Keppinger replaced after 2 hits and a walk . On base his last 7 AB's, 4 hits 3 walks, batting 500 14/28. -
Well, no K with runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs. Instead a DP.

QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 19, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) Talk all you want about the Dunn contract, but right now, early on this Danks contract is looking like biggest mistake this team has made in a long time. As long as we don't get any news on shoulder pain it's just a matter of Danks regaining velocity and command . Expecting great results at this point , 4 spring starts, after so much time off and surgery isn't realistic.
-
Keppinger just keeps on getting hits. I think we are going to be very pleased with him.
-
I swear the Sox have struck out a lot this spring with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) there's no way in which that's good news for Gordon... looks like someone's got an idea that he'll be more effective as a utility guy. That actually might be good news for Beckham. Gillaspie has no options so has to be waived or released (no idea which) if he doesn't make the 25 and Sanchez, being a Rule 5 draftee, must make the 25 or return to the Angels. If we carry one other infielder Sox are probably leaning to Gillaspie. That means we lose Sanchez and need a backup SS. Morel has options so he goes back to the minors leaving Gordon as backup SS. I'm not 100% certain what I said about losing Gillaspie or Sanchez but I'm sure someone knows. If what I said is true we're losing either Gillaspie or Sanchez. -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 05:24 PM) So first off, I completely botched the first set of numbers. I know you're all very disappointed in me. I am going to turn in my physics badge and potato gun immediately. I don't know where I went wrong -- probably trying to use my phone's calculator -- but the true answer to my first attempt was: Ball speed: 131.5 mph Height: 578 feet Not nearly as implausible. Given Q's parameters, that should shave ~1.5 seconds off the required hang-time if they're a sprinter-caliber runner...so that would give us: Ball speed: 115 mph Height: 443 feet Still not possible because a) air resistance selectively dissipates energy from the beginning of the ball's flight path and b) even Albert Pujols' best HR exit speed in 2009 was 119 mph, and you can't replicate that type of swing straight up. Anyway, the point is that Balta should rescind his hug and you should all be terribly ashamed of me. Can i have your potato gun ? I'm Irish.

Sox outfielders having problems with the high sky/sun . Viciedo earlier and Tekotte just now turning routine outs into extra bases.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) 3rd Just my opinion on where he should be in the rotation though 3rd is where he will probably end up to keep the rotation LRLRL. Could switch him with Quintana.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) Because I am on a nerd streak on this site lately: for a pretty fast player to round the bases on a ball hit straight up in the air before it hits the ground, he'd have to hit it ~6500 feet in the air and the ball would have to leave his bat at about 675 mph The runner could theoretically be maybe 1/2 way between 3rd and home when the ball lands and go the rest of the way home by the time a fielder picks it up and gets the throw home. What would that do to the numbers ? I'm just encouraging your nerd streak by asking.

QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) Danks got crushed today by the Angels. In my opinion, I wish he could rehab a bit more in AAA and let Santiago start in the rotation. His 3rd start . I didn't expect much . Had a rough go but looked like he threw all his pitches but command not sharp. Really not surprising at all. Looks like he's right on schedule to be Sox 4th or 5th starter.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 05:52 AM) Didn't someone once hit an infield home run way back in the day? Or is that just a legend? It was in the Babe Ruth movie starring John Goodman but really seems nearly impossible to hit a popup so high that one would be able to round the bases. But that is the stuff of legends which is the point.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 14, 2013 -> 01:08 AM) Is Gillaspie hitting himself into a starting 3B gig? No that's Keppinger's to lose but he certainly is ranked among the favorites to make the team otherwise we lose him. -
QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 13, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) Do you have 4G? I always wondered if 4G has enough bandwidth to stream stuff, play on-line vid games, etc. No I just use a pc and had no problems getting it last year until landlord screwed me over recently Only getting 2 out of 5 bars when used to get 5 of 5. Just as I was looking forward to the webcasts. Only getting a max of 5.5mbps and often goes to 2 and 1.

QUOTE (southside_hitman @ Mar 13, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) Pope blacked it out but it's back up now. today was a test to see if my wireless signal was strong enough to get it. I got it now but its stopping and starting so maybe not strong enough .

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) Nope. I think the bench is pretty much set- Gimenez, Sanchez, Wise, and Gillaspie. First callup between Tekotte and Danks? I'd go Tekotte. Mitchell having a really good spring. If his first few months at AAA go well. He could be next though we don't want him wasting away on the bench. OTOH he's a dynamic ballplayer. Sox trade RP Jeff Soptic for 3B Conor Gillaspie
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to The Ginger Kid's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Everyone take note: Gillaspie pronounced Gillespie from Conor's own mouth.
