No way. I can't find a single good reason to take him.Age injuries, roider, and if he plays at all this year he's back at the end of the year where he always chokes in the playoffs .

Kind of disappointed with our coverage of Soxfest 13 but southside sox does a tremendous job at covering all 3 days. Apparently the 1983 Sox in attendance were very funny. And the guy KW interrupted is a key contributor to SSS. Really good stuff . http://www.southsidesox.com/2013/1/29/3924...-soxfest-review

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) While I don't agree with his contention it's easy to see why he would project regression, what with the players we lost. I just think the opportunity for improvement is just as strong, and I'm surprised he doesn't look at that too. Maybe it's easier to predict irrelevance. Honestly, I really don't care. Easier to predict irrelevance when the Sox made him look foolish last year. He'll just keep predicting Sox suck until he gets it right. f*** Passan. I hope he's wrong again.

Addressing the Offensive Short Comings
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Lillian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's pretty apparent someone is addressing your "How to Slay the Tigers " thread by showing how your suggestions last year would've failed. Pretty sophomoric if you ask me and quite frankly , everyone makes suggestions that in hindsight look foolish and it discourages posting at all. I remember a big discussion a few years ago where the majority would've taken Derrick Lee over Adam LaRoche. No one pulls out that thread to embarrass all those who were wrong since Lee is out of baseball and LaRoche is still going strong. -
2012-2013 MLB off season tracker thread

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 15, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) Well the good thing is that the Tigers won't be signing Soriano, so they are closer-less. But I don't see why the Nats needed him. They have Storen and Clippard. Tigers probably will go with Rondon the Bartolo Colon clone. -
2012-2013 MLB off season tracker thread

Nats want to win the World Series. Cant have enough good pitchers. They paid a steep price not only salary but draft pick and draft slot money. Boras strikes again. -
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 07:21 AM) They added Larussa as well as more current players. LaRussa actually called the Sox and asked if he could attend Soxfest.

I really can't blame Hahn for not doing much. He shouldn't be giving up young talent. Look at how the free agents that require giving up a draft pick aren't getting offers and that's for just a draft pick not a guy like Viciedo who hit 25 HR's in his 1st full season. PK is near the end of the line. Other than that you got guys with near unmovable contracts or vital to the depth of the pitching staff. KW was always criticized for making deals too quick and not waiting for a better offer. If Hahn is waiting for the right deal so be it and if he stands pat , fine. We're all just junkies jonesing right now.

Pretty much how I feel which is why I suggested trading for minor league players in the thread I started about potential trade partners with the Sox .

QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 12:49 PM) He is #22 or better all time in HR's (T-#18 with 6 suspected juicers ahead of him), RBI's (#22), BB's (#10), OBP (#14), SLG (#21) and OPS (#14). He is #70 all time in Runs. He is #99 all time in Hits. He is #127 all time in AVG. Granted, saying your the 127th best at something doesn't seem like much, but he hit over .300 for his career which seems to be a benchmark stat. Two time MVP. Top 10 in MVP voting seven other times, with one 2nd place finish, two 3rd place finishes and one 4th place finish. Five time All-Star. Four Silver Slugger Awards. Yes, he should be a first ballot HOF'er. Then idiots get involved. DH most of his career. Played in the steroid era. No proof that he juiced, and may never have even been suspected, but no proof to the contrary either. Everyone from that era gets tainted to some degree. Had a reputation as a big baby, and not a friend to the media. A lot of the voters are media-biased. On the ballot with other first timers Maddux and Glavine. Can't have too many first timers in one induction. I think it is a 50/50 chance right now. Is he deserving? Yes. Will he? ??? If you're going to list the suspected juicers ahead of Frank in HR's you should also list the suspected or confirmed juicers who kept Frank from another MVP or kept him out of more All Star games, etc. Giambi, Palmeiro, McGwire all come to mind. Frank may have been hurt in accolades/awards more than any other player by juicers .

When and if Rick Hahn makes a trade or 2 ,which teams are best suited to trade with the Sox ? I don't usually like to play GM because my ignorance on other franchises sort of limits that. But plenty of you are very knowledgeable. I like the National's as a trade partner. Even as the team with the best record in 2012 they still need a back of the rotation pitcher and bullpen help. With Zimmerman at 3rd they are set there but 2 of their top 5 minor leaguer's are 3rd basemen Anthony Rendon and Matt Skole . Rendon is right handed hits for good average and has good plate discipline and also has a pretty good glove. Skole is their best power prospect, is LH ,and projects to be more of 1st baseman. Don't think either one of them should be considered untouchable. Skole is 23 and will be entering his 1st year above A+ level but was the Nats MiL pLayer of the Year. Rendon has had injury issues but is the Nats #1 prospect Unfortunately for the Sox the Nats will probably try to fill their holes by trading Michael Morse now that they have resigned Adam LaRoche. Alas, Morse is not the LH middle of the order bat they seek but he doe hit RHP decently. I have no idea what it would take for the Sox to pry away Rendon or Skole but we need some legit minor league prospects badly at those positions. Any few of Floyd, Santiago, Quintana, Thornton, Veal, Axelrod, Jones, Reed, Castro, Rienzo could fill the Nats pitching holes and even take some salary off the Sox books. Maybe the Sox could get the LH bat they seek in a 3 way trade which I am not going to try to tackle.

