QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) Why did they do this? Just to get out of suits and lighten the mood for the road trip.

Is Hawk one of the all time greats?
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:49 AM) Talk about absolutes........... Announcers are known for their home run calls. Hawk's known for that as well as DP calls, "should be........rack 'em up", and many more. I was at my friends house watching the game one time and his wife had no idea how we knew exactly what he would say a lot of the time. Maybe some don't like it but I love to say he gone on a strikeout. Or can of corn, or right size, wrong shape, or get foul...it will, thank you very much. To me, its like being with a fan at a game. As I've said, his ranting about umpires does get old after a while, but the other stuff will never get old to me. I don't mind a Yaz or Catfish story. He loves the White Sox, and knows the game. I personally couldn't ask for more in the booth. Jones came in to finish the game tonight and I called him Vulture right before Hawk did. -

QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) It wouldnt matter much. These guys saying that if beckham doesnt play we are in trouble is bulls***. The guy sucks. No one can do worse offensively than that bum. No one. He is a bust. Bench his sorry ass. Maybe that will wake him up. I just say it with less drama than you, but I don't have money riding on them. Here's a hint bet the Sox at home now don't bet them on the road. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 06:32 PM) He's going to play his regulars as much as possible. If we are hoping Olmedo plays more, the Sox are in a lot of trouble. Doubt it would matter much .Olmedo looks like a good fielder and can get just as many hits as Beckham , maybe not the occasional long ball though. -

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 05:13 PM) ah, the never ending forum battle between optimists and pessimists. How I grow weary of it. I guess I'm in the realist camp leaning on optimism. I just see us playing bad on the road and good at home lately which is reversal of how we started the season. Just want the Sox to get it all together . -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 09:41 PM) Yeah, look at the Angels. They hit it huge with both Trout and Trumbo in two consecutive years, they have Pujols, Kendrys Morales finally back, Kendrick, Hunter, on paper, they should have a great rotation or at least one of the better ones (Weaver, Haren, Greinke, Santana, etc.)...and they're STILL probably going to miss the playoffs with that payroll. Just goes to show the importance of a bullpen as well (see Marlins, Miami for example #2)...and how Mike Napoli emerging and becoming a force with the Rangers really changed the balance of division offensive power temporarily. I forgot to add in the injury factor also. For a team to win it all every phase of a team game has to contribute Offense defense start and relieve pitching . One key phase not holding up their end can lead to disaster.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) Minus the lockdown bullpens of 2005 and first half 2008 when you just expected every single one run lead or tie game to end up in the Sox victory column if you got to the 7th or beyond... We as Sox fans often forget comebacks are part of being a winning team . A winner always has its share of comebacks and exciting victories. We're too used to being a .500 or worse team . That's changed some under KW's reign but still is not an easy task to have good teams year after year unless you have a big budget or get incredibly lucky year after year in the draft.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) I could listen to Journey every so often- mostly for the cheese factor prior to 2005, but my copy of their Greatest Hits cd hasn't been within 10 ft of a cd player since. Only thing I could compare it to is having enough at a party to the point where you begin choking down warm saliva and looking for a bathroom, but finding a warm 24 oz can of Steel Reserve and polishing it off instead. It doesn't help that there have been like 30 teams since all over sports that have gone with Journey for seasons that end with the team getting bounced in the first round. I'm right with you there. I was in my late teens during the Journey era and sure they had plenty of air time but they were never close to being a band I liked a lot. "Don''t Stop Believin" makes a fine slogan but associating the song with the 2005 Sox never quite clicked with me.

QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) Why its having too many lefties a problem? You can have 4 righties and that is fine. Mainly because many 70% (that's a guess) of hitters are right handed and righties traditionally hit lefties better . So having too many lefty starters is worse than having too many righty starters just because of the lefty/righty hitting advantage. The only advantage you have with so many lefty starters is that some of the stronger teams have very good LH hitters but overall against all teams there's a disadvantage. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 06:17 PM) Feels very 2005ish. We have to improve our play on the road . These next 7 against the Orioles and the Tigers are huge .

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) I like that we're a very exciting team this year. Comeback victories, walk offs, multi home run games almost every day...etc. wasn't like this last year All 3 wins over Seattle were one run victories aka nail biters .
-
Of the Sox 70 victories 36 came when the other team was ahead aka comeback victories.
-
We got a bench . Big contributions from Wise and Flower's lately. Even Olmedo pitching in with great D and 2 hits if the last one counts.
-
Thank you Mother Nature ! Thank You umps for the delay before the Flowers bomb ! August showers bring Flower's power ! !

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 07:20 AM) I have all 12 postseason games on VHS tapes that I still need to convert to DVDs. But I have the boxed set and the other two discs that were released too. I bought a DVD recorder just prior to the WS in anticipation of recording some good stuff. I've barely used it since then . -
