terms of what it would take to break up that core, it just depends what you get offered. it amuses me that a.j. is being discussed so extensively. we aren't going to get squat for a.j. and clearly he isn't going to bring in someone you can hang a rebuilding project on.
  14. i'm not against unloading, particularly because i do think that there are seasons where at least privately you acknowledge that you are not going to contend. i'd imagine that there are many, many gms who go into a season clearly understanding that they do not have a playoff team and don't intend to pursue one. so if you unload with the thought of stepping back so you can step forward, that's ok in my estimation. and has been previously noted, now might be the time since it's clear that a significant roster overhaul is imminent any way. i wouldn't do it today because it is still early, but give it another week or two and then see where you were at. at the same time, i'm not sure the white sox are positioned to go into a major rebuilding mode. the team needs the casual fans and those folks only come out to the park when there is at least the glimmer of a winner. as long as the team budget is tied closely to attendance, it's difficult to imagine a scenario where you embark on an extended rebuilding plan. i'm not sure how smart that would be.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) Not to mention that this will give Hudson a chance to prove that last year's dominance wasn't a fluke. Therefore increasing his already pretty solid trade value. Best case scenario would definitely be Santos flourishing (or at least pitching well) this spring and Hudson in the minors. this is a great point. i am not sure how hudson can enhance his value by pitching limited innings in relief and his value to someone else is as much of the part of the equation as his value to the white sox is.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) Andruw Jones wasn't exactly busting it around the bases against the Cubs, although they may have told him to take it easy running the bases. Of course they had him stealing so who knows. They addressed it, he'll loaf again, just about every Major League player loafs down the line on routine plays. I think they just want to send a message to him. He hasn't accomplished anything yet. He can act like a big shot when he becomes one. He looks real pudgy to me. I have the feeling they were hoping he reporting to spring training a little less soft. fixed.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) It bugs me that nobody corrects them. Getting the names right should be an important thing in broadcasting. they're probably just happy he isn't saying it the way 95 percent of baseball fans do.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...or-viciedo.html mlb network is filming the sox today as well for their reality series. you'd imagine this piece will become a segment.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 04:10 AM) I really can't stand when people who aren't on twitter bad mouth it. I get it you think it's just people saying "i'm eating cereal!" but really if that's all that's on your twitter page you just should stop following your boring friends and find the gems...like roger ebert. true story. i've found twitter to be very useful, particularly as a way to follow breaking news and up to the moment insights from great people (ebert's is indeed a must-read). twitter is just like any message board (albeit more brief). there are plenty of people posting great stuff and plenty of people posting crap. the great thing is you can pick what you want and dismiss the rest.
  20. at this point i'd rather stand pat than reach. it's my assumption that kw is watching the market closely with an eye towards making a deal if the projected need for another bat becomes a real one.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 09:24 PM) The rumors that Damon is more about the money then winning appears to be correct. probably true, but it's not like we offer a significantly better chance at winning than detroit does.
  22. QUOTE (quickman @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) Ok, you may know better as you follow the board closer than I do. That said, his source may not be at liberty to say anything and this silence is consistant with the media shutting down on this topic as well. I only suspect that he has two offers and is taking the weekend to decide which one to take. It appears each is different in structure and there are many moving parts including his agent, family, Union and his personal feelings. This is not unlike any other job in life when one has mulitple opportunities that will involve moving, money and lifestyle. A couple of days to think does not reflect negatively on either side of the ledger right now. agree completely. needless to say this is a big decision for damon and his family. he should take the time he needs. if it's us, great. if not, i hope he enjoys looking up at us in the standings all year.
