  1. am i wrong on this or isn't teahen a butcher at third?
  2. direct link to beckham podcast some good stuff here, particularly about thome.
  3. pretty positive assessment from a normally snarky guy on a team that underachieved. speaks to the good vibes folks have going into next year, i'd imagine.
  4. end of this article: trib just thought this needed a bump.
  5. QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) I like the bunting they put up come playoff time. ^this. and another bunting opinion. when it comes to fourth of july decorating, bunting>flags.
  6. gonzalez did acknowledge this was mostly baseless speculation on his part lest anyone get their hopes too high.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 02:21 AM) I'd rather see Jake than Torres. I bet you if we were mathematically eliminated, we wouldn't see Peavy this year. It's probably a way to say we haven't given up and it might add some fans in the stands, too. I just hope he doesn't get hurt in a meaningless outing or two. given investment the white sox have made in peavy (an investment that really goes against their sop in terms of starting pitching) i find it highly unlikely they'd let him pitch if there was a chance of exacerbating an existing injury. but excepting that, i fail to see why he shouldn't pitch. if he is healthy why not? his chances of being randomly hurt in a game are no greater now than they'll be in april, or next june, or next october.
  8. it's good to see rios is already well on his way to becoming a popular soxtalk whipping boy.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 01:30 AM) They did Thome a favor and saved $1 million. Now if the impossible happens and the Sox go on a roll and make the playoffs and play the WS vs. the Dodgers and Thome DH's against the Sox and helps the Dodgers win, KW will never be able to live it down. However, odds are pretty long that scenerio plays out. if we somehow make the world series i doubt kenny's going to have anything to be ashamed of.
  10. QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) Would getting some other players ABs to see what we may have for next season while being out of it for this season change that? There is no reason to have a 39 year old DH when were done. i like the idea of getting flowers more at-bats. sure. flowers is who we're really talking about. none of the other guys who are recalled to this point are part of the future. whether or not d-weezy or fields gets a lot of at-bats is somewhat besides the point. off the top of my head it's escaping me who else we are going to see who it would be worthwhile to evaluate other than flowers. that said, flowers was getting recalled regardless. so he was going to be on the club and get some major league looks this year one way or another. but it's not like he's taking all of what would have been thome's at-bats so how many extra at-bats are we really talking about? at any rate, i don't want to belabor the point. like most here i think we're done. i guess i'm just not hugely comfortable giving away a key offensive player with a month to go when we've got a fair amount of games against the teams ahead of us. that's all.
  11. i have mixed feelings on the trade. i do like it when organizations do nice things for players and i'd love to see jim thome get a ring. his chances are better with the dodgers, no doubt about that. at the same time, kw's job to to put the best possible sox team on the field, not do favors for good guys. as soon as they traded him a bad sox team got worse. this strikes me as a more impulsive move than i'm used to seeing out of kw.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxlove @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 06:26 PM) Why is Buehrle turning his head like that?? they probably had the pitchers strike a different pose when they did their pr shots. which makes it look odd when photoshopped together.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) You are stubborn. I don't know why you think our bullpen is magically going to start getting people out and why our defense is going to become adequate all of a sudden. it's baseball. inexplicable things happen often. really, though, the bullpen and defense problems would be less acute if we were hitting remotely close to what folks expected.
  14. great to see he's ok. i was getting worried after some of the armchair doctors in the other thread were predicting gloom and doom. i never knew you could accurately assess someone's health by reading newspaper quotes but apparently some here possess that ability.
  15. with the way relievers go it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he was a stud next year. if david aardsma can rack up 30-plus saves for a team that's better than ours then it's hardly out of the realm of possibility that pena could be a real asset at some point. it does still suck we gave up allen for him, though.
  16. if dye starts pouting and acting like a biznotch then sure.
  17. it's hard to point to peavy and say that he is the one who's going to make a significant tangible difference as it relates to the sox turning around their fortunes. at best he'll have six or seven starts to end the season and even if they are all quality starts there's no guarantee you win (see the past two nights). i guess the only hope is for the intangible, that somehow his presence and attitude combined with solid pitching provides the spark that's been missing all year.
  18. QUOTE (HeGone33 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) That's what makes him suck IMO, he will be critical but he will never be positive when good things happen, if he is it's always with some smart a@@ comment related. i do think cowley goes out of his way trying to be witty sometimes and that can be annoying as well as miss the mark. for the most part though i think he's solid as a beat guy.
  19. cowley just said on the score that peavy is throwing now. he said he's made significant improvement from yesterday's range of motion.
  20. heck yeah. i'm always in until we're mathematically eliminated. even then i'm technically in, the team just isn't.
  21. they'll probably have a pretty good idea after his bullpen session tomorrow. trib story
  22. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) You can play noon games before fox coverage but it is local only. No directv and probably no superstation coverage it is listed on both the superstation web site and my local programming schedule (in ohio). normally if it isn't on out here it will never be listed and instead replaced by a kojak marathon or something.
  23. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) So just for clarification there hasn't really been confirmation, but just speculation? Or has someone talked to Peavy or his agent? http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws That linky makes it seem like nothing has been decided, at least, internally. Maybe I miss it somewhere in this thread. i think it is mostly speculation at this point (change the thread title perhaps?). peavy was supposed to join the team today. i'd imagine he'll meet with kw, tell him how he feels, and they'll make a decision based on that. the original schedule seemed to be three starts. that was adjusted after his last start to maybe four, but perhaps after last night's showing they move back to three. my guess (hope?) is that they will be extra precautious. but if he comes in and says he's ready to go (which he hinted at last night) then i'm not sure how you hold him off. clearly there's a need.
  24. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 07:13 AM) Sat's game is a day game. 1:05 ET, which means the rest of us won't see it. If he starts then, then 5 days later is the Cubs game, which is a problem. strange. it's listed both on the wgn america site and my dvr as scheduled to start at 1 p.m. here on wgn. the game is down to end at 4 (when the fox game starts) so there really wouldn't be the problem of competing for coverage. in terms of the cub game i'm less concerned. if they don't want him to pitch that game he won't. pushing him back a day would hardly be a point of contention at that point.