What type of team does Hahn want ?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) 1. I don't think Viciedo is as valuable as Sox fans think. 2. I would like to see Dunn gone - but you still have to replace him. 3. Rios is probably your most valuable OF. Only trade him if a deal is too good to be true. Tell me what so impressive with De Aza and Wise that you would get rid of Rios? Wite's answered all that as well as I could've but .. 1. Notice I didn't say valuable I said movable. Young ,cheap. locked up, power, more outfield assists then any Sox LF since the 1960's, mashes LH's but is low OBP guy and we have way too many of those types. 2.Gardner, Murphy ,Gordon, Choo and McCutchen all have decent to good OBP's and all are LH and all still relatively cheap and all under 30 yrs. old. That's the kind of player I'd want or 2 like that who's combined salaries still do not equal 1 yr of Dunn or Rios. 3. I will go a step further and say Rios was the best position player the Sox had, but as Wite said he hasn't put together good back to back seasons in a while. Better to sell high , shed the salary and get a piece or 2. Has nothing at all to do with De Aza and Wise being impressive, it's all about freeing up salary to get some pieces to build a better team . -
What type of team does Hahn want ?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'll try to take a stab at who I think the Sox may trade . I have always like Viciedo. He has tremendous upside and is relatively cheap. He's the one position player I'd like to see the Sox keep. He'll be a monster if he can learn to hit righties. He's probably the most movable piece the Sox have. Maybe we could get a similar player who just hits LH for him. Viciedo to FL sounds like a natural fit with the big Cuban population there and with Giancarlo Stanton ( though he's also RH) unhappy they could be the main pieces in a deal. I'd love it if Dunn could be moved though the return would depend on how much salary the Sox eat. Unfortunately some off the guys I like for the Sox are in their division like Alex Gordon and Sin Soo Choo. Brett Gardner and David Murphy, wouldn't be bad adds. Andrew McCuthchen fits the bill as an impact LH bat though most likely unattainable Hahn should look for takers on Rios and Konerko also though PK has 10 and 5 rights I believe. If Sox falter trade deadline should see a lot of action . -
So far Hahn has resigned Peavy, signed Keppinger to a 3 year contract and picked up Angel Sanchez in the Rule V. Keeping Peavy gives the Sox depth in the rotation and strength for possible trades . Keppinger and Sanchez fill holes the Sox had at 3rd and utility infielder and both are high contact type hitters. Is there a clear indication of which direction Hahn wants to take the team ? It seem like he wants a LH impact bat and higher OBP types. Is it possible for Hahn to make multiple moves, trade starters ,shed salary, get more prospects and have a competitive team in the next few months ? Besides Floyd and Thornton what Sox are most likely to get traded ?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 07:25 AM) I agree that he wasn't worth $12 million and I'm glad the Sox didn't bring him back at that price. But to say he was a lousy hitter because he had a poor September is entirely short-sighted. He hit 15 homers with the Sox, drew quite a few walks, and brought home quite a few runs. He wasn't a good hitter, but he was far from lousy. And considering what the Sox had been running with at 3B prior to Youkilis arriving, his name could have been anything and people would have been happy about it. I don't think anyone here was unhappy with what Youkilis brought to the table for the White Sox, and if they are, they need a hard dose of reality. This is from the comments section of the Keppinger story on Southside Sox. While the debate rages on regarding 3B. Youk split time between two of the best hitters parks in all of baseball last season. In the 240+ plate appearances he had that did not take place at Fenway or the Cell, he hit .158/.248/.247. Those are the actual numbers!

I predict we will all be pleasantly surprised with Kep. He'll hit behind runners ,sacrifice, hit for a decent average and hit close to 10 HR's and play decent D. He was certainly the best choice out there which doesn't say much for what was out there. In the 2001 College World Series, he hit a two-run home run off Mark Prior. A 3 year deal was a must to outbid the other teams involved. His relationship with Buddy Bell while in KC helped. Whoever signs Youk will be disappointed. I also expect Hahn to be in on a blockbuster 3 way deal.

I really didn't want to say anything in this thread but my silence says nothing to anyone but me. Just another pathetic thread to keep Guillen in everyone's minds and we all bit on it.

Worst collapse in franchise history?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 08:32 PM) If it is, it is simply because we haven't had very many division leads. Losing a lead that was hardly larger than 3 games at any point in time isn't that epic of a collapse, especially given how close we were to .500 the entire time We reached a season high 16 over at one point and more recently the 5 game winning streak put us at 15 over. Since then its been bad base running, bad hitting, bad fundamentals. All the good things we did to stay in 1st so long reversed and hit us like Wile E. Coyote being crushed by an Acme safe. -

Baseball is a strange game. Most of us thought IF we failed it would be because of worn out pitchers but it was the hitters who actually blew it. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) Maybe the Cleveland broadcast had conclusive evidence, but the Sox one didn't. Even on the last replay they showed, Stone said it "looks like he touched the plate before the tag." Which it does. But that wasn't indisputable at all. Yes it was and those who watched it before I responded thought so too. And on the Sox broadcast. -
