  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) A single A reliever at that. John Link, Class A pitcher i've seen this posted a few places here but has it been confirmed anywhere?
  2. kyle lohse to phillies for double-a pitcher (maloney)
  3. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) how many more times can this be posted? one... Jermaine Dye-OF-White Sox Jul. 30 - 2:35 pm et The Boston Globe's Gordon Edes says the Red Sox will not part with either Manny Delcarmen or Justin Masterson along with Wily Mo Pena for Jermaine Dye. Then they're probably not going to get a deal done. Edes says the Red Sox won't give up the young pitcher for a rent-a-player, but it's not just Dye -- it's also the draft picks he'd bring. Masterson was a second-round pick in 2006. The Red Sox would get at least one pick better than that next year if they brought in Dye now and then let him go as a free agent.
  4. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) Throw out Masterson, insert Hansen, and I like the trade. I don't know what Masterson's stuff is like, but those stats seem to imply that he is not that good. 4.33 ERA and 56 Ks in 95.2 IP in A+ seems like a non prospect to me. This seems similar to the Gooch trade where we are giving a player away for nothing of value. did you look at his numbers since his promotion to double-a?
  5. braves closing in on dotel, too: rosenthal
  6. masterson's been tearing it up in portland.
  7. rosenthal i'd imagine this cranks up a little pressure on the mets.
  8. 21 jump street was an early staple.
  9. rumors on radio out here are suggesting indians are going to send ben francisco for octavio dotel. also, cliff lee was demoted.
  10. sad. unlike a lot of these other young offenders (paris, britney, etc.) lohan actually has talent. too bad she's squandering it.
  11. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 05:07 PM) There's no doubt that Richmond is going to reopen his recruitment. He will not be going to UI and I think it would be in his best interest not to. who exactly is your team anyway? you seem to have a pretty good hard-on for illinois, but i'm curious who earns your support. anyhow, i disagree on richmond. i still think he'll end up at illinois (i do agree he will re-open at some point) and i still think weber will be the coach at that point. talk of him being fired at this point is just not reality. anyone who has followed the way guenther and his bosses do business know that weber will have a long leash. for him to get fired he's first going to have to post a losing season, and despite the negatives in recruiting i don't see that happening this year or next. that gets you to 2010. but in terms of what happened this week, i just have to shake my head at weber. i really get tired of the excuse-making that comes from weber's most ardent supporters because it is nothing but silly and bitter chatter from people who don't know a whole helluva lot. losing humphrey doesn't bother me because i was never impressed with his game. dunigan hurts, though, and shumpert definitely hurts. now i will acknowledge there are opportunities out there to still have a pretty strong class. i just have no faith it is actually going to happen.
  12. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) Good point. How many women at public beaches are in bikinis? either not enough or too many depending on what beach you are at.
  13. let me be the first to say it on the new thread... weber can't recruit.
  14. simply put, mark buerhle is the man.
  15. congrats to all. great to see the people involved with soxtalk getting recognized for their good work.
  16. reading a lot of these threads the past few days i've seen there seem to be varying opinions on how far this inevitable fire sale should reach. some are ready to deal anyone and everyone while others are focusing more on players who's contracts expire after this year. kw's remarks in the s-t today suggest he's more thinking of the latter approach, but what would you do?
  17. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) I really dont like JR's thinking of always hiring from within. For instance with firing the amateur scouting director and replacing him with someone else in the same department. You need a fresh look sometimes and that is something ths Sox lack a lot of. you know, i'll quibble with reinsdorf on a lot of stuff and he's by far from my favorite person. that said, his management philosophy has produced more titles in chicago than pretty much anyone in history. you have to give him credit on that. it's the same with the no-long-term-deal for pitchers thing. on its face i don't like it, but as the statistics cited a few pages ago show, it's been a pretty wise policy.
